Chapter 1035 Blood at the West Gate (1)

The air in the strategy room felt like a thin layer of steel, ready to crack at any moment. Outside, the pounding of drums grew louder, the sound of a thousand Qihuang Shin soldiers approaching like a dark wave.

Takeshi lowered his head, his eyes fixed on the ground, but his voice was firm despite the pressure. "The line at the west gate is likely to be the first hit by the machine dragon. If I fail to pull back in time, you need to be ready to lose twenty more today." He turned to Mira, "Do you understand the strategy?"

Mira bit her lip. "I understand, Takeshi. But what if they change tactics and come from another side?"

"That’s why we must stay alert," Takeshi added. "Do you remember their movement directions? They won’t give us a chance." He then turned to Fitran, "Fitran, make sure the spiral trap is active. One second too late, and we all become a story for the altar."

Fitran glanced towards the small window, watching the beam of light through the fog. "We need to place our best soldiers in strategic positions. If we can bait them into the trap, we can defeat them." He continued, "Let’s split their attention and then attack from two directions."

Mira swallowed hard, holding back the tears welling in her eyes. "But, Takeshi, I’m afraid I might run away too soon. If Kenji were here, he would definitely call me a coward."

Takeshi patted Mira’s shoulder, his grip firm, filled with pain. "You're not a coward, Mira. Remember, doubt is the worst enemy on the battlefield. If you're feeling uncertain today, speak up now. No one will judge you. It's better to be safe in the kitchen with Hana than to die in vain in front of the lines."

Fitran added, "We need to act fast. Every second counts; we can turn their tactics against them. We have three minutes before they arrive."

Mira shook her head vigorously, her breath heavy.

“I’m in. This isn’t just about us, Fitran. We have to ensure that every life we can save is not wasted.”

Fitran looked at Mira, his eyes filled with determination.

“Promise me. If today the world has to choose a villain, let it be me who takes that role. You all hold your ground and protect the weak!”

Suddenly, Hana entered, carrying a roll of fabric and a handful of iron keys. Her face was determined.

“The children are ready. All the food is stored in the basement. If we need to hide for two days, we're prepared. But, Fitran, listen carefully.”

Fitran furrowed his brow, waiting intently.

“What do you want, Hana? Speak up.”

Hana looked at him with an unwavering gaze that had remained since the first battle.

“Don't lock the kids down there for too long. They are not prisoners. They deserve to know when it is safe outside! We have to take this risk for their sake!”

Fitran nodded slowly, trying to understand.

“I won't forget them down there. But if the enemy breaks into the basement, I'll personally get you out. We cannot lose hope!”

Nobuzan, who had been silent until now, finally raised her voice firmly.

“We need to discuss strategy, not just feelings. Time is short, and we need to prepare! Fitran, if you fail, at least let me say goodbye to my own child.”

Fitran's expression softened, but only for a moment.

“You will be safe, Nobi. You and that baby. I promise I will protect you. We have a spiral trap at the entrance that can slow them down.”

Nobuzan nodded, unable to hide her anxiety.

“But we also need a strategy to face that machine dragon. They are coming from the north. We need to prepare the winged arrows we've made and set traps in the air.”

  Mira chimed in,

“We could split into groups. One group to guard the entrance, while the other prepares a surprise attack on the right side. With this assault, we can stop them before they reach the children!”

Fitran nodded in agreement with Mira's suggestion, speaking with enthusiasm,

“We’re all here not just to fight, but to protect each other. Remember, we have strength in unity. Every person here is part of a family worth fighting for!”

  Nobuzan added,

“And if we have to face that machine dragon, everyone needs to know the strategy. Who's drawing its attention and who will strike from behind. We can’t trust anyone but ourselves.”

Hana smiled, “We’re ready to fight, not just play defense. Don’t forget the protective spells we’re grateful for and all the lessons we’ve learned. We’re strong, and we’re going to prove it!”

Outside, the sound of drums abruptly ceased. Silence thickened, only the breaths of the sentinels on the walls and the creaking of old wood were audible. Below the tower, Takeshi gathered with the young soldiers. “Did you all hear that?” he called out firmly. “We’re not hiding here to wait for death, but to fight. Remember, if that machine dragon comes, hold your ground and use the spiral trap!”

A young soldier nodded nervously. “Takeshi-san, what if we can’t hold out? I’m scared, what should we do?”

Takeshi answered with a voice full of conviction, “No one can retreat. Remember, one step back, and your strategy crumbles! We must hold our formation and be ready to face any attack. If anyone gets separated from the group, don’t hesitate to signal with a flare!”

A young man, Shinta, with a trembling voice, asked, “If I die, Takeshi-san, will you give my regards to my mother?”

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

Takeshi looked deeply into his eyes and nodded. “I promise, Shinta. But today, we will not die. We must fight. Are you all ready?”

Shinta straightened his back. “I’m ready! If a dragon comes, we will pin them down with the spiral trap!”

Takeshi smiled, “That’s the spirit I like! We will use the tactics we’ve practiced. We’ll strike from the south while Hana and the women keep the children safe in the lower field.”

Shinta’s eyes welled up, but he gripped his spear tighter. “I won’t be the one left behind.”

Meanwhile, Hana and the women moved quickly. Hana embraced the children one by one, whispering protective prayers. “You all must be brave, okay? I will stay with you in the underground. Whatever happens outside, you won’t be alone.”

A little girl tugged at Hana’s hand, her voice soft, “Mom, can I cry later?”

Hana looked at him gently, “Of course, my dear. Crying is not a sign of fear. It's a sign that you're still alive. Remember, in critical moments, close your eyes, listen to my voice, and hold on to our message.”

