Introduction

  Part 1 Introductions

  Lilah

“Please choose your starting class,” a voice said. The monotone voice echoed throughout the void.

  “Where am I?” Lilah asked.

“Your opinions are as follows: warrior, mage, or archer. Each class is only a starting point and can be completely customized to better suit you style.”

“Okay…” Lilah said “Where are we.”

“You are in the opening void.”

  “I guess warrior,” Lilah said.

“Welcome to Leoland,” the voice said.

Lilah’s eyes shot open. A cool breeze danced across her face while grass brushed against her skin. “Where am I,” Lilah thought to herself. Standing up, her jaw dropped at the landscape. Vast rolling hills of green grass. A semi translucent blue screen popped up in Lilah's face

“Please assign your stats,” the screen prompted. “Preassigned or custom,” it asked.

“What is the difference,” Lilah asked.

“Preassigned will set your class stats now at the start and each level moving forward.” “While custom will allow you to assign all stats for a more tailor made experience. You'll be able to reset these points at each level but at a cost.”

  “What's the cost?”

“Cost is dependent on the level the higher the level the greater the cost.”

“I see…,” Lilah thought for a moment, “will I be able to change from custom to preassigned or vice versa?”

  “No,” the message wrote.

“Shit what class did I choose,” Lilah thought

“Since no starting class was selected you will be given 50 points to place in five categories and will be given all starting weapons and basic skills,” the message read. As if answering her thoughts.

  “Custom then I guess.”

  “Please confirm, Y/N”

Lilah mentally confirming her choice. The screen shifted to a new screen. At the top there were four tabs left to right they read: titles, stats, skills, and inventory. The three of the tabs were greyed out rendering them unselectable, only the stats tab was selectable so with a mental push she opened the Stats tab.

  Strength 0

  Dexterity 0

  Vitality 0

  Mana 0

  Luck 0

  50 points remaining

“Okay…,” Lilah thought she focused on the first attribute

Strength; governs your overall power in physical strength, toughness and carrying capacity. “Oh okay, let's check the rest.”

Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.

Dexterity; governs your movement speed and ability to move in all armor types.

Vitality; provides health points and health regeneration

Mana; provides mana points and mana regeneration

Luck; governs your luck in all things. “Rather vague.”

“Well I guess 10 in all stats for now and we'll see what happens next,” she said.

The next tab in the menu opened up Skills

Three sub skill tabs were highlighted archer, mage and warrior, and in each tab contained skills related to each profession. She was presented with three skill points and 6 skill choices.

Archer: basic archery (gives knowledge on how to use a bow and arrows as well as a basic tracking skill).

Warrior: basic weapon proficiency (gives knowledge on how to use all weapon types).

Mage gave four choices: basic lightning bolt (summon a bolt of lightning shocking your opponent). Basic fire bolt (summon a bolt of fire burning your opponent). Basic frost bolt (summon a bolt of frost chilling your opponent), and magic bolt (summon a bolt of pure mana piercing your opponent).

I'll start with both the one point into the archer and warrior skill and I don't know what kind of magic I guess I can always choose later, she thought. The next tab opened up the inventory tab. She switched tabs checking her inventory. She saw herself for the first time since waking up in the inventory window. She was wearing a plain white tunic and loose fitting white cloth pants and some simple leather boots. “Hum when did I change,” she thought. She also saw some slots were empty; the head, belt, gloves, a necklace, and two ring slots. Looking down at the lower section of the page she had some pieces of equipment as another message popped up.

“Select your starting equipment,” the message read, “each piece of equipment in your inventory is from the three starting classes.”

“Okay,” she thought. Switching back to the inventory tab, she looked over the items. Three pairs of boots, two pairs of pants, and three tops, and a couple of hats. She decided to start with the boots. Looking deeply at each pair a small window popped up with information on the first pair. Simple shoes, the top of the window read, the blue tinted more like shoes than boots seemed to be more a soft velvet material like a dancers shoe. Next to the images read the stats, 2 armor, 1lb, 30/30 durability, and at the bottom an empty place below the description. The second pair of boots were called leather boots; they closely resembled combat boots. Their stats were 4 armor, three pounds, 40/40 durability and a blank description. The final pair were light greves, 8 armor, seven pounds, 60/60 durability no description.

