Hey ya’ll… I don’t enjoy posting this, and I don’t enjoy being dramatic, but unfortunately, this title isn’t an exaggeration. System Reset is in a bit of serious trouble and I’d like to request some help.

  To get straight into it, System Reset’s relaunch and Rising Stars run was hindered by circumstances completely outside of the story’s control. Success on Royalroad hinges heavily on having a successful Rising Stars run, since it gives the most visibility to new fictions.

  But unfortunately, the Rising Stars Algorithm was recently changed and those changes completely wrecked System Reset’s potential for building an audience.

  Royalroad frowns on speculation in regards to their algorithm, so I won’t go into what those changes are, but I would like to show you some of System Reset’s follower numbers in accordance to our story’s Rising Stars rank so that nobody thinks I’m talking out of my ass here:

  Day 1: RS: 960 (+700 ish) Rank 23 < self shout from old SR fic

  Day 2 RS: 1110 (+150) Rank 12

  Day 3 RS: 1268 (+158) Rank 8

  Day 4 RS: 1524 (+256) Rank 3

  Day 5 RS: 1842 (+318) Rank 1

  Day 6 RS: 2131 (+289) Rank 1

  Day 7 RS: 2367 (+236) Rank 2

  Day 8 RS: 2519 (+152) Rank 5

  This trajectory is extremely abnormal. We shot up to the top of Rising Stars very fast, and we dropped very fast, despite our momentum having a ton of gas in the tank. And I hope this also exemplifies just how impactful your ranking is on the amount of new followers who find your story each day.

  Most successful Rising Star runs can last up to 15 or so days on front page, but even though System Reset was on a trajectory to stay at the #1 spot for a week or more, we dropped after 2 days and we’re about to drop off the list after just 8 DAYS from when we reached the front page. As I’ve said, this is very, very weird.

  Unfortunately, a few fics always fall victim to this type of thing after algorithm changes as authors re-figure out what not to do when launching. This obviously sucks, and Kraze and I have been heartbroken over it, but there’s nothing we can really do to help matters.

  There is however, something you guys can do.

  I hate to make a big deal over this, but right now the only chance System Reset has of gaining more visibility is through gaining more ratings. So for everyone still following and enjoying the story who wants to help it grow, I’d deeply appreciate it if you considered leaving a rating or review. Or if you’re really liking System Reset, and know others who might like it too, I’d appreciate it even more if you shared your love for the story. Word of mouth is another thing that can do a ton for discovery.

  We’re close to three-thousand followers now, and I’m not saying that’s something to sniff at—I’m thankful for each one of you guys, re-readers and new readers both. But as someone who's trying to make a living from this, and who had hopes of recovering from my hiatus after pouring a year of effort into the story, 3,000 followers is a far cry from the 6,500 SR had at its peak and this deeply hurts my bottom line.

  And… well, my mental health tbh, but I’m accepting things for how they are now.

  System Reset won’t be stopping. This is far from ideal, but I’m well set up to continue serialization come hell or high water, and I’m gonna be releasing chapter 22 and starting to add to my patreon soon as I wrap up edits and get back on track.
