Chapter Eleven: One Hundred Years Ago
The Abandoned Continent, from the name alone, it sounds like a despicable place. But is that really true? The wheel of time rolls forward relentlessly, never stopping, but the river of memories can flow backwards. Let's take our protagonist Xiao Chen back to when he was still drifting in the dark space, and let our gaze arrive at that unknown mysterious world before him, and let our memories turn back to a hundred years ago.
Compared to the world where Xiao Chen was born and grew up, this is a parallel world, which is even more peaceful and harmonious. The sky is blue, the water is green, and humans, as the spirit of all things, are kind and simple. Every day, hardworking people work from dawn till dusk, living simple and happy lives, day after day, year after year.
However, the only drawback is that in this strange world, there are a large number of huge and ferocious beasts. These beasts not only are cruel but also like to gather in groups, and they regard humans as their best food. In front of them, humans appear so weak and have no power to resist at all.
But when these ferocious beasts appear, it is the beginning of human nightmares. People are afraid of such ferocious creatures, but they are helpless to deal with them and can only hide and escape. To express their disgust and fear towards such ferocious creatures, people call them savage beasts.
On a windy and sunny day, people in the world were living their peaceful and happy lives as usual. But suddenly, dark clouds suddenly filled the entire sky, followed by thunderous thunder, sharp lightning that ruthlessly tore through the sky, and struck down from the horizon. The endless wind let out a mournful, hair-raising scream. The massive sound was so frightening that even the thick and sturdy earth trembled with fear.
Amongst the flashes of lightning, there were dozens of dazzling rays of light that shot down from the sky and charged into every corner of this world.
"Everyone, hurry back home, the storm is coming!" Along with a sharp cry of surprise, countless people rushed towards their homes like headless flies, after all, being drenched by the storm didn't feel good.
It's really strange that despite the dark clouds covering the sun, the strong winds howling, and the thunder flashing, not a single drop of rain fell from the sky. What's even more puzzling is that before long, the dark clouds quietly dispersed, and the strong winds slowly stopped their boisterous behavior. The beautiful warm sun once again peeked out from behind the clouds, casting its gentle rays to every corner of the world. Joyful voices and laughter once again filled every corner of the world.
"My god, I've never seen such weird weather in my entire life!" After countless people let out a sigh of relief and shook their heads with a wry smile, they went back to their own business.
But just then, a discordant voice rang out among the crowd, "Heavenly anomalies must bring disaster, they must bring disaster!" The person who spoke these words was an old man with white hair and a stooped back, wearing tattered clothes. As he spoke, he beat his chest and stamped his feet, sighing and lamenting.
"Old ginger head, what nonsense are you talking about again! Be careful or someone will hear and beat you up!" A pretty little daughter-in-law standing next to the old man scolded.
Old Ginger, that is the elder. He was once a diviner in this world who was revered by people without comparison. His prophecies were always accurate. It was precisely because of his prophecies that countless people had forewarning before the barbarian beasts' attack and thus avoided heavy casualties by evacuating early.
That's why countless people respect him and love him, because as long as Old Ginger is around, they can avoid the terrible beasts ahead of time and continue to live a happy life.
But one day, everything changed. The old ginger head's divination skills were getting worse and worse, who was more unbearable, it could be said that not even one out of a hundred came true. What's even more frightening is that the old ginger head's fortune-telling was either saying that the east house would soon suffer from flying disasters or that the west house would soon be broken and people would perish. Of course, the old ginger head's prophecies scared people to death, making everyone tremble with fear.
The problem is that none of Lao Jiangtou's prophecies have come true. Those who were destined to suffer from disasters, those who were destined to lose their families and homes, are still living happy lives. Gradually, people became angry. In their view, these prophecies of Lao Jiangtou were simply a curse! What feud do we have with you, Lao Jiangtou, that you would curse us like this?
Although these things are extremely unpleasant, they are still small matters. But the most frightening thing is that in the event of a barbarian invasion, Old Ginger's divination technique seems to have suddenly become ineffective. When Old Ginger said that the barbarians were about to attack humans, people hastily packed up their families and moved to safe places.
But what's even more infuriating is that after all the fuss, not even a shadow of the beast was seen. And to make matters worse, just when Old Gingerhead said according to divination that the beast would definitely not appear, these terrifying guys appeared out of nowhere and dealt those unprepared people a heavy blow.
