Abel stood with his mouth ajar. This wasn't a library, it was a gold mine of books and journals.
They were heaped in rows upon rows of shelves. The room was about thirty feet long and wide. He roamed around, checking the different sections, leaving Boris behind
Just as he marvelled at the architecture, a figure walked out from behind a shelf, holding a pile of books.
It seemed to be a short young person with
Before Abel could react, the person made a quick turn and bumped into Abel.
CRASH!!!
They both collided into each other, books toppling over and falling.
“Ouch, watch where you're going!” a squeal rang out.
Abel held his head in pain, as he had tried his best to fall on his back, but failed to. He instead had hit his head on a shelf.
“Well I oughta!!! Whut was that for the love of all God?” Boris walked into the section where the crash happened, and then burst into a hearty laugh at the sight of the accident.
“What the fuck? Who dares bump into this one?” the person squealed in a feminine childish voice.
“That's my line kid” Abel replied when he saw the figure before him. It was a small girl with blonde hair tied into twin pigtails and ruby red eyes as red as blood.
“Kid? Did you just call me a Kid?!!”
“Oh No!” Boris sighed, pinching his nose whilst shaking his head.
“That's what you are…” Abel mumbled as he stood up. Just as he stood, a foot rammed itself into his shin.
The pain that followed was immense. It was as if a hammer was swung into him.
Abel tumbled again, grasping his left shin.
“Ow!!! What's your problem?” He yelled, glaring angrily at the child before him.
The girl puffed her cheeks in contempt, her eyes closed as she folded her arms.
“Well deserved. Calling I, Isabella Constancia Redford Von Helius, a mere child. Hmph!!!” she harrumphed.
Abel was shocked at such a petty reason.
‘Is she Serious?’ he thought to himself.
“Now now Bella, don't go being rude. This the new rookie I told ya about” Boris came in to intervene, ruffling her hair.
“No fair Uncle Boris!” She grumbled, her face flushing red.
“Don't mind the kid Abel, she's a special case here, just like her brother”
“Her brother?” Abel stuttered, before looking at her face as he stood up. She didn't look like anyone he was familiar with.
“Hmph! Don't compare me to my brother, I'm a different person” she mumbled before turning to face Abel with a scowl.
“So new guy, what brings you here to the Archives?”
Abel dusted his jacket and grabbed his coin, showing it to Isabella.
Isabella's eyes gleamed red as crimson. The coin began to vibrate slightly, before stabilizing.
“You will have access to the first and second floor of the Archives. You can stay as long as you want, but no noise you hear?” She spoke calmly, walking away.
The books that lay on the floor suddenly began to glow with red light, as they levitated towards her open arms and stacked up on each other.
Abel was fascinated as he saw her use magic to lift the books, but a thought came to his mind….
‘Why doesn't she just carry it with her abilities?’
Boris chuckled and took Abel along. They passed multiple shelves before stopping at a particular shelf.
This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there.
He grabbed six books and handed them to Abel. They were titled as follows:
*The Realm of Spirits
*The Transcendent Abilities and their Classifications
*Powerful Artifacts and Rankings
*Phenomenon: the Logic behind their existence.
*Signs of Corruption and Madness
*Gods and Abyss Lords
Abel was overwhelmed, with both the titles and their weights.
“Spend a few hours with these. I'm sure you'd enjoy them. You can even sleep over here if ya want” said Boris as he pointed to the clock. It was 8:46pm, just about curfew time on the Surface.
Boris turned to leave and stopped. He turned to the young man who took a seat on a free desk and added.
“Also, if you begin to see or hear ‘Things’ around you, ignore them!” Then he left the Archives, returning it to calm.
Abel saw the time, then at the books before him and sighed. His thoughts were weary.
‘It's going to be a long night's

Boris walked back to his post, sighing whilst swearing under his breath. He grabbed a small alcohol can and took a swig.
“Ahhh! Hits the spot!” He exclaimed, relaxing his nerves. Just then, the door behind him opened, a figure waltzed out, before leaning on the pillar opposite where he was seated.
“Lookie here what the full moon brought out”
“Hello Uncle,” Dorothy replied with a straight face.
“Awright! awright!! Whut does my lil niece want this time?” He asked with an exasperated look. Whenever he looked at his niece, he was reminded of the past.
His younger days, his Glory…
And his failures…
“Nothing much Uncle, I just wanted to drop a message”
Boris lifted an eyebrow as he looked curiously.
Silence followed, before Dorothy broke it with her next words.
“News has it that ‘He’ is in Belmont?”
The lights in the hallway suddenly dimmed and then flickered, the air shuddered and moaned.
The next thing, a wave of cold killing intent flooded the hallway.

“Achoo! Why did it get cold all of a sudden?” Abel shuddered as he was looking through one of the books.
He ignored the cold, continuing to study diligently.
He was currently reading about the Transcendent Abilities and their Classifications. It was a book that explained the different abilities and classification of different transcendents.
Transcendents were divided into multiple classes:
*Psychics
*Enhancers
*Dream Walkers/ Illusionists
*Spiritists/ Spirit Mediums
*Elementalists
*Summoners
And many more unregistered classes unknown to the churches. These classes were diverse in their abilities, though some of them had similarities with others.
Take for example, every single Transcendent gained physical and mental capabilities beyond that of a normal human. But Enhancers went beyond regular transcendents, gaining super human strength and speed.
One thing though was that everyone who transcended was unique in the characteristics of his class.
Classes were just a generalization of what was known.
Currently, Abel hasn't shown any characteristics of any of these classes, just the basics of being a transcendent being.
‘So, I'm no longer human?’
Abel continued to study, finishing the book within an hour.
Time Dilation was quite unfair…
He put the book down and picked up another titled ‘Phenomenon’.
The book was large and seemed quite new.
When he opened it, he noticed that it seemed to be more of a journal than a book. Each was dated and meticulously written with sub-topics and some attachments.
Each talked about different supernatural Phenomenon, its causes and its subsequent effects.
For Example

Exercise Caution
Abel continued flipping through, finding a sense of fascination from these supernatural incidents. Some of these Phenomena had been rectified by either the churches of the various divines and their acolytes, whilst the others were either too powerful to suppress and were avoided or had ended in their own accord.
Abel wasn't concerned about all those. His eyes were scanning the book for one Phenomenon in particular.
And soon, just on the last page, he found it.
July 5th 1648
Phenomenon Name: The Blue Sun
‘Found You!’ Abel grinned…
