101 - Bus Takeover

The wind howled, but the bus maintained a steady speed on the highway.

Unlike other vehicles struggling against the gusts, the bus was completely unaffected, holding its course despite the strong winds.

  Inside the bus.

Kevin opened his system interface and traded away another set of Wooden Spear, Wooden Bucket, and Toilet Paper – this time as a bundle. Then, he transferred the earned Escape Coins to Tiffany.

He had lost count of how many times he'd sold this package.

With everyone confined to the bus due to the fierce winds, bathroom breaks became a problem, and Kevin saw an opportunity.

The wooden bucket was nothing more than a cheap and simple makeshift toilet. With teams stuck on the bus, it became a necessity.

After all, nature calls, and even in a vehicle, people needed something to contain the mess. A wooden bucket was perfect.

But selling just the bucket didn't earn much, and raising the price too high would deter buyers. So, Kevin decided to bundle it with a wooden spear and toilet paper, selling the whole package for 25 Escape Coins.

Nobody would pay a premium for a low-end item like a bucket, but bundled with the spear and paper, it was like buying an extra spear.

This allowed Kevin to move a good number of his less-popular wooden spears.

Even the reluctant buyers had to fork over the 25 Escape Coins for the bundle. No one could afford the consequences of messing up the bus.

  This attracted attention to Kevin.

His role on the bus couldn't be hidden, and others quickly found out that he was just a salesman hired by a car owner.

That was when people became uninterested in Kevin.

They couldn't touch him, and even if they caught him, they wouldn't gain anything.

And what could they do if they found out who was behind Kevin?

Threaten them to hand over their Escape Coins?

So, those who knew about Kevin gave up on any funny ideas.

Everyone had their ways to earn Escape Coins on the group chat app. Some owners were gathering large amounts of water, which made water very cheap now.

There were also many people selling various other items.

For example, one owner found a Blueprints for cold-weather clothing that could be used 200 times. He sold them, making thousands of Escape Coins as the temperature dropped at night.

Other miscellaneous blueprints could be used dozens, even hundreds, of times.

So, Kevin selling a bunch of spears and buckets, while strange, wasn't that surprising.

That's why no one connected Kevin to Chloe, who was selling wooden spears before.

Plus, all trades were private. Nobody except the seller knew the actual sales figures, so it didn't trigger their greed.

"Tiffany, do you still have any 1-Star Boots? I want to buy a pair to increase my strength for self-defense," Kevin asked Tiffany.

He remembered seeing Tiffany selling them two days ago on the group chat app.

Tiffany replied quickly, "288 Escape Coins a pair."

Kevin's eyes lit up at Tiffany’s simple reply.

Her reply meant that she still had boots to sell.

He had helped Tiffany earn a lot of Escape Coins these past two days, and she had given him over three hundred Escape Coins as his cut. That was more than enough to buy a pair of boots.

Kevin didn't hesitate to buy a pair of 1-Star Boots from Tiffany immediately.

Kevin's horizons and ambitions had expanded these past few days, and he was determined to take over the bus.

It was just that his strength was insufficient, so he hadn't acted yet. He even failed to grab a Skills Dungeon Token yesterday.

Now that he had the 1-Star Boots, Kevin was ready to take control of this bus.

Just as Kevin traded for the boots, a beam of white light descended inside the bus, drawing everyone's attention.

"A chest! A chest is here!" a woman exclaimed excitedly.

Yesterday, seven or eight chests appeared on this bus. Besides the first silver chest with the Token, the other chests had all contained food.

This gave hope to the people on the bus who had been hungry for days.

Immediately, over twenty people on the bus stood up, eyes burning as they watched the beam of white light dissipate, revealing a Bronze Chest.

  "Grab the chest!"

Someone shouted, and chaos instantly erupted on the bus.

Over twenty people were scrambling for the chest. One group of seven or eight men was particularly organized and powerful.

They charged towards the chest together, and nobody could stop them.

A woman screamed in despair and tried to block them but was slapped to the ground.

A few lone men tried to sneakily steal the chest but were quickly discovered and beaten away.

In just a few minutes, the seven or eight men gathered around the chest, beating back anyone who dared approach, thus claiming ownership of the chest.

One of them, a middle-aged man with obvious muscles and dark skin, likely from hard labor, looked at everyone and grinned. "Everyone, this chest is ours, right?"

Some people were unhappy, but they couldn't do anything about it.

They had considered teaming up to deal with the seven or eight men, but the difference in strength was too great. They would never win.

Just then, a voice rang out.

  "I object."

It was Kevin, who had just put on his 1-Star Boots, stepping out from the crowd.

The middle-aged man frowned when he saw Kevin and sneered, "What? Mr. Kevin is after the little bit of food in the chest, too?"

People on the bus knew that Kevin had been selling a lot of things.

Although they envied him, they didn't want to provoke the car owner behind him. That's why they hadn't caused Kevin any trouble.

Kevin looked at everyone solemnly and said, "Everyone, are you going to keep fighting like this for every chest that appears? If you trust me, let's unite, and I guarantee everyone will get a share of the food."

Everyone understood Kevin's meaning. He wanted to take over this bus.

Kevin had already secretly won over a few people, who now spoke up to support him in the crowd.

"I trust Kevin. He has a car owner backing him. He won't skimp on our share of the food."

"That's right. At least seven or eight chests will appear on the bus today. There will definitely be enough food for everyone."

"I don't want to starve. If Kevin can give me a share of the food, I'm willing to listen to him."

Everyone on the bus except for the seven or eight men guarding the chest supported Kevin.

Whoever could guarantee everyone's food would get their support.

The middle-aged man's face turned ugly. Kevin's actions were damaging their interests.

As the saying goes, cutting off someone's livelihood is like killing their parents. The middle-aged man suddenly pulled out a dagger from his waist and lunged at Kevin amid everyone's shocked gazes.
