In 2021, the first superhero appeared. Calling himself Preceptor, he was but the first of many—a new subset of humanity soon known as the empowered. The empowered ushered in the Golden Age, a time of unparalleled social, cultural, and technological advancement. Named for Greek mythology, it was based on the preeminent truth of the time: gods and demigods had returned to walk the Earth once more.

  But it did not last. Old tensions and new threats culminated in the Golden Age Collapse. By 2041, half the world’s population was dead, many nations no longer existed, and the geographic structure of the Earth had been forever altered. Out of the ashes arose the International Empowered Security Agency, with a mandate to save what was left of the world—by any means necessary.
