Chapter 79: The Torn Truth

  Chapter 79: The Torn Truth

The three of them slowly walked along the main road of the vilge, searching for the whereabouts of Qin Liangguang and the others.

As the first light of dawn appeared, the vilge remained eerily silent. The ground was scattered with the remains of the mummies, and bloodstains dotted the paths. Sanbao and her companions followed the trail of blood, eventually stopping in front of a house they had passed by the previous night.

Wang Suifeng pushed the door open, and inside, they found Qin Liangguang lying in the center of the room, already lifeless.

His eyes were wide open, his face frozen in an expression of extreme surprise and unwillingness. His hands were outstretched, as though he had been trying to grasp something before his death.

Sanbao and Wang Suifeng exchanged a gnce, and a name immediately surfaced in their minds—Wang Yuanying.

She was Qin Liangguang's girlfriend. She had left the group the previous night, fleeing from the temple alone. Later, she had led the horde of mummies to attack them. She had even tried to ambush Sanbao in the temple...

Combined with the expression of unwillingness and surprise on Qin Liangguang’s face, it wasn’t hard to deduce that the one who had killed him was someone he trusted most—his girlfriend, Wang Yuanying.

Wang Suifeng sighed and walked over to Qin Liangguang’s body. He gently id him ft, reaching out to close his eyes. He murmured softly, "Don’t worry. We’ll avenge you."

The three of them silently left the silent room, continuing their search for the others in the vilge.

Along the way, there were still a few stray mummies wandering the vilge. But to Sanbao, Wang Suifeng, and Tang Mingli, these mummies were like paper dolls—easy to cut down, swiftly and decisively.

They cleared the mummies they encountered along the main road, and soon reached the vilge entrance.

There, they found Gu Xiaotu and Shi Mengsong still fighting off the remaining mummies.

Gu Xiaotu was chanting a spell, and with a flick of his finger, a rge earthen wall rose from the ground, blocking the incoming mummies. Shi Mengsong, seizing the opportunity, swung his arm like a bde, cutting down the trapped mummies.

The two worked in perfect coordination, and already, dozens of mummies had fallen.

Sanbao and the others quietly observed, relieved to see that they hadn’t arrived too te and were able to help.

However, as they got closer, they noticed that there was one more person fighting off the mummies behind Gu Xiaotu and Shi Mengsong.

  It was Wang Yuanying.

She was wielding a long whip made of vine, swinging it through the air. Each time the whip struck a mummy, numerous green vines sprouted from the impact point, wrapping around the corpse and tearing it apart.

Sanbao looked to Wang Suifeng, hoping he could expin. She had never seen such a technique before. With Wang Yuanying's strength at the te second rank, it was impossible for her to use such a powerful technique.

Wang Suifeng also noticed the anomaly, and he quietly expined, "This is a Wood Elemental technique, but no, a te second-rank practitioner couldn't use this kind of power."

Tang Mingli, standing beside them, scoffed and added, "This is called the *Vine Bone Whip*. It channels the natural power of the Wood Element, and only a sixth-rank Wood Elemental practitioner can use this technique."

  Sixth rank?

Sanbao’s heart skipped a beat. She vaguely remembered Wang Yuanying had always cimed she was only at the te second rank. How then was she using a technique meant for a sixth-rank practitioner?

Doubt filled the hearts of the three, but with the horde of mummies still not dealt with, they decided to hold off on their questions for now. They pressed on and rushed into the fray to help clear the remaining mummies.

After a while, the mummies were finally eliminated.

Gu Xiaotu sighed in relief, retracting his Earth Elemental abilities. The earthen walls crumbled, returning to the earth, and everything fell silent.

He smiled at Wang Suifeng and said, "Thanks for getting here in time. If you hadn’t come, we would have run out of energy and couldn’t have held on much longer."

Shi Mengsong also revealed a rare smile, bowing toward the three of them. "I’ve been practicing my abilities since I was eight, but this is the first time I’ve killed like this. Thank you."

However, Sanbao and the others didn’t respond to their gratitude.

The three of them formed a triangle around Wang Yuanying, silently surrounding her in the center.

Wang Yuanying’s expression shifted slightly, and she quickly discarded her vine whip, adopting a pitiful, almost innocent demeanor. She spoke with a trembling voice, apologizing.

"I’m sorry, sister. I was controlled by something back then, which is why I attacked you. It was probably the same thing that possessed Shi Mengsong. Now I’m fully awake. See? I’ve been fighting alongside you, killing mummies as well."

Gu Xiaotu, standing nearby, also spoke up, "She’s been fighting alongside us. She’s really come to her senses. She must have been possessed before, which is why she acted so strangely."

  Shi Mengsong nodded in agreement.

But Sanbao’s lips curled into a cold smile as she stared at Wang Yuanying with piercing eyes.

"Shi Mengsong was indeed possessed, but you weren’t."

Her gaze became sharp, her words as cold as ice: "You weren’t possessed by any demon. The one who released the demon that possessed Shi Mengsong was you!"

Wang Yuanying’s face turned ashen, and her body trembled slightly.

Was Wang Yuanying’s story true, or was it a lie? The air around them grew thick with an indescribable pressure, and it felt as if even the wind had stopped howling.
