Chapter 2: An Eggcellenct Start

Vance went to roll over and shake the morning grogginess out of his system, when he felt the world tumble around him. His whole left side felt as though it was asleep, all he could feel was a tingling. His eyes flew open but all he could see was darkness, he tried to feel around him but he could barely move as though he was inside of a container just barely larger than him. Slowly he started to remember what had happened “So this is my new body, but what's with this feeling. Ping. What was that noise? Ping. There it was again. Whatever it was Vance knew that he had to get out of wherever he was.

Vance began to push at the tight walls on all sides of him, as the tingling on his left side began to grow, he felt more and more cramped. To his right it was an elliptical softer surface with cracks throughout while on his left it was a hard cold stone resting above something softer. While feeling around he began to notice that his body felt odd, besides from the numbness on his left he could tell that his new body was very different from his old one. He had shorter arms that felt larger and harder to move. His head was larger and wider than before, his fingers felt large and cumbersome to use, and it felt as though he had something coming out of his lower back, he didn't get the same textile feedback he was used to, what he touched felt like he was touching it through a thick sheet. He knew he wasn't going to get anywhere trying to move the hard stone, so he began to strike at the cracked wall. With not much room to move, the strikes slowly started to make some headway, the hairline cracks growing larger and more numerous. The room was still slowly shrinking, the numbness still growing, now instead of an annoyance it was quickly approaching being painful. The wall was getting weaker but with less room to hit it, Vance was starting to worried so he shifted his entire weight and threw himself at the wall, with a large snap, it opened. The sun light blinded him as he fell out of his hole and began tumbling down a hill into a puddle.

After coming to a stop, he took a moment to collect himself and looked down into the puddle, what he saw froze him for several seconds. Staring back at him was a wide mouthed lizard with emerald scales built densely like an alligator, if that wasn’t strange enough its right side was made up of twisting roots and vines mirroring its left. On either side of its head was a fin, on the right, three green spines and purple webbing connecting them. On the left of his head was another fin with three green thorns and a purple plant fiber linking them. Starting on the top of his head a comb ran down his spine alternating between both scales and thorns. Resting on the side of his angular head sat two reptilian eyes mostly round slightly oblong. The one on his fleshy side had a red iris with a deep black pupil, on his plant side had an eye that looked like a dull swirl of green. Finally flowing out of his back was a long green tail ending in a seed like pointed mace.

After looking over his reflection he thought, “That’s me”, Ping. Suddenly his vision was fully taken up, making him jump back, landing on what looked to be an egg shell.

After taking a moment to read over everything that popped up, Vance was filled with new questions What was the system? What was a Spirit Embryo? Why was it merging with him? What did these stats mean? As these questions flew though his head, he heard a series of pings and a new screen popped up.

A lot of information, almost to much too take in before Vance was even able to get his bearings. He decided that he would look over the other tabs after he got somewhere safer. Looking around Vance found he was at the edge of a marsh with large trees that resembled weeping willows dotted in front of him. Behind him was the hill he came down littered with large oak trees, the burrow he fell out of, about half way up. Now seeing the soft material he broke through, was a large egg, half sticking out of the hill.

Slowly Vance began to go back towards the burrow. his plant side was still numb, and his new limbs were unfamiliar and strange to him. Slowly as he moved the numbness threaded through his new form began to dissipate and the unfamiliarity began to fade as he fell into a somewhat lopsided gait, tail swinging back and forth as he walked, helping him keep his balance. If anyone else saw this strange creature moving they would describe it as anything but graceful, a slow lumbering gait while half of it was limping, looking as though its body was half claimed by nature. Slowly he made his climb and reached the burrow, entering it this time the light shining from the newly made entrance allowed him to see what was on the other side. What was waiting there was a large boulder underneath it, many pieces from his egg and a small tree that he couldn't recognise splintered and demolished by the displaced stone.

His new body came with many new feelings he was just getting used to. His senses now sharper and more keen, he could hear the singing of birds and the chirping of insects outside. Sticking out his tongue he could smell the earth in the burrow, the sour scent of his egg and the watery scent coming from the marshes. As he was finally able to just sit and take in what had happened to him all of his stress, sadness, and fear that he had bottled up from his experience, dying, meeting gods and gaining some of their power, losing most of his memories and the fear of being crushed just after gaining a new life, came bursting through him at the same time he was struck by all of the new sensory input, then he blacked out.
