Chapter Fourteen: The Grand Success
Su Bing was still an apprentice and was shocked by Su Xiaofan's behavior, standing there completely forgetting to react.
Yu Xiaoxi's puzzled voice came out: "When did Xiao Fan learn those?"
Su Bing heard the voice and shook his head woodenly: "You don't know, how would I know?"
Yu Xiaoxi nodded: "Indeed it is."
Xiao Yi Mo was different from them, he didn't know what Su Xiao Fan was like before, all the information he knew was told by others. However, at this moment, his gaze couldn't move away from that smiling person, busy and confident, she emitted a fascinating glow all over her body.
Before they knew it, two hours had passed in a flurry of activity. The large round table in the center of the room was now filled to capacity. Just as everyone was about to take a short break before going to inform that everything was ready, someone came forward to urge them on.
Several men in attendant attire walked over quickly, glanced faintly at the round tables filled with dishes and asked: "Is everything ready?"
Deng Shoucai smiled and walked up, smiling with a flattering face: "Officer, it's all right."
"So, we'll move it first." The leading guard made a gesture to the people behind him, and then they slowly lifted the round table away. Deng Shou carefully followed behind them.
"I'm hungry." Su Xiaofan was exhausted and leaned back on a stool, wiping the fine sweat from his forehead.
"Come, these were made extra just now, you few eat first." The slightly stout middle-aged cook was named Ji Yun. After the two head chefs in the building left, he was considered the most senior and skilled chef in the restaurant.
Su Xiaofan also didn't stand on ceremony and waved at Xiao Yimeng and Yu Xiaoxi, saying: "Aren't we all going to eat together?"
Ji Yun swept his eyes over the crowd, seeing that everyone was as anxious as he was, probably worried about the outcome later, and didn't have an appetite: "No need, you few go ahead and eat first, Su Bing, take care of it."
"Good." Upon receiving Ji Yun's command, Su Bing stepped forward and poured tea for Su Xiao Fan.
"Come." Su Xiao Fan was starving, but he didn't eat first. Instead, he took the bowl in front of Xiao Yi Mo and filled it with several dishes before starting to eat.
"I'll get it myself." Xiao Ye said calmly and unhurriedly, picking up his chopsticks to start eating.
Yu Xiaoxi sat beside Xiao Yimò, looked at him with a scolding gaze and said: "You're really an unwell-behaved child. When someone serves you dishes, you should say thank you."
"Hmph!" Xiao Yimeng coldly snorted and directly ignored her words.
"Alright, Xiao Xi, he's still a kid." Su Xiaofan tasted the dishes on the table one by one, nodding his head in satisfaction. It seemed that the chefs of this restaurant were quite skilled, able to cook so well after being told the method just once.
"Xiao Fan, you're spoiling him too much. When he grows up, he'll definitely bully you." Yu Xiao Xi shook her head, with a look of helplessness on her face, but at the same time, she was gazing excitedly at the delicious food in front of her, which was a rare sight for someone from a poor family like hers. She had never seen so many delicacies before, and today she had the chance to try them, making her wonder if this wasn't just a dream.
Su Xiaofan occasionally added dishes for Xiao Yimeng, smiling faintly and responding: "It doesn't matter, he's just a child now."
Xiao Yi Mo busily solved the unfinished food in his bowl, using his eyes to express his protest against Su Xiao Fan's words. Those bright and clear eyes seemed to be saying 'don't treat me like a child'.
"This child is really born to be handsome, is he your younger brother?" Ji Yun stood opposite Xiao Yi Mo, such a delicate and beautiful little doll was rarely seen, at first glance it looked like the child of a wealthy family, but followed by Su Xiao Fan who wore tattered clothes.
"Not really." Su Xiao Fan smiled at him and didn't give a detailed explanation.
Just then, Deng Shoucai rushed over panting and hastily pulled Su Xiaofan's hand to leave.
Su Xiaofan hadn't even had time to put down the chopsticks in her hand, and asked in confusion: "Boss, what's going on?"
Deng Shoucai didn't answer either and simply pulled her along as he walked.
"You eat first, I'll go take a look." Su Bing put down his chopsticks and hastily followed.
Before she knew it, they had arrived at a luxuriously decorated pavilion with heavily guarded gates. As Su Xiaofan was looking around, Deng Shoucai suddenly knelt down and said to the pavilion, "Prince Qing, I have brought the person here."
Having said that, he saw Su Xiaofan still standing there, and anxiously stretched out his hand to pull her down, kneeling side by side with himself.
Su Xiaofan frowned in discontent, but didn't react obviously. To be honest, since birth, she had never really knelt down to anyone before, and it felt extremely strange.
Inside the pavilion, a man in magnificent attire saw the woman with raven-black hair but tattered clothes kneeling beside Deng Shoucai and furrowed his brow imperceptibly. How could someone who cooked such delicious food be so down on their luck?
"Look up."
A cold voice came from the pavilion, Su Xiaofan guessed that it might be directed at herself, and raised her eyes in confusion, only to collide with a pair of deep and profound eyes, like a dark abyss. The owner of those eyes had an extraordinary handsome face, but his eyebrows and eyes revealed a chilling coldness.
"Is this table made by you?" Upper official Qing Bo's thin lips opened, and he casually threw out a sentence.
"It wasn't me who did it, I just told them the method of making it." Su Xiaofan continued to stare at him fearlessly, clearly a rare handsome guy, why was he wearing a cold face? This should be the king that they mentioned, a dignified king, why would he suddenly come to this small place called Mochen City?
"Can you point out others' culinary skills as being extraordinary, but if you were to do it yourself, can you make these dishes even more delicious?" Director Gao's gaze at Su Xiaofan had a hint of inquiry, and it was rare for ordinary people to be able to look directly at him like she did.
"I'm slightly skilled in cooking, I've done it more times than them, so naturally I'll be better at it." Su Xiao Fan was indeed skilled in cooking, but he had always been humble and never thought himself to be much better than other cooks. He just loved good food a bit more than those other chefs.
Shangguan Qing slightly raised an eyebrow, "Familiar with it?" Although she had only tasted a few of the dishes on the table, the flavor was indeed not bad, even surpassing the imperial kitchen in the palace. Yet she said "familiar with it", was it humility or intentional?
Su Xiaofan hooked her lips and smiled slightly: "Yes, I do understand a little. There are many people in the world who have excellent culinary skills. I'm just one of them, a small role that is insignificant."
