Chapter Five: An Old Friend Appears
"Hehe, thanks to a few of you for saving me, otherwise this old bone would have been finished off here." Just then, Godwin walked over with his shoulder covered.
His injuries were quite severe, and he walked with a limp. He had lost the majestic aura of his initial appearance, and even the magic sword was not picked up in time, showing that he had suffered greatly at the hands of Grul.
"Right, I haven't introduced myself yet, my name is..." Goodwin was about to speak when a voice came over.
"Good evening, sir." It was Lona who had come over.
"Do you know me?" When Lona said her own name, Godwin was taken aback.
"I am Lona, my father has brought me to see you before." Lona said softly.
"Lorna?" Goodwin muttered, then suddenly reacted: "It's you!"
"So you're here for that creature too," Goodwin said nonchalantly.
"Yes, I and Miss have been looking for him for a long time, only to catch up with him here tonight." Lona nodded: "But didn't expect to meet you."
"Ever since the incident with King Fagan's assassination, we've been keeping an eye on this mysterious swordsman. To be honest, I was asked by my old friend Hold to investigate this matter, but that guy's strength far exceeded my imagination, and I almost fell here."
"Mr. Holder? Is he making a move too?" Lona exclaimed in surprise at the mention of the name.
"Yes, but he had something else to attend to, so he asked me to come first. It seems that this time it's not something I can handle on my own." Goodwin nodded and said.
"Lona, who is Holder?" Soya asked Lona in a low voice.
"Mr. Holder is the first of the Five Strong Swordsmen, the only one on the Veronica Continent to have the title of Sword Saint." Lona replied: "If he's willing to take action, maybe he can deal with that guy."
"That's not necessarily true." Upon hearing her words, Goodwin shook his head: "Gruul's power far exceeds our imagination. He didn't even use half of his strength to deal with me. No wonder he took down Liena with just one move..."
He glanced at Lona and changed the subject, saying: "It's really unknown how this monster appeared, and it's unknown how many more people will die at his hands." As he spoke, his eyebrows furrowed slightly, seemingly due to the pain in his shoulder.
So-ya stepped forward and said: "Mr. Godwin, let me take a look at your wound."
"It's all right, I can still hold on." Goodwin shook his head and said.
Su Ya had already placed her hand on his shoulder, and with a low hum, a soft white glow emanated from her palm.
"Hmm, you're a pastor?" Goodwin was surprised at the wound healing at a rate that could be felt.
Without another word, Soya let out a soft sigh: "Your bones are all shattered. I've done my best to put them back together, but for the time being, please rest quietly."
Goodwin knew that with such a severe injury, Soya was able to repair it in such a short time, her healing technique was quite impressive.
"Thank you so much." The old man couldn't help but say: "It's really embarrassing to say, I've accepted all of your help again tonight, I'm truly too ashamed."
"Don't be polite, you were injured while chasing after that guy, I'm just doing my part." Soya said: "Because, he is our common enemy."
Goodwin suddenly seemed to understand something: "Lona calls you Miss, are you..."
Before he could finish speaking, Soya interrupted: "My name is Soya. Actually, it was these two who really saved you tonight." She pointed to Raymond and Basstier.
"It was like that." Goodwin said to Raymond: "Forgive my rudeness, I haven't asked the names of you two yet?"
"Hah, I'm Ramon and she's Bastet." Ramon said: "We're just two mercenaries hired by Soya."
"Heh, mercenaries? Taking a closer look at Raymond, Godwin smiled with a hint of deeper meaning: "With the two of your skills, it would be a waste to become mercenaries."
"However, I have remembered both of your names, and if we meet again in the future, I will definitely repay you."
As he spoke, he took the magic sword handed over by Lona and said to several people: "So, I'm leaving."
"Are you going to continue investigating Gru's whereabouts?" Lona asked.
Goodwin nodded, and said thoughtfully: "Originally I thought he was just an ordinary killer, now it seems that's not the case. What worries me even more is that dead spirit mage, those guys who were originally only active on the Mojina continent have also arrived on the Veronika continent."
"This matter is likely to have a far more complicated inside story than we can imagine, it seems I need to consult with Holder first and then decide what to do next."
He said with a warning: "That guy is not someone you can handle, it's best if you don't make any rash moves again."
Goodwin then bid farewell to everyone and left.
After Egwene left, Suoya thanked Raymond gratefully: "I want to thank you again. If I hadn't met you tonight, Loona and I would have died because of our own carelessness."
"Haha, you're too polite, I'm also doing it for the money." Raymond said with intention.
"Is that so?" Soya looked him up and down: "Well, you're probably the strangest mercenary I've ever met. Just now it was almost a hopeless situation, but you still risked your life to save Lona. You know I only paid you a small deposit, and according to your mercenaries' rules, there's no need to do that."
Knowing that she had doubts about her own identity, Raymond couldn't help but smile wryly. Just because he remembered old things and softened his heart for a moment, now thinking back, if he really lost his life because of this, it would be worthless.
In that case, Mom will probably scold herself until she's hoarse.
"Meow, you know that's good, so just give us the rest of the money." At this time, Bastet suddenly appeared and said. Although she didn't have much concept of money, but she kept a close eye on Raymond's things.
Raimon pulled the cat-eared girl back by her ears and said, "However, I'm afraid I won't be able to continue accepting your request because that guy is not someone I can handle. What about you, are you going to keep investigating?"
Soya shook her head: "No, I learned a lot tonight. Before, I didn't understand anything and thought that taking revenge was like what's written in legends - just find the enemy and it's a simple matter. And to think that I even asked Lona to adventure with me, now thinking about it is really ridiculous."
"Miss..." Lona hesitated.
He waved his hand to signal her not to speak, and Soya continued: "Tonight's events made me realize how unrealistic my thoughts were."
As she spoke, a firm smile suddenly spread across her face: "However, I will not give up. It's a long-term plan and it will take a very long time, but one day, I will definitely kill him!"
After witnessing the extreme terror of Gru, Soya did not retreat, it seems that this seemingly naive girl actually has an extremely strong will. Perhaps under her delicate appearance, there is an unexpected side to her.
Although Raymond was curious as to why she and Lona had become enemies with Gru, he himself had a big pile of troubles to deal with now and didn't need to get involved in other people's affairs.
He said: "You understand, but that guy is really not simple, you must be more careful. So, let's say goodbye here."
"Hmm." Soya nodded: "I also wish you catch that necromancer sooner."
Lona didn't say a word, the silent girl just slightly bowed her head to Raymond in thanks.
Lemon turned to leave, but Soya suddenly called out to him: "By the way, where do you live in Orlat?"
He thought she might want to ask for his help again later, so Raymond hesitated for a moment, but remembering that he would return to Headington with the others after the king's funeral in a few days, he still reported the name of the inn where he was staying.
Afterwards, they bid farewell and left separately.
