Chapter 2: Scent

I walked down the beaten path to the town as I have done thousands of times before. I took in a scenery I have seen all my life, houses and trees on both sides of the road, cars going to and fro as people went to work and school like usual. Cafes and shops owners opening their stores for the ‘early offerings of the people’. Like usual.

  *Sigh*

‘This place is so boring, nothing ever happens here, even with a family of literal fucking vampires living here.’ I sighed internally once more

“Morning Chrissy.” I heard a voice say behind me and I instantly knew who it belonged to

“Good morning Sasha.” I said as I turned around, greeting the tall brown haired, nerdy girl walking towards me with my other human friend, Jayce. Sasha Brightchild was a around the same height as me with short brown hair, blue eyes, wide hips, big breasts and wore red glasses. She was wearing blue jeans, baggy red sweater that hid all her goodies beneath and a pair of black cowboy boots. Jayce Wildchild was tall, light brown skin, slightly muscular and a little bit handsome I guess. He wore a white tee-shirt and a grey sweat pants along with a pair of sneakers. I met the two of them when I was around five years old, a little bit after my family moved here from France. I was too young to remember my time there, but I bet it was nowhere near as boring as Mystique Falls. They were nice, and after some insistence from my mom, I started hanging out with them and we became friends. Of course, they didn’t know anything about my family being vampires. And I had no intention of telling them, because if I did, my family would insist on inviting them to dinner. And I wouldn’t want that.

“What, no greetings for me?” Jayce said with a smile and I rolled my eyes.

  “Good morning Jayce.” I said

“Good Morning Annastassia.” Jayce said in a teasing manner and I rolled my eyes once more.

“How was your summer Chrissy?” Sasha asked.

“Ugh, you know how my summer went, we practically spent all of it together. I really need to get out of this town.” I said, a little bit annoyed

“Why this place is great, there are trees , shops, a movie theater and the great mystical falls of Mystique Falls, plus, I’m here. What more could you want?” Jayce said, it was no mystery to me that Jayce liked me, at first I thought it was cute, like a puppy, but now it was getting kinda annoying.

“More, I want adventure, to go shopping for more than basic clothes, I want to drive a Lamborghini, visit expensive hotels and resorts. There are tons of things I want to do.” I said, and Jayce blinked innocently. This moron.

“You are in the last year of high school and you are an adult now. Just choose a university in a big city, I’m sure your family could afford it.” Sasha shrugged

“I already tried that, but they said they wanted to send me to some college I’ve never heard of in Mexico. It’s almost like they don’t want me to live my life.” And I have a very, very long life ahead of me

“Then I guess you’re stuck here with us.” Jayce said with a smile.

“Oh we’re here.” Sasha said and indeed, they have arrived at Mystique Falls high. It was a 300 year old school, but despite its old age, it looked relatively new, thanks the generous donations of wealthy past students. The school was relatively large, occupying around half a square kilometer of land and owning around a square kilometer of the forest surrounding the school. The school’s interior was like any other school, with five classes for each year group, two stories, a huge library and an even bigger cafeteria. The school was built on it’s old foundation, and it’s rumoured that a maze of passageways run under the entire school. Although I don’t care much about such things.

“Oh yeah, have you guys heard? We are getting a new student this year, apparently he’s from New York.” Sasha said

“Seriously, why would anyone leave a city like New York to live in this backwards town.” I laughed.

“The same reason someone would leave France to live in a backwards town like this.” Sasha retorted

“Touche.”I walked through the halls I have seen a million times and saw the same faces I’ve seen a million times, but this time, something was different.

  ‘What is that…it smells so…delicious.’ I thought