The loss of loved ones, the disappearance of friends, what a heavy blow it brings to people's hearts! And when such things happen again and again, people can no longer hold back their inner anger.
Thus, the once-great diviner, who was respected by all, received fewer and fewer admiring glances, and those who stayed by his side grew fewer and fewer. What's more, some hot-headed young men, dissatisfied with Lao Jiang Tou's words, physically assaulted him. And from then on, the diviner's status, once revered by all, plummeted to the point where he was even worse off than a beggar.
"Heavenly anomalies must bring disasters, and you poor people are still unaware, living in a daze. How pitiful! How lamentable! On the day of great calamity, you will all turn to dust and ashes!" As he looked around at the people, Old Ginger's eyes were filled with compassion.
"Old ginger head, you're spouting nonsense again, are you asking for a beating?" A sturdy young man said, suppressing his anger. This old guy is at it again, cursing people for no reason.
"You poor fools, disaster is about to befall you, yet you remain blissfully unaware. How pitiful! How lamentable!" The young man's words had no effect on Old Ginger Head, who only grew louder in his speech.
"When disaster comes, you, you, you, and your family will not have a single one to escape, all of you will be annihilated, no one can save you!" Old Ginger pointed at each person in front of him, "I seem to see endless wilderness, everywhere are incomplete corpses, flowing with blood, how miserable!"
"Old ginger head, you can curse us to death if you want, but why do you also have to curse our relatives and friends?" The young man's words had a tendency to burst out.
"My old ginger head never curses people, I'm just stating the facts." Facing the young man who was about to erupt, the old ginger head simply shook his head calmly, but the pity in his eyes deepened.
"Facts? Facts your ass! Old ginger head, if it weren't for your damn prophecies, would I have lost my beloved wife and child? Do you know how painful it was to see my child being devoured by beasts?! I'm telling you, my poor kid was only three years old, only three years old!!" A middle-aged man, overcome with painful memories, covers his face and wails loudly.
"And my aged parents, when the barbarians invaded, didn't even have the ability to escape, and were trampled to death by those beasts. And this is also because of your stupid prophecy!" Another sturdy young man wiped away tears from his eyes.
.
"You're going too far, old ginger head!" The cries of the people around him finally made the young man unable to bear his anger, he clenched his fist and rushed towards old ginger head.
"Boy! You can hit me if you want, but as a great fortune teller, I have the responsibility to tell you what will happen in the future. Believe it or not, it's up to you! A great disaster is coming, and none of you, your family, or friends will be able to escape!"
"How detestable! Fellow villagers, let's go together and beat this old scoundrel to death!" Jiang Lao's words caused even more people to lose control of their anger, countless people surged forward, and countless fists and feet fell on Jiang Lao's body like raindrops.
"A great disaster is coming, and what awaits us is total destruction. Is there anyone who can save us?" The old man's desperate cries grew fainter and fainter until they finally stopped.
"Stop it, stop it! Old Ginger's had enough!" A young man who was venting his anger on Old Ginger finally realized that something was off. He hastily grabbed hold of his companions and restrained them. But it was too late, Old Ginger was already motionless. What was strange was that even though Old Ginger was gone, his eyes were still filled with a fearful color.
"Perhaps we've gone too far!" someone muttered after a long silence.
"This is what he deserves, who asked him to spout nonsense!" Another man chimed in, but anyone could hear the lack of conviction in his tone.
"Let's just bury him then!" The last man finally said with these words as an end to everything.
"Crash!" A loud roar came from the sky, and the heavy rain poured down like arrows! With the deafening thunder, the storm finally arrived! It was literally a storm of "arrows" of rain, pouring down crazily in an instant. The thunder grew louder and the wind howled, while the thunder boomed. The sky was furious!
The fierce wind rolled up countless withered branches and leaves in the dirty sea, swirling around. "Go home quickly! Everyone hurry back home!" With a shout, people scattered and ran towards their respective homes, leaving only the old ginger head floating aimlessly in the filthy muddy water.
"Fool, is the great art of prophecy and divination also something that a lowly human should master?" Along with a mocking voice, a man's figure suddenly appeared. What was strange was that no matter how fiercely the wind raged, no matter how heavily the rain poured down, when it came to the man's side, it immediately became gentle, obediently changing its direction of movement.
"The era of the heavenly gods is about to arrive!" The mysteriously appearing man laughed!
