Chapter 21: Law-abiding Citizens
The invitation letter written by Lord Nelson, the ruler of Asrat Town, was really... hard to read, so Rovi only took a polite glance at it after receiving it before putting it aside.
The reason why Rovin could do so was that Sutrain, the butler of Lord Nelson who came to deliver the invitation letter, had tactfully told him the content of the invitation letter before delivering it.
To put it simply, Lord Nelson, the ruler of Aslata town, was deeply disturbed when he heard that the noble wizard Mr. Rovi had quietly visited his town, so he decided to invite Rovi to a dinner party at sunset today and wrote an invitation letter in person to show his sincerity, and sent it over with his butler Sutrein.
"Please inform Lord Nelson that I will be punctual for our appointment."
Luo Wei replied with an ambiguous tone.
"Respected Mr. Lovett, in order to have a sufficiently sumptuous spread for tonight's dinner party, my master Lord Nelson has already gone out of town with his retinue to hunt, so I had to come personally to deliver this invitation."
Lord Nelson's steward, Southey, hastened to add, as if he hoped Rove would overlook the fact that Lord Nelson had not come in person with the invitation.
Luoyi naturally understood this situation, anyway, it's all about eating and drinking for free, so just follow the host.
Refuse?
Why refuse?
Although a baron is the lowest rank of nobility, at least Rowen felt that by attending this dinner party, he could learn about the basic rules of the game between the upper echelons of this other world.
Know yourself and know your enemy, then you can live longer. Luo Wei will eventually become a zombie anyway.
Just a few minutes after Suter left, Rove's door was knocked again, but this time the knocker didn't announce himself.
"Please come in."
Luo Wei responded with a sound, while Felicia hastily got up and opened the door.
"What's with you guys?"
After seeing the visitors clearly, Felicia said something very rude, because the people outside the door were her aunt and uncle, who were trying their best to show a kind smile.
"Felicia, trouble them outside the door, if they don't want to inexplicably become zombies, then immediately disappear from my line of sight."
It was clear that Rove also saw the person outside the door, so he said this sentence with a very strong spirit of witchcraft, and then continued to eat his own breakfast which had been disturbed twice.
"Did you hear?"
Felicity straightened her back and said proudly.
The Saldin couple nodded repeatedly, their faces pale, and hastily retreated without saying a word.
For some reason, watching her aunt and uncle hastily leave, Felicia's heart was filled with a little indescribable emotion that made her feel like crying.
But Felicia didn't go after all, she just turned her back on Rovi and quietly rubbed her eyes.
Just as Felicia rubbed her eyes, she found that outside her door there was another person she didn't like - the slave trader Colenwal.
"Mr. Lovi, the wizard, please allow me to pay my respects to you, you have shown me a majestic and awe-inspiring spellcaster!" The slave trader, with a smile all over his face, bowed to Lovi through the door, but immediately changed to a worried and anxious expression: "However, I won't suddenly turn into an undead for no reason now that I've entered Mr. Lovi's line of sight, will I?"
"Miss Felicia, Mr. Colwyn is here, and he's in a humorous mood."
It's not that Lovi wouldn't hit a smiling face, let alone follow Kollin's slave trading team with the intention of slowly plotting against the black-robed woman who possessed the "Book of Gradual Death", so how could Lovi treat Kollin like he treated the Sardine couple?
"Please sit down and have something to eat?"
After Kolonwi the slave trader walked into the house, Rovi first pointed to the chair opposite him and then pointed at the sumptuous breakfast laid out on the table.
"I beg your pardon, but I dare not accept the invitation of Mr. Lovi, according to the Bilaham Code promulgated by Emperor San Drerick II of the Falcon Kingdom in 2207 of the Grey Moon Calendar, eating three meals a day is a privilege reserved for the clergy, mages, nobles and their followers, but as a commoner, I am not qualified to have breakfast."
The slave trader sitting opposite Rovi waved his hands repeatedly, firmly refusing Rovi's casual invitation.
Really?
Is being able to eat three meals a day becoming a privilege reserved for the upper class?
To be honest, this privilege granted by His Imperial Majesty King San Drako II of the Falcon Dynasty left Rovi somewhat at a loss for words.
"Mr. Colenwe, you are indeed a law-abiding citizen."
Rove nodded his head, as if in approval of the slaver Kolenweh's words, though even Rove himself didn't believe what he was saying - would a law-abiding citizen who worked for others go into the slave trade?
"If obeying the law can gain more benefits than disobeying it, then why not?"
Korvus smiled and then said something with great philosophical significance.
"This sentence is very interesting." Rove finally put down the spoon he was eating with, then looked up at the slave trader Colenwe: "Tell me, Mr. Colenwe, what's the purpose of your visit?"
"Ah, indeed you can't fool the wise Mr. Lovi! " Slave trader Colenweil clapped his hands forcefully and once again seized the opportunity to praise Lovi before asking: "Please forgive me for being presumptuous, but did the steward of Lord Nelson in this town also extend an invitation to a dinner party to you, Mr. Lovi?"
"What's wrong with this?"
Ruo Wei answered the question with a rhetorical question.
"Not at all, not at all, there's no problem whatsoever, Mr. Vilo, Lord Nelson is a true noble gentleman who conforms to the norms of nobility, only..."
The slave trader only said half of what he meant.
"What's the matter?"
To get more intelligence, Luo Wei cooperated with the slave trader's trick.
"Just... " The slave trader looked around cautiously, then lowered his voice and said: "Mr. Lovi, the wizard, I guess you don't know yet, but on the road from Aslat to Kandia, there is a gang of thieves who call themselves the 'Bloodied Blades'! This Bloodied Blades gang is extremely ruthless and never leaves anyone alive. Lord Nelson once organized an expedition against them, but the result was that two bronze-ranked knights loyal to Lord Nelson and 150 servants... all perished."
