Prologue

Veering down the street was a rge SUV, its left headlight shattered while the driver erratically moved through the chaotic streets. The Veriyn, the world's human like species, inside shakily turned her radio on trying to ignore the horrifying sounds outside.

Every station pyed the same recording. She let out a frustrated groan.

“-not two weeks since The Great Bridge was bombed after the appearance of-”

Echoing screams haunted the fiery streets of Southern Pool City, concrete bckened with thin rivers of blood stretching down the incline of Nalven street, people ran in frantic huddles pushing and shoving one another in an attempt to escape the monstrous creatures that lunged after their every move.

Veriyn's of every background were mauled and torn apart in the streets by loved ones and strangers alike.

“-reports show heavy losses across the world with increasingly strange reports coming from the epicenter, Siaé Basa-”

Bodies littered with injuries and broken bones crawled forward reanimated by twisted magics, a fast running body sprinted forward throwing itself into the moving van sending its body spiraling to the pavement, flesh shredding on concrete it hit a bloody stop a few feet into the intersection.

Snarling came from Its broken jaw, teeth piercing Its own cheek. Dragging limbs scratched against the ground as it shakily rose, scrambling in a horrifying attempt to stand.

“-Percent of Edgeridge has been evacuated with citizens flocking to Northern Falls as Southern Pools' military try to keep the East side...” The head lights of her car slowly faded as the SUV, and the radio, turned off.

Dizzied, the women behind the wheel looked up, gaze bleary as blood dripped down her forehead. Through her cracked windshield she watched what horror unfolded before her, through dazed senses she saw drenched hands drag running people to the ground, chipped teeth marked with bck lines and floral bloomings.

Rancid mouths slick with sanguine and a thick green mucus devoured any living creature that managed to be caught in their stabbing nails. She watched them tear down an Orcish man before stragglers chased the man's yelping dog.

Screaming broke through the ringing in her ears, a cacophony of agony rushed into her broken driver's window.

The more they ate, the more they changed, bodies bloating with slithering green lines moving under the paled skin of what was once the popuce of Edgeridge. She gasped, her body trembled feeling her heart sm against her rib cage, scrambling she went for her keys turning the engine only for it to sputter and die like the people around her.

The people. She couldn't think of them as that, but what else could they be. Veriyn bodies, faces she knew, now horrible and corrupted. Wounds littered skin exposed by bitten clothing, she swore she saw leaves, flowers, sprout from the bloody bite marks and tears in their flesh.

The infected host began to shift towards her, road rash skin peeling from torn muscles spttered unnoticed on the ground as It lifted Its arm, broken fingers tried to form a cw as It seemed to point to her, a bellow left Its throat, wet and strangled sounding, the women screamed, mouth so agape the scab on her lip split open. Panic coursed through her veins, adrenaline forcing her aching body to move as she threw her car door open.

She nearly slipped in a pool of blood, head snapping back and forth as the sound of feral growls and choking sobs filled the air she couldn't pinpoint a safe path, everywhere sounded dangerous. She felt overwhelmed yet numb, locked knees shaking and unmoving as the world crashed around her.

She mouthed a silent scream as someone ran past her, gore hung from their pointed ear held between their fingers chased by three torn figures.

Whimpering breaths left her, chest heaving, a guttural moan caused her to snap her attention back to the front of her SUV, the creature, the thing, that, person. It came closer, smming against her hood as It hobbled to remain upright. Sliding against the vehicle It left a trail of tissue and blood as it snapped at her, snarling with flesh pierced teeth ccking the bone together hungrily, desperate to get close, desperate to rip her apart and devour her.

She froze. Staring. It fell to the ground as she finally came to her senses, snapping back into herself she turned her head only to see three more rushing her, she had barely a moment to scream before she was smmed back into the side door, cwing hands ripping fabric and flesh tearing hair and skin, teeth sinking into muscle and ripping chunks of bloody meat from her twitching form, she was dragged down to the pavement as the infected she struck crawled towards her stilling ankle.