“Okay so there's some kind of weight system. I wonder if it actually makes a difference,” she thought. “Let's go with the shoes, I'm not used to wearing heavy footwear. After moving them to her equipment slot the shoes appeared on her feet. The soft shoes melded perfectly to her feet. Wiggling her toes she smiles lightly notings for the first time tears rolling down her cheeks. “I don't understand this at all,” she thought, closing all the windows slinking into the grass, pulling her knees into her chest. Her eyes drew closed and she slept.

Lilah finally opened her eyes to see the sun setting in the horizon. The red, orange, and purple hues of the skyline dazzled and danced on the horizon. The vibrant green grass now looks a rusty yellow. The system pinged in her head noting she had a new notification. Reluctantly she opened her notification window.

  Finish selecting your starting equipment.

“Why… I don't understand,” she said. No new message appeared. “Why won't you tell me what's going on?” She settled down after taking a few deep breaths, she opened her inventory menu. She looked at the leg equipment options, noting there were only two options this time.

Light pants 4 armor, one pound, 60/60 durability, no description. They read as pants but they looked more like a pair of spandex. The other pair were called light cuisses; they looked to be the same style pants with a thin metal plate wrapped around the thighs. 10 armor, two pounds, 80/80 durability. “Hum I guess I'll go with these,” she thought. She moved the leggings over the empty equipment slot and again magically they appeared on her perfectly fitting. She could feel the added weight. Moving on she looked at the belts. The three options were: cloth sash armor 1, weight zero, 10/10 durability; leather belt 2 armor, weight two pounds, 12/12 durability and light steel belt armor 3, weight three pounds, durability 15/15. “I think I'll go with the heavy belt to match the pants.” She drug the light steel belt over the empty slot

Next three body armors, the first read blue apprentice robes (with hood). Armor 4, weight three pounds, durability 80/80 description plus 30 to mana and 50 percent mana regeneration. This was the first item with any kind of description she has seen. She quickly checked the other armors. Light quilted armor; armor ten, weight four pounds, durability 85/85 no description. Crude plate armor; armor 20, weight eight pounds, no description. She didn't think it was a hard choice but when she went to equip the robes her leg armor unequipped, and the slot was grayed out.

“Okay so I guess the robes can't be combined with them. I guess I'll go with the quilted armor then.”

Next she checked the weapons. There were more options; short sword, bow, basic wand, small wooden shield and a quiver of arrows. Her hands began trembling as a cold chill washed over her. The feeling of complete horror overwhelmed her once again. “I've never held a weapon before, I…I… don't know if I can do this.” She inhaled sharply trying to calm herself down. “I might not have a choice here though,” she finally told herself. I'll equip the sword and shield. The sword appeared sheathed on her belt and the shield on her right forearm. Looking over the inventory page again she noticed a secondary weapon equipment slot.

“Okay, I'm assuming I can quick swap weapons?” In the second slot she placed the staff. The shield moved to her back and the staff appeared in her hands. With all of the equipment in her inventory gone through she looked at the still open equipable slots, gloves, helmet, two ring on each hand, a necklace. “I guess these are something to find later.”

New message. Do you wish to continue Y/N?

  “Yes,” she said

Please confirm choice this selection will be final Y/N?

She took a second to answer but ultimately decided to go with it. “Yes.” The unused equipment disappeared from her inventory. A new tab opened “Quest.” She gave the mental nudge selecting the new tab.

  Completed quests; introduction

New Quests; find the town of Leo.

  Mark

The putrid scent of burnt corpses permeated throughout the town of Leo. Mark windst watching the bodies of the township being flung into the inferno blazing in the town’s square.

  “What,” Mark said.

“Sir…sir… it's…something strange is going on in the forest the mana is gathering…in mass,” the small imp like creature said.

  “Good,” Mark said.

  “Sir…,”

Mark interceded “We are done here.”

The imp nodded running to gather the others.

“So they have called another pawn,” Mark said. He looked up that the dimming sunlight remembering how long had it been since he was summoned here.
