I gazed at my reflection in the mirror, admiring how comfortably the dress fit me. Then, I walked over to my vanity and sat down as Cecil picked up a brush and began combing my hair.
Round, rosy cheeks. Soft cherry lips. Clear purple eyes framed by long shes and two perfectly sculpted bck eyebrows. It was as if I’d won the genetic lottery. My bck hair, a defining trait of my father’s family, was inherited from him, while my striking purple eyes—and much of my beauty—came from my mother.
My two older brothers, however, took after our father more strongly. Tall noses, chiseled jaws, and sharp red eyes.
I noticed that Cecil was almost finished styling my hair into the usual space bun and adding hair ornaments to compliment my dress for the day. Jane helped me slip off my sleeping shoes and repce them with my outer shoes. Once they were both done, I walked over to the full-length mirror to admire my completed look.
“I look adorable today!” I said, fshing them both a thumbs-up.
Jane and Cecil’s faces brightened. “You’re always cute! young dy,” Jane said, ughing warmly in approval.
Having attendants is one of the few luxuries I truly enjoy in this life. As a commoner in a bustling society, such services feel like an indulgence — and I savor every moment of it.
Jane could be strict at times—unyielding, even—but whenever that happened, Cecil would quietly take my side, becoming my silent ally in the battle for small freedoms. Of course, Jane had the ultimate trump card: my mother’s full support. With that kind of backup, resistance was often… futile.
