Episode 40: The Fracture
The moment Kade and Lena were pulled into the rift, the world around them shattered into a thousand pieces. It felt as though they were falling through the very essence of reality itself—through cracks in the fabric of existence. The vortex twisted and spun, pulling them in all directions at once, like they were caught in the grip of an unseen force. Time itself seemed to fold and warp as they were ripped through endless corridors of light and shadow.
For a brief moment, Kade’s mind screamed in agony as the very sensation of falling became unbearable. His body was weightless, suspended in the nothingness. The sense of distance between them and everything they knew grew immeasurable. But just as quickly, everything stilled.
The ground beneath them solidified, the rift closing behind them with a thunderous sound that seemed to shake the universe itself. Kade blinked, his eyes adjusting to the sudden change in atmosphere.
They were no longer in the twisted dimension from which they’d escaped. No, this place was worse—far worse.
The sky overhead was an unsettling shade of blood red, and the landscape stretched out before them like a barren wasteland. Jagged cliffs and rocky spires rose from the ground, casting long, twisted shadows that seemed to stretch endlessly. In the distance, the silhouettes of ruined cities loomed, their broken structures abandoned, silent, and decaying. The air was thick with the scent of ozone and the sharp tang of something decayed, something ancient.
Kade’s breath hitched as the full weight of their situation hit him. “This isn’t real. This can’t be…”
But Lena was already moving, her hand on his arm, pulling him along. Her face was pale, her eyes wide with fear, but there was determination in her movements. She wasn’t stopping.
“We can’t stay here,” she muttered, her voice barely above a whisper. “We need to find out what this place is—and fast.”
Kade nodded, glancing around. The emptiness of the place was suffocating, and the silence was deafening. There was no sign of life, not even the faintest sound of wind. It felt like they had fallen into a space beyond time, a dimension in which everything that once existed had crumbled into nothingness.

As they walked, the ground beneath them seemed to hum with a strange energy, almost as if the very air itself was alive with some sort of power. Kade could feel it, deep in his bones—the faint pulse of something ancient, something vast.
A faint rumble broke the silence. Kade’s instincts flared, and he immediately drew his weapon, his eyes scanning the desolate landscape. The rumble grew louder, closer, as though something massive was approaching.
“Stay close,” Kade ordered, his voice steady but tense.
Lena nodded, moving closer to him, her eyes darting around nervously. Then, without warning, something massive erupted from the ground—an enormous, insectoid creature, its exoskeleton glistening with a black sheen that reflected the blood-red sky. Its eyes were glowing with an unnatural light, and its mandibles clicked as it screeched, a sound that sent a chill down Kade’s spine.
The creature was faster than Kade expected. It lunged at them, its jagged claws slicing through the air. Kade barely had time to react, shoving Lena out of the way as the creature’s claws missed him by inches.
But it wasn’t finished.
The creature hissed, its body shifting and twisting unnaturally. It was adapting, evolving faster than Kade could track. Its jaws snapped open wide, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth. Kade raised his gun, but it was useless—the creature was too fast, its movements too erratic.
Then, out of nowhere, Lena stepped forward, her eyes flashing with an intensity that Kade hadn’t seen before. She reached into her bag, pulling out a device that pulsed with strange energy. The creature hesitated for a moment, its glowing eyes narrowing.
“Get back!” Kade shouted, realizing too late what she was about to do.
Lena slammed her hand down on the device. A burst of energy erupted from it, blasting outward in a wave that struck the creature head-on. The creature screeched in pain as the energy coursed through its body, destabilizing its structure. It writhed, its exoskeleton cracking and splintering as it tried to escape the blast.
But it was too late.
With a final, guttural roar, the creature collapsed into a heap of twitching limbs and shattered armor. The ground around it cracked, and the energy from the device continued to pulse, destabilizing the surrounding area.
Kade rushed to Lena’s side, his breath coming in ragged gasps. “What the hell was that?” he asked, his voice shaking.
Lena looked down at the device, her hands still trembling from the force of the blast. “It’s an old prototype—something I found in the archives. A disruptor. It’s meant to break down matter at the molecular level. But I didn’t think it would work on something like that.”
Kade’s heart pounded in his chest. The device had saved them, but it was clear this place was filled with dangers they didn’t fully understand. They weren’t just in a fractured dimension—they were in a world that defied everything they knew.
“What is this place?” Lena whispered, her voice barely audible. “How did we get here?”
Kade shook his head. “I don’t know, but it feels like we’re in the heart of something—something old, something powerful. And I think… I think we’ve just woken it up.”
The ground trembled again, this time more violently. A low, rumbling growl reverberated through the earth. From the shadows of the broken city in the distance, another figure emerged.
Kade’s eyes widened. This one was even larger than the first—a hulking, armored beast, its movements slow and deliberate, like a predator that had just spotted its prey. Its eyes glowed like embers in the dark, and it let out a roar that shook the very air.
“Run,” Kade growled, his hand already reaching for the disruptor in Lena’s bag. But this time, there was no time to think.
The ground cracked beneath them, and the beast charged.
