Chapter 41

Radiant beams of light illuminated a room housing a pair of lovers whose arms remained interlocked in a tight embrace, lying in rest from their passionate lovemaking that stretched out throughout the wee hours of the day. Upon noticing the time, he gently lifted his arm to rest it on the other side before caressing his lover’s face endearingly.

Unknown to him, his actions contradicted his feelings for the vessel sleeping beside him. Emotions such as love had become foreign to him as the whispers from the North grew progressively stronger.

  “...Neptune?”

A voice called out to him like a child, longing for his affection, which he knew to give by carefully adjusting his facial expressions.

  “Yes, my love.”

  “It’s time, isn’t it? You’re needed…”

Neptune soaked in the beauty of her sweat-soaked body and left a trail of soft kisses that started from her beautifully sculpted collarbones to her tight abdominal area. “I want this to last forever. I can never get enough of your beautiful body…”

Her body aching for more instinctively moved to receive the tenderness of his sensual touch. “Then, we stay. Don’t go.”

“You know this debrief is important.” Neptune hissed seductively, pausing in between his words to kiss her naked athletic body, a testament to his vessel’s years of running track professionally. “Gosh, I can’t…You’re just so…”

  “Baby…”

“Let’s change and make a move.” He planted a kiss on her lips, nibbling gently on her underlip. He then placed a blanket over her and rose from the bed, staring into the beyond where the floating island reminded him of the truth hidden in plain sight.

Brenda removed the blanket covering her bronzed, toned body to hug her man from the back, her exposed perky nipples leaning upon her pillar’s naked back.

  “I love you, Neptune.”

  “I love you, too.”

He knew they had summoned his presence but couldn't care less about attending it punctually. If not for unveiling the final stages of the great work, he would have chosen this instead.

  But first.

  “–E-eh?! What–”

Brenda felt herself lose control as Neptune unhooked her interlocking hands on his waist. He then lifted her tight, naked body with primal ferocity, pinning her down onto the bed as he mounted himself above her like a lion ready to feast on its prey.

  “You are more important.”

  “Neptune…”

All she did was surrender to him. She could not help but needily engage her athletic core to raise her head, giving her man a sensual kiss that received an equal match of utmost lustful eagerness. With their hands and tongues exploring the reproductive abyss, both had cast aside all the problems the United Atlantea Federation faced for this temporal, passionate dance.

“Sir, may I have your name?” The administrative assistant asked the officer who approached her with his researcher’s white coat folded in his arms.

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

  “Good day, Corporal Silver.”

“Sir, please state your full name and rank. I am required to check against the nominal roll for all attendees in today’s mission debrief.”

  “Come on now, Carly…”

Ivan groaned in annoyance at the S3B's professional standards. Using a top-down approach, even the S3’s assistant exuded the same professionalism, never letting down her hair during operational hours.

“Please cooperate, sir. I’m just doing my job.”

  “I understand.”

He shook his head as Carly, a soldier he often frequented lunch with, maintained that indifferent look.

“ME6 Ivan Newton of the AMRI and S2B. I’m here to report for the FAF-C098 mission debrief.”

FAF-C098 also known as Project Groenlandiae.

“Affirmative, sir. Give me a moment.”

After a brief moment, she stood up and bowed respectfully.

“Sir, ME6 Ivan Newton, your attendance has been recorded. On behalf of the S3, Major Leeroy Kingston, we at the SMCTF Headquarters welcome you to the FAF-C098 mission debrief. Carly reached out for a pamphlet containing the details of the debrief and handed it to her superior before continuing, “Sir, this pamphlet will contain today’s agenda. Also…”

She reached out from under her desk to retrieve an orange envelope.

“...I have been told to pass this along to you, sir.”

Eyeing the envelope intriguingly, Ivan wondered why the sender would not settle this transaction digitally.

“Sir, someone told me to pass this to you. If I can recall correctly, I believe it is from the Air Force courier; his exact instructions were to pass this along to you as he had other errands to attend to.”

Two faces came to mind. One that belonged to the unfortunate soul empowering the great work. The other belonged to the former commander of the Swan Contingent, a respectable man he once served under, whose elder brother–

  “Sir…?”

“Do you want to grab lunch at the cafeteria when this debrief ends?”

Carly sighed despairingly before gesturing to the stack of white boxes.

“Is that what I think it is?” Ivan gritted his teeth annoyingly.

“Sir, Major Kingston placed the indent orders for lunch and dinner…”

  “For both?!”

That meant the debrief would overrun as expected.

  “Yes, sir.”

“That Kingston fella…” Ivan had run-ins with the recently promoted S3 and never saw eye to eye on many things during their career.

“Major Kingston expects today's mission debrief to end late. I highly suggest you look at today’s agenda in the pamphlet. Also, based on what I know from setting the agenda, the AMRI’s part is quite lengthy, isn’t it, sir?”

  “Yes.”

“Anyways, sir, there’s been a change of plans.”

  “What?”

“Major Kingston, by the directives of Joint Command, had summoned ME4 Neptune Smith to talk about it.”

“That’s new; what for? We were told not to unveil anything until the green light has been given.”

“Bad news, sir…” Carly rose from her seat and whispered words of caution into Ivan’s ears. “They’re pushing for it.”

Ivan pursed his lips. “Those guys are getting impatient.”

“You know how it works, sir.”

“Yeah, of course. This isn’t my first time attending such a meeting. Anyways, thanks for the heads up.”

  “You’re welcome, sir.”

“They shouldn’t be complaining…” Ivan muttered.

  “Sir?”

  “Nothing.”

  “Yes…sir.”

  “See you around, Carly.”

“Likewise, sir. May the United Atlantea Federation resume its path of peace and prosperity again soon.”

…And he swore he had heard that one too many times.

  “We’ll see.”
