Chapter 52: The History of Dead Island
The bony carriage didn't feel bad at all, it was very stable. Gallo and Luo didn't say a word because suddenly they felt that on this Island of the Dead God, there seemed to be something strange going on.
They arrived at the building complex, and the bony vehicle stopped. Galo and Luo got out of the vehicle, and a soft sound was heard as a door behind them slowly opened, revealing a dark entrance. Galo furrowed his brow, snapped his fingers, and a flame appeared in his hand. Holding this flame, the two walked inside.
As soon as they entered, the door creaked shut, and Luo seemed to have been startled. Galois didn't seem to care at all, walking further inside. Luo thought for a moment before following him, saying "Galois, haven't you ever thought that person might be trying to harm us? And yet we just walked in like this?"
"It's possible, but compared to this, I want to know the answer more. Compared to that, my own life doesn't even matter."
"What! Is that thing so important? What if you die then? Wouldn't you be even more unable to achieve that thing?" Luo was a bit surprised.
"Death... I've already died once, nothing can shake me now. This life is just a bonus, so I know I'll never give up." By the time Garo finished speaking, he had reached his limit.
Two thick stone walls opened, and a faint firelight shone out. Galen extinguished the flame in his hand and walked in. Inside was a huge laboratory. What surprised him most was that there were countless skeletons here, with at least hundreds of them visible at first glance. In addition, on one wall, there was a massive bookshelf filled with all sorts of books, as well as numerous medicine bottles.
Then he turned around and saw someone.
A person wrapped in a large black robe from head to toe, of medium build, sat quietly in the middle of the room. "Welcome, you are my first guest, please sit." The voice no longer had the strange feeling it just had, and sounded like that of a man around thirty years old. With a clap of his hand, two skulls walked over and placed two chairs about three meters in front of him.
Karlo sat down directly, but Luo seemed still a bit tense and looked around for a while before sitting down.
"Alright, let's get straight to the point. What is your true purpose for coming here? Don't bother discussing grand theories with me, a dead spirit cultivator. Let's be straightforward, shall we?"
Ka Luo nodded "I want to ask you, is there a way for your necromancers to bring the dead back to life?"
"Can the dead come back to life? This question is a bit strange, aren't we necromancers always doing that? You've seen it too, all those corpses up ahead didn't they all come back to life?" The man replied lightly, but Galo furrowed his brow. "I'm not talking about this kind of existence without a soul, I mean the kind where someone is completely revived with their original soul intact. That's what I came here seeking an answer for."
"......Give up." The man suddenly said this after a moment of silence!
Garro stood up, and his chair was knocked over to the ground. Then, with Garro as the center, a strong whirlwind appeared. "What did you say?!"
The man slowly stood up. "Can't you even accept a sentence like this?" He raised his hand and took off the black hood on his body.
Appearing before the two of them was a young man in his early twenties. "I say, give up, because I'm just like you. Do you know why I became a Necromancer?"
"Fifty years ago, when I was about twenty-three years old, I was already a sixth-level full-system mage. At that time, I had fame, I had power, I had wealth, and I had everything that made people envious. I also had a girl who loved me deeply, and everything was so beautiful that it made me feel like this world was the most perfect."
"But then the girl suddenly died, dying in a riot. It was only then that I felt what rights and wealth were all empty. She died, and my heart seemed to have died too. Every day was a blur, without hope or light. I locked myself in the study, and for those few months, the only things that could be with me were magic books. Only when I was with the books could I quietly forget everything."
"But then one day, I unexpectedly saw a book that recorded some information about necromancy. What it said, I've already forgotten, but one thing has stuck with me deeply: the dead can be revived. For my last hope, I came here and started learning necromancy from the death spirit masters, hoping that one day I could save her. But what I never expected was that there would be such a huge gap between ideal and reality. The more I learn about necromancy, the more I realize that only those who have lost their soul and life force can be revived... not her."
The man stood up and walked to the innermost part of the laboratory, where a crystal coffin was placed, with a beautiful girl lying inside. "For fifty years, I have been thinking about bringing her back to life, making her smile at me again, but it's all just an illusion."
"No, no way!" Gallo shouted out of line. "It's okay, if her physical body can exist, just call back the soul and let the two merge, isn't that possible?"
"...That's what you call soul power, right? That's what you wanted to know." The man shook his head. "It's useless, I've experimented with it before. A deceased person's soul cannot be summoned. Our soul magic can only barely destroy someone else's soul, that's all. We humans are not gods, controlling souls is simply not something we can do."
"Absolutely not! I won't give up any hope!" The only glimmer of hope was shattered, and for Gallo, nothing could make her lose her composure more than this.
"Suit yourself, I don't care anymore. If you're going to do it, I hope I get to see it too."
For a moment, the laboratory fell silent, leaving only Gallo's heavy breathing.
After calming down, Garro looked around "This is the Island of the Dead God, so why does it seem like you're the only one here?"
"There's no one left, I'm the only one remaining here. All the other necromancers are dead. When I arrived, there were nearly twenty people on this island, but they all disappeared in an accident ten years ago." The man stood up and sat back down in his chair "So now I live alone, I don't know if I'll ever be able to leave this island again and see the human world in my lifetime."
From head to toe, the man's indifference didn't waver in the slightest. Gallo was puzzled and opened his mouth "Accident? What accident?"
The man seemed to have not spoken for a long time, and he was also quite interested in seeing Gallo and the others. "Twelve years ago, when a necromancer was summoning, an accident occurred during the magic array, and the death creature that was originally intended to be summoned did not appear, but instead, a rare metal life form was accidentally summoned. That life form immediately devoured the necromancer on the spot and was then sealed away by others. However, they were shocked to discover that this life form had many strange characteristics, such as its body being able to become hard as steel or soft as cotton, looking very large but extremely light, and possessing special evolutionary abilities. We tried many methods to eliminate it, but in the end, we were unable to do so, and thirteen mages worked together to seal it away. Originally, we thought that was the end of it, but ten years ago, a necromancer suddenly had an idea - he wanted to turn that metal life form into his summoned creature. He used a very special method, collecting twelve magic cores from various creatures. It's worth noting that his idea was quite unique - by using the energy of different magic cores, he could make the metal life form absorb and decompose them, then slowly absorb their energies. This was indeed a crazy decision, but unexpectedly, after the metal life form absorbed the magic cores, it had an extremely intense reaction, and then began to go berserk, devouring everything in its path."
"Indeed, it wasn't just the magic core that was swallowed up, but all the dead spirit masters on the island. I happened to be by the sea on business that day and narrowly escaped, when I returned everyone was dead. What surprised me most is that after experiencing such a situation, this life form seemed to have excess energy, producing decomposition, differentiating into twelve forms of existence, and evolving."
"Oh, in that case, I'm very interested! Can you take me to see it?" Gallo suddenly became enthusiastic.
"Are you interested in this? Of course, anyone with power would be interested in such things. Are you coming too?" The man beckoned to Luo, who was almost forgotten.
"Of course, who wouldn't want to see something so interesting? Let's go, let's go." Luo took the totem pole from one side and followed along.
"By the way, I haven't asked for your names yet." The man said as he led the two away.
"My name is Jia Luo, his name is Luo, what's yours?"
"Just call me Bai Ke then."
Walked to almost the bottom of the island, a large iron gate with a written magic symbol appeared. "Arrived, it's here." Stretched out his hand and pushed open the door. "It's strange to say, just when you arrived on the island, this metal life form suddenly had a big shock, scaring me."
Karo and Luo followed Baiko in, but upon seeing what was before them, Karo's eyes widened in shock "How is this possible! This is...!"
