Chapter 96 - The Purification of a Broken Heart

Light erupted through the soulscape like a supernova.

Alya staggered back, shielding her eyes as Orin's true form emerged from the collapsing shadows.

His body—still half-corrupted, still trembling—glowed from within, as if someone had re-lit a lantern that had burned out ages ago.

But the monstrous shell wasn't gone.

  Not yet.

A low, bone-deep growl vibrated through the world.

From behind Orin, the stone-and-shadow Devourer began to re-form—

lifting itself like a second spine behind his fragile human frame.

Cael whispered, voice tight with dread:

  "Orin...

  he's splitting."

  Rian swore under his breath.

  "The corruption is fighting back—

it's trying to separate the monster from the man."

  Alya stepped closer.

"Then we pull the man out of the monster."

  The Monster Fights Back

The corrupted cores—the remaining three—exploded with light.

  FIRE (Red)

  EARTH (Green)

  LIGHT (White)

The monstrous form let out a scream so loud Alya felt it in her bones.

  "YOU CANNOT TAKE HIM—

  HE IS ME—

  WE ARE ONE—

AND WE WILL NOT BE BROKEN—!!"

  Orin grabbed Alya's shoulders.

  "Heart—

  you have to RUN—

if he latches onto you, he'll make you his replacement—

just like he tried with me—"

  Alya shook her head violently.

  "No.

  I'm not leaving you."

Orin's expression twisted in something between awe and agony.

  "You're...

  insane."

  Rian barked:

  "Welcome to the group."

  Alya's Corruption Nears Its Limit

The black veins along her neck brightened—

so dark they looked like cracks in her skin.

Her aura wavered between gold and black,

the corruption slicing deeper every time she used her power.

Alya pressed a hand to her chest.

  "It's burning..."

  Cael grabbed her wrist, terrified.

  "Alya—stop—

  you have to stop—

or the corruption will reach your core—

  you'll lose yourself—

  you'll become—"

  He couldn't finish.

Alya cupped his cheek with her corrupted hand.

  "Cael...

  even if I fall—

  I want you to know—

  this was my choice."

  His breathing broke.

  "No.

  NO—

I'm not letting you make that choice—

  NOT LIKE THIS."

  Rian stepped behind her,

  gripping her shoulder tightly.

  "You're not falling.

  We won't let you."

  Alya's vision blurred.

  "Then help me.

  Hold on to me."

  Rian Takes the Risk

  The corrupted monster lunged—

fire, earth, and light bursting from its cracked chest—

  aimed straight at Alya.

Rian jumped in front of her.

  "RIAN—NO—!!"

  But it was too late.

The blast hit him square in the chest.

  BOOOOM—

  Rian flew backward—

  but Cael caught him,

  barely keeping him upright.

  Rian coughed viscous, black-tinged blood.

  Alya screamed:

  "RIAN—!!"

He wiped his mouth and forced a smile.

  "I'm fine."

  He was not fine.

His aura now flickered between blue, gold...

  and hints of shadow.

  Cael's eyes widened.

  "No...

  Rian—

  you're taking corruption—

you're absorbing the blow for her—"

  Rian shrugged weakly.

  "So?

Someone has to help her carry it."

  Alya's eyes filled.

  "Rian...

  don't—

  you don't have to—"

He stepped closer and pressed his forehead to hers.

  "Don't you dare say that.

  We're a Triad.

  Even if it's temporary.

  Even if it kills me."

  Alya trembled, tears falling.

"You weren't supposed to get hurt for me..."

  Rian laughed weakly.

  "Too late."

  Cael Makes a Desperate Decision

  The monstrous half roared again—

  gathering the three corrupted cores

  to strike with full force.

  Fire.

  Earth.

  Light.

All aimed at the center of the soulscape.

  At Alya.

Cael's body moved before his mind did.

He stepped in front of her—

  his entire aura flaring gold-silver,

  brighter than ever before.

  Alya screamed:

  "Cael—DON'T—!!"

  He didn't listen.

  He spread his arms wide.

  "If it hits anyone—

  let it be me."

  Rian grabbed his sleeve.

"Cael—if you take all of that—

  you're dead—

  dead dead—

  not magical coma—

  not 'dramatic fainting'—

  DEAD."

  Cael met Alya's eyes.

  And smiled softly.

  "I'm your anchor.

  My job...

  is to keep you steady."

  The blast fired—

  And Cael braced for impact—

  Orin Steps In

  The human Orin

  —still barely standing—

threw himself between Cael and the monster.

  BOOOOOM—

The corrupted cores exploded against Orin instead.

  Alya gasped.

  Cael choked.

  Rian shouted:

  "ORIN—!!"

The young man collapsed to his knees,

  smoke curling from his body,

  corruption sizzling across his skin.

  But he lifted his head.

  And smiled through the pain.

  "Anchors...

  don't break.

Not if they choose to hold."

  His golden eye glowed bright—

and the monstrous shell behind him shook violently,

  as if something inside it

  was pulling free.

  Alya whispered:

  "Orin...

  you're fighting him back—"

  Orin coughed blood.

  "Not alone..."

  He looked up at Alya.

  "At first...

I thought you came to replace me."

  Alya blinked.

  "...Replace—?"

  Orin shook his head.

  "No.

  You came to remind me

  that a heart only breaks

  when it stops being loved."

  Alya grabbed his hands.

  "You're not unloved anymore."

  Orin's voice cracked.

  "And neither are you."

Alya sobbed, collapsing against Cael and Rian,

their arms wrapping around her instinctively.

  For a moment—

the three of them held each other—

while Orin reached toward the light forming between their joined hands.

  The Triad Resonance Awakened

  Alya felt it first.

  A pulse.

  Not corruption.

  Not Devourer.

  Triad.

  A real Triad resonance—

  hers,

  Cael's,

  Rian's—

  and now Orin's too.

  Alya whispered:

  "...We can do it.

  We can purify him."

  Cael held her tighter.

  "I trust you."

  Rian nodded.

  "Let's finish this."

  Orin's fading voice whispered:

  "Heart...

  this will change everything."

  Alya met his eyes.

  "Good."

  She reached out—

  Cael and Rian flanking her—

  their auras weaving together.

  Gold.

  Silver.

  Blue.

  White.

Orin placed his hand against hers.

  The Purification began.

  And the monster roared—

as the Devourer's final three corrupted cores

  were dragged toward the light.