Returning to Takeshi, he heard a rumbling sound from afar, “What is that?” he asked. “Everyone, stay calm! Whoever falls today, let them become part of our strength. We must unite!”

“And if there are machine dragons, we will face them together!” shouted one of the soldiers enthusiastically. “We’ll use arrows from the tower. Everyone, remember your positions. Don’t let them get close!”

Hana embraced him, tears nearly spilling,

“Of course, my dear. Crying is not a sign of fear. It's a sign that you're still alive.”

She took a deep breath and continued, “You know, in a war like this, tears can be a source of strength. Each tear is a prayer, and we need a lot of those.”

“Mom, what about the machine dragons they talk about?” her child asked, fear evident in his voice. “Can we defeat them?”

“We will do everything we can, dear. We have spiral traps that can divert their attention. Nobuzan and Fitran are planning a counterattack.”

“But what if the trap fails, Mom?” her child asked, his voice trembling.

“We have to trust their strategy. Fitran knows what needs to be done. All our soldiers are trained to be ready for anything. We are not alone.”

In the tower, Nobuzan stood with both hands pressed against her heavy stomach. She gazed far to the west, her prayer barely a whisper:

“Ancestors, if you must take a life today, take mine instead. Not my children, not Takeshi, not Mira…”

“Nobi,” Fitran's voice came from behind her, “we can’t give up. Our plan must proceed as scheduled. Have you checked the archers' positions?”“I have, and they’re ready. However, we need to ensure they’re not exposed to the machine dragon,” Nobuzan replied, her voice firm. “We need time to lure the enemy into the spiral trap. We have to maintain their endurance.”

“Your prayers will be heard, Nobi. But today, I need you to be their flame. If you waver, everything collapses. We must work together and support one another.”

“We all have a role in this. The archers, the infantry, even the artillery. Everyone must communicate well,” Nobuzan said, her eyes filled with determination. “Takeshi and Mira are ready with their troops to ambush from behind, right?”

“Yes, they’re already in position. They will act when we give the signal. You have to stay focused, don’t let your emotions take over,” Fitran added.

“I will stand, Fitran. I won’t fall,” Nobuzan reminded herself, determined with newfound strength. “Today, we will show them that we are more than just numbers.”

  Fitran nodded, his voice soft,

“I believe in you, even if you don’t believe in yourself.”

Just as the sun began to rise through the fog, the sound of drums shattered the silence once more. From behind the smoke, the ranks of Qihuang Shin warriors emerged like a dark river flowing into the abyss. Fitran turned to the soldier beside him, hoping to feel their spirit. “We must not waver! Once we advance, there is no turning back,” he said, trying to bolster their resolve.

“Are we ready to face that machine dragon?” Takeshi asked firmly, a bright smile on his face.

“When it arrives, our ranks must hold! We cannot let any gaps open,” Fitran said, directing his gaze at the map. "Remember, keep the spiral trap in a safe position. We can't afford to be late.”

Takeshi nodded, his voice trembling but resolute,

“I’ll lead myself. If I fall, hand command over to Shinta. But please, don’t let her change the plan; we must stick to this strategy.”

Mira chimed in, “We should set up traps if they try to surround us. Let them get caught in the spiral trap.”

“Exactly! We can use the lasers from the traps as long-range attackers. And when they’re trapped, we can strike them from behind. We need perfect timing,” Fitran responded with enthusiasm.

“But if everything goes wrong, are we really willing to sacrifice ourselves for that tactic?” Takeshi asked, feeling the tension in his heart.

Mira interjected firmly, “We have to be brave enough to take risks. We can’t back down! Everyone here is counting on us. If we succeed, this house will be saved.”

“And even if that’s our fate, believe me,” Fitran added, “We won’t be alone. We fight together, as one unit!”

Fitran glanced down at the map again and spoke to everyone still present,

“Everything is going according to plan. Takeshi, once the machine dragon breaks through the door, hold the line until the spiral trap is ready. Mira, signal to Hana and make sure everyone is underground before the second spiral.”

Mira looked at Takeshi for a moment, the tension on her face was unmistakable. “Takeshi, are you sure? We’re all counting on your decision,” she said urgently.

Takeshi looked at her seriously, “We have no other choice, Mira. Fitran, are you sure this strategy will work?”

Fitran met their gazes, his voice as firm as tempered steel. “I’m prepared to lose everything, as long as this home stands. But remember, we must fight together as well. That machine dragon won’t stop until we’re all torn apart.”

Takeshi nodded, “How do we distribute our strength? Should we place guards at every exit from the spiral trap?”

Mira added, “We need to split our forces wisely. One group here to fend off the rear attacks, and another in front to hold back the dragon. If the spiral trap activates, we can break their ranks!”

Fitran agreed, “Absolutely. We need to be ready to adapt as the battle begins. We can't get trapped; if this stronghold stands, then our hearts will stand too!”

Outside, the sound of drums began to echo, the thunder of iron horses pounding, and the explosions of fire arrows merged into a symphony of hell. “We will face the darkness, but we are not without hope!” shouted Takeshi, trying to bolster his team's spirit.

“Hold fast, my children! The world is not ending today!” cried Nobuzan from behind the wall, her voice resonating like thunder before a storm.

“We are protectors, not cowards!” Mira added, her fighting spirit infectious. “Let’s show them that we will not give up without a fight!”

Fitran closed his eyes for a moment, gathering strength and focus. “Don’t forget their weak points, and remember, if we can separate the dragon from its army, we have a chance.”

Takeshi nodded, “Alright, last orders. Remember the plan and hold the formation! We will fight until our last breath!”

“Start,” Fitran gave the command firmly, and the team’s spirit ignited.

And so the wheel of fate for Yamato began to turn, ready to face all the obstacles ahead. They each prayed silently, recalling everything they had at stake.
