Chapter 112

When Conrad slept, it was a light sleep to rest and pass the time.

After all the training and spending time alone in a cave, it was starting to get boring and uncomfortable real quick.

In the end, he was not accustomed to living in such conditions.

But he still understood that having some experience living in the wilderness is still a good and valuable lesson for him.

He would need such experience in his ter missions; he believed it.

"If I am going to cry living in a just ordinary forest this much, I should let it go thinking about living in the Dark Continent at all," he made a comment within his mind as he ughed at himself.

By the final night, he no longer needed to guess.

He opened his eyes in the darkness and extinguished the small fme he had reignited briefly for warmth.

  The cave returned to silence.

"I should keep going," he muttered quietly.

"One hour ter, the exam will end. Not much time will be left to go back to the starting area."

Conrad activated a thin yer of ten and moved.

He extended En briefly, and not much time ter, he retracted it after not sensing any danger or anybody.

The only presence he had real interest in sensing was Hisoka's.

"Now that I managed to complete the third exam, there should be only two or three more left," he thought.

"I guess the fifth or sixth would be the end of it."

The Hunter Exam was hard to predict.

  Some years ended early.

  Some stretched longer.

But judging from the structure so far, endurance, survival, and acquisition, it felt like escation was coming.

The forty-eight-hour mark passed as he approached the original clearing.

  He arrived without a scratch.

Elina stood at the center of the field.

A few other proctors stood behind her at a distance.

Her eyes fell on him immediately.

She nodded, a faint grin forming.

  "Good."

"It seems like this year novices are really capable."

  Conrad inclined his head respectfully.

"May I ask how many more exams there are?"

Elina shook her head without hesitation.

  "I cannot tell you that."

Her eyes lingered on him a moment longer.

"But from what I can see, you will have no problem passing those exams at all."

Conrad had suppressed his ten to the bare minimum, so thin that even trained observers would struggle to gauge him properly.

Yet Elina was a Hunter, her being hunter meant one thing that she was a nen user also.

As it was the secret exam that people were taking after they finished the first exam.

All hunters who are official knew Nen a lot differently than ordinary people.

She could not see his output directly, but she could feel something is different with him.

A quiet pressure beneath the surface.

Like deep water hiding a current.

  Conrad gave a small nod.

  "Thank you."

More applicants began arriving not much time ter.

Most of them avoided looking at anyone at all.

  Conrad noticed Hisoka eventually.

His expression was faintly amused, as though the entire ordeal had been mild entertainment.

"I would think that he would find these exams amusing." Conrad thought as he kept on looking at the ground.

  Elina checked her watch.

  She nodded once.

"One hundred people passed the third exam."

  To one hundred now.

  Fifty gone.

"All the others who have no eggs with them are disqualified and will be sent to the city center with our team."

"Others who died… well, there is not much to say about them."

This was the Hunter Exam. Everyone accepted the risk of death and grave injury when they decided to take the exam.

"For people who are sleeping in the wilderness, our staff will find them, wake them up, and send them to the city center too."

Elina raised her phone and made a short call.

Thirty minutes ter, an airship descended.

The airship had the insignia of the Hunter Association.

  Elina turned back to them.

  "Board."

Conrad adjusted his bag slightly and walked forward with the others.

He stepped onto the airship without hesitation.

As it lifted into the sky, the grassnds shrank beneath them.

  The third exam was over.

  Conrad closed his eyes briefly.

  Two, maybe three more phases.
