Chapter 33: How a Mystic Fight

Chapter 33: How a Mystic Fight

  “You ate it?!”

Shade turned around only to see a woman in a silver dress, Ms. Silver. Shade felt like a child with his hands stuck in the cookie jar. Ms. Silver appeared next to Shade and started hitting his back in an attempt to make him cough up the spirit.

  “Spit out! Spit Out!”

“Ms. Silver, it’s fine! I have already digested it!”

  “Not funny! Spit out!”

Shade spent a whole five minutes trying to stop Ms. Silver from hitting his back while reassuring her that he was fine. He felt like a toddler whose mother found him eating something he shouldn’t.

Ms. Silver had no choice but to accept his explanation after noticing that Shade was completely fine.

  “Your blessing?”

“Yes. My blessing helps me absorb spirits without a contract.”

Shade didn’t explicitly lie, it was his blessing that just happens to be a former saint that is sentient and could help him absorb spirits. Normally, blessings are somewhat different from normal characteristics.

They are abilities outside of what the spirits and demon characteristics could offer. Blessings doesn’t follow a set rule of what they grant their user, which means that having a blessing that can offer help when contracting a spirit isn’t that surprising.

However, blessings aren’t usually sentient. The cold gaze is an anomaly that only the silver moon goddess and Shade would know anything about.

Shade and the silver clothed saintess exited the spirit world. The saintess continued to observe Shade as she followed him to the training platform.

  “Practice?”

“Yes, I want to finally get used to my spirit characteristics and the use of them in combat.”

For some reason, Shade has somehow managed to understand Ms. Silver even though she usually speak with less than four words at the time.

Ms. Silver looked at the purple caped man in front of her. She felt that he was somehow different from before. As if his personality has changed.

From her perspective, his demeanour had completely changed. The way he stood, the way he moved his body, and the expressions he made were different.

The way he acted felt much more natural compared to how he was before. Ms. Silver liked this change, but she started fearing that he has lost control of himself again.

  “Ms. Silver?”

  “What?”

Ms. Silver had been in her own little world. Thinking about the change in Shade while Shade was asking her a question and trying to catch her attention.

“Are you alright? Did you get hurt on the raid?”

Ms. Silver thought for a moment, she shook her head and then looked at Shade with a piercing gaze. Shade understood that she wanted to know what he had to say.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

“Could you help me with combat training? I plan on using my divination and illusion characteristics.”

  “Sure.”

Ms. Silver answered quickly. She actually had things to do, but she decided that observing Shade’s change in demeanour was much more important.

Shade thanked Ms. Silver and looked for a certain type of weapon. He saw the spears, the shields, the knives, and lastly the weapon he was looking for.

He picked up a training sword and swung it in a horizontal motion. Ms. Silver noticed something off with Shade’s movements when he picked up the sword. He swung the sword in a perfect arc.

She decided to ignore it for now. Ms. Silver picked up a training sword as well.

  “Should we begin?”

Ms. Silver nodded and shifted her body into a ready stance. Shade took out a coin and placed in his hand currently not holding the sword.

Shade tossed the coin and let it fall into his hand. He smiled as he looked at the coin. He then held his sword with both hands while his coin was still in his hand.

Shade took strides forward and attacked Ms. Silver with his sword. Ms. Silver blocked Shade’s attack with ease.

As she was a saintess and Shade was a mystic with no more than 6 spirit characteristics, she barely felt Shade’s attack.

Shade took a small step back and tossed the coin in his hand behind his back. The coin flew further up into the air than one would normally toss a coin.

While the coin was flying up, Shade took a step forward and attacked Ms. Silver for the second time. As expected, she blocked his attack with absolute ease.

Ms. Silver felt like she was fighting a child but her experience in the mystical world warned her that Shade was up to something.

She remembered Shade’s words and allowed her mind to think while her body moved to protect itself by instinct… Is he using his coin for divination? Or is it for something else?

Shade caught the coin as he stepped back after a failed third attack. As he looked at the coin his stressed expression changed into a smile.

As she saw his reaction to the coin divination, Ms. Silver attacked Shade while holding back. She lowered her strength and speed to match his.

Shade blocked her sword with amateurish movements. Ms. Silver watched Shade’s expression change into irritation… Did I interrupt his plans?

Shade took a step to the side and then tossed the coin in his hand. Ms. Silver followed Shade and attacked for a second time.

At that moment, Shade’s expression turned confident while Ms. Silver’s expression remained the same… Mr. Magician what are you planning? What if?

Ms. Silver’s gaze shifted to Shade’s coin that was currently falling from the air.

Ms. Silver’s spirituality suddenly surged. She used Shade’s body as a springboard and jumped up into the air towards the coin.

She was about to slash the coin with her sword when she noticed something off with the amount of strength she had used. Ms. Silver turned mid-air and looked at Shade.

Shade’s body turned illusionary, it was merely an illusion. Shade had slowly created an illusion of himself and used the coin to divinate if Ms. Silver had noticed.

Ms. Silver stared thinking about what had gone wrong and how she got tricked by an illusion… He has at least one anti-divination characteristic. The spirit he got a couple of minutes ago could have had another one. Then there is that thing around his neck.

Ms. Silver looked at the crystal monocle pendant around Shade’s neck. It had a glimmering light around it, as if it was showing off.

“Mr. Magician. You did well. I lost.”

Shade looked at the saintess with surprise. He didn’t expect her to be that fast with admitting defeat. He didn’t even expect that there would be a winner and a loser in training.

The cold gaze within him spoke up… That girl is a saintess. Which means that she has at least 50 characteristics. For you to be able to trick her, even for a moment, could be called her loss.

Shade listened intently as one of the voices in his head was speaking, Judgement… Before I forget, why were you showing such shoddy swordsmanship? You should have no trouble matching that silver girl’s swordsmanship because of me.

The nefarious smile decided to interrupt… I think I know what he is doing. He’s trying to not bring any more attention to himself than absolutely necessary. What do you think would happen if he shows unparalleled swordsmanship after having lost control?

The cold gaze remained quiet for a small moment before speaking… I see, I shouldn’t had called you out on it during your fight then. I apologize.

After bidding his farewells to Ms. Silver, Shade made his way to Rouge’s office. Ms. Silver was standing still, watching Shade walk away and disappear from her sight.

She thought about what she saw… How did he use divination and illusions that well? It hasn’t even been a month since he joined.
