CHAPTER 17: The Price of Entry

Chapter 17: The Price of EntryLike she said, we reached the vilge by sundown.

The entrance was surrounded by a tall wooden fence, with two guards standing at the gate, spears in hand. As soon as we approached, they stepped forward, blocking our path.

“WHO GOES THERE!?” one of them barked.

“Just two passing travelers,” I answered.

  “WHAT IS IT YOU WANT!?”

“A pce to recuperate and gather some supplies.”

“ENTRY IS 2 GOLD COINS FOR THE BOTH OF YOU!”

What!? I have to pay just to get in? This is highway robbery!

Good thing I thought of looting those sve traders. With a sigh, I pulled out two gold coins and handed them over.

  “YOU MAY ENTER!”

I don’t know how much a gold coin is worth, but I definitely feel like I just got robbed. At least those sve traders were loaded.

I gnced at the guard again. “Uh, excuse me. Do you know of a pce we could stay? Like a hotel or an inn?”

The guard grunted. “GURDURR ADVENTURER’S GUILD. JUDGING FROM YOUR CLOTHES, IT’LL BE UP YOUR PRICE RANGE. IF YOU KEEP GOING STRAIGHT, YOU’LL SEE THE SIGN. YOU MAY LEAVE YOUR HORSES AND WAGON HERE. I ASSURE YOU THEY’LL BE TAKEN CARE OF.”

An Adventurer’s Guild, huh? Sounds promising.

  “Okay, thanks.”

Iris and I got off the wagon, stretching our legs after the long journey. As we started heading toward the guild, I gnced at our clothes.

Maybe we should buy some new outfits before heading over there…
