  "Okay!" He replied, but he said, "We're gd to have you back" before finally going, leaving me feeling a bit embarrassed.

  "We were all so worried about you, Daphne," Phildina said with a smile as she put on her nightgown. I mirrored her and started dressing up quickly to go meet up with the others.

  "You're not going out like that, right?" I asked.

  "Of course not!" She said, sounding a bit offended.

  "Sorry, that was stupid of me to ask." I apologized.

What are they all looking at? I turned to look and regretted it instantly.

  "Hueelp!" I threw up on the spot at a sight so horrendously disfigured it inspired an instinctual revulsion. W-w-what happened to them? Their faces were mangled up to the point that I couldn't distinguish between their features. I couldn't tell their noses apart from their mouths. Their eyes were either missing or crushed, and their bodies were beaten into an irrecognizable, bloody pulp with third-degree burns here and there.

  "How terrible," One of the soldiers muttered, and Kimmel, who had been frowning at the scene with clenched fists, walked up to me and handed me a letter.

  "W-what is this?" I asked.

  "A raven delivered it to me this morning," He answered, and that was when it dawned on me. A reassignment notice! They'd probably appoint new commanders and soldiers to man the Fort, but now that we were without commanders, they chose to reassign us. I quickly collected myself and opened it to read what was written inside.
