DMS Chapter 24
It was already dark when Flinx returned to his tower. He had to cast the Crown of Stars so he would have some lights to guide him back. He found it a little humorous that he was using a powerful level 7 spell as a light spell.
When he returned to his tower, it wasn’t there anymore. Flinx forgot to renew the spell. He simply cast it again, and the tower reappeared. He then retired early that night since he didn’t sleep the night before, and he was busy the rest of the day.
The sun wasn’t up yet when Flinx woke up the next day. He ordered breakfast from his system shopping site and thought of the fact that he was burning through his savings with just food alone. He knew that kind of worry would be alleviated once he learned how many mana stones he would earn once he started killing monsters in the forest. He thought about cooking and pre-preparing his meals, and then storing them in his 4th tab space.
Flinx could purchase local meat, grains, and vegetables, then just purchase the spices from his system shopping site, but thinking about learning how to cook was making him feel tired. He didn’t want to cook, so the only solution that he could think of was to earn enough mana stones to the point that his earnings could fully support his day-to-day living.
After breakfast, Flinx went outside and started picture-taking again. He made sure to cover every inch of his home, including the road to the church. The st time he checked, the number of pictures he had collected was more than 200, so he stopped. He then reviewed the pictures that he took to make sure that his home was imprinted in his mind.
The next thing that he wanted to do was to test out the Teleport spell. Flinx walked to the church, and when he arrived there, he went to the back without notifying anyone. Once he was sure that he was alone, he cast the Teleport skill. He appeared beside his tower, and that delighted Flinx.
Of course, he would need to do a lot of testing before he was sure that he could teleport to his home without error anytime he wanted. The problem that he had with his home was the ck of a permanent structure that he used to pinpoint the location. He thought of buying a statue, but then he thought that the fastest thing he could do was purchase something from his system shopping site that he could use to mark the area.
Flinx decided to purchase a bench. One of those sturdy ones that one would usually find in a park. He chose one that was made entirely of wood so it wouldn’t rust. He spent a hundred dolrs on a good-looking, very sturdy bench and pced it under one of the trees.
He was surprised that a single bench made the whole pce more aesthetically pleasing. He took a lot of pictures again, making the bench the subject. Flinx just wished that no one would take it once he was gone. The thing did cost him a hundred dolrs.
After he had familiarized himself with his new home. Flinx went to the Adventurer Guild. He needed more information on the surrounding forest, specifically the best direction that he could go to encounter high-level monsters.
The walk to the guild was pleasant. A lot of people were now greeting him. He felt that the townsfolk accepted him into their fold. More than likely, it was because of how generous he was in telling fairy tale stories to their children.
When he arrived at the guild, he thought of where to go to find information about the forest that surrounded the town. He then noticed the tavern beside the guild and thought of asking the adventurers resting there.
Upon entering the tavern, Flinx was gd that there were already a few adventurers drinking some sort of beverage there. He looked around, trying to find the veterans, and found them at one of the tables. He based his assumptions on the men’s age and how they moved. There was a dangerous stillness that surrounded the four men who were drinking and discussing something.
“Good afternoon, gentlemen. My name is Flinx. The new foreign adventurer who has just arrived in town. Can I buy you all a few rounds of whatever you're drinking?” Flinx told the four men when he got near their table.
“Sure thing, Flinx. Go ahead and get yourself a seat and join us,” one of the men said.
Once he took an empty chair from the next table, the men introduced themselves to Flinx.
“I’m Dalin, this is Vuto, Leonard, and Orman. How can we help you?” Dalin asked.
“I’m pnning to leave for the forest to hunt high-level monsters. I have this compass here that was given to me by my family. Can you tell me the best direction that I can go so I can encounter powerful monsters the soonest time possible?” Flinx said and showed the four men his compass that he bought from his system shopping site.
The four men looked surprised, and then they looked at each other.
“That’s a nice compass you’ve got there. It looked a little flimsy, though,” Vuto said while he presented his compass to Flinx.
Vuto’s compass was encased in a solid metal that looked like it would survive a nuclear holocaust. Flinx’s compass looked like one of those accessories that a cospyer would use as part of his or her costume.
“Are you sure you’re fine facing powerful monsters?” Dalin asked.
“I’m a very powerful mage. I need to power up as fast as I can so I can return home, and the only way for me to be able to do that is to face powerful monsters. Besides, I have a powerful teleport spell that will allow me to teleport back here anytime I want, regardless of the distance. I can also fly,” Flinx told the men.
“Can you heal?” One of the other men asked.
“Yes. I also have a healing spell,” Flinx answered.
“You can join our team,” Dalin then said.
“Not for now. I wanted to adventure solo first.”
The four men looked disappointed when Flinx didn’t join them. They did answer his question, though.
“Honestly, you will encounter powerful monsters in any direction that you head into, but the most dangerous one is the one that leads to the area called the Zone of Despair. It’s to the northeast of here, and you didn’t have to actually reach the zone. Once you get near enough there, powerful monsters will appear,” Dalin said.
“Don’t be too reliant on your compass since there are areas and monsters in the forest that affect such devices,” Vuto advised.
“My teleport spell doesn’t rely on my compass, so I think I’ll be fine.”
“We’ve also heard that there were instances when such powerful spells failed because of special circumstances that can appear in the forest,” Leonard added.
“What do you mean? Some areas don’t allow magic to exist?” Flinx gasped.
“No, no. We haven’t seen or heard of areas like that. We’ve only heard about some of the spells intended effect went awry,” Leonard amended.
“That’s fine. I can fly out of any dangerous situation, or at worst, I can just run.”
“It will be safer if you’re in a group,” Dalin said.
“I’ll probably join a group ter, but not for now. Thank you for the direction,” Flinx said.
