Chapter 24 Never Grow Up

  Chapter Twenty-Four Never Grow Up

"It will indeed get better after a while." As he said this, Su Xiao Fan suddenly realized that he had never gone to see the true appearance of the Buddha. After coming here, every day was busy with all sorts of things, and he had forgotten about this most important matter.

But in memory, it seems like there was no copper mirror at home or something.

There was no clue about his appearance in his mind either. Did the original Su Xiaofan never look at his own face since childhood?

Although Jia was around thirty years old, she had not taken good care of herself due to the hardships in her life, and her facial skin was not very good, with some wrinkles. However, from the outline of her features, one could still roughly make out her youthful beauty, so this body probably wouldn't be ugly either.

"What's wrong? Why are you dazing off, let's go." Yu Xiaoxi walked a few steps, turned her head back and saw Su Xiaofan still standing there in a daze.

"Ah, here we go." Su Xiao Fan finally took a step forward and followed, walking to Xiao Yi Mo's side and habitually holding his soft little hand.

After coming down the mountain, they parted ways, and Yu Xiaoxi said she was going home to bring over that chicken.

Su Xiaofan entered the courtyard and saw Ye Shi sitting at a table eating.

A few steps inside, after putting down what's in her hand, she asked: "Grandma, where is Mother?"

"Just had some porridge and fell asleep." Ye Shi glanced at the eggs in Su Xiaofan's hand, asking: "Picked up from the mountain?"

"Yes." Su Xiao Fan put a few stalks of rabbit grass into the little rabbit's nest.

"The eggs in the bowl in the kitchen were picked up this morning, the ones you bought are for tomorrow. Do you want me to cook one for young master tomorrow morning?" Ye Shi asked as she walked by Su Xiaofan's side with an empty bowl.

Su Xiaofan put away the things, stood up and prepared to carry the wild vegetables into dinner: "No need, leave it for mother to eat during her confinement."

Ye's face was apologetic as he looked at Xiao Yimeng: "The family conditions are not good, and it's a bit of a hardship for Young Master."

Xiao Yimeng's expression was calm and indifferent, neither affirming nor denying her words.

In the middle of the night, Su Xiaofan, who was fast asleep, vaguely heard some movements. She frowned and got out of bed, opening her door to see Ye Shi opening the door to the main room, preparing to go out.

"Grandma, where are you going at this late hour?" Su Xiaofan ran over and asked aloud as she stood beside her.

"Your mother is about to give birth, I'll go call the midwife." After opening the door, Ye Shi turned back to Su Xiaofan and said: "You stay here and take care of your mother."

"Good." Su Xiao Fan nodded vaguely and looked out at the dark night, asking anxiously: "Grandma, can you see?"

Ye ran forward quickly and replied: "Grandma is used to it, you can see that, go in and accompany your mother."

Su Xiaofan had originally planned to go herself, but after thinking about it, she realized that she didn't know where the midwife lived, and outside was pitch black, making her feel a chill for no reason. It's worth noting that in the past, Su Xiaofan wasn't afraid of anything except for ghosts and monsters that might or might not exist.

"Mother, what's wrong?" Entering the Jia family room, under the dim firelight, Su Xiaofan saw Mrs. Jia curled up on the bed, her eyebrows furrowed into a ball, and her body trembling slightly.

"Uh...it's okay." Jia tried hard to smile at her, but it was in vain. The waves of pain that kept coming made her face contort involuntarily, and tears fell uncontrollably from the corners of her tightly closed eyes.

"Daughter, bear with it for a bit, I'll go boil some hot water first. If you need anything, just call out to me loudly." Su Xiaofan stood in front of the bed, looking at her like that, feeling as if he was in pain himself, his whole heart was twisted up, but he couldn't do anything to help, and all he wanted to do was walk over and hug her so they could cry together.

Jia was tormented by pain repeatedly and had no energy to respond, could only nod, but also didn't know if Su Xiaofan could see it.

Su Xiaofan walked out of the room and saw Xiao Yimeng rubbing her sleepy eyes walking out of her own room, immediately softly approached and asked: "Did I wake you up?"

Xiao Yi Mo heard a thick nasal tone in her voice, as if she had just cried. He looked up with a puzzled expression and under the dim light, he could faintly see that her eyes were slightly red-rimmed. He immediately furrowed his brow and asked: "Why are you crying?"

"Cried?" Su Xiao Fan raised her hand and touched her cheek, muttering: "I didn't cry."

"A face that's about to cry." Xiao Yimeng's eyes flashed with a hint of unusualness, why did he have an urge to pull her into his arms?

"Hmm... this is scary, little treasure, you should never grow up, that way I'll never have to give birth again, hehe." Su Xiaofan sniffled and chased away the lingering sadness in her heart, then said to Xiao Yimeng: "You go back to sleep, it might get a bit noisy later, use your blanket to cover your ears."

Xiao Yi Mo gazed at her back as she walked towards the kitchen, his heart tangled in knots. Never to grow up?

The most tangled thing is whether I can grow up or not...

But looking at her, she seems to be really afraid of giving birth. But isn't giving birth something that every woman has to go through?

When Su Xiaofan had finished boiling the hot water, Ye Shi had already brought back a woman in her fifties.

Seeing Su Xiaofan had already boiled hot water, he said: "Xiao Fan, you go to sleep now, we'll take care of things here."

"But... " Su Xiao Fan originally wanted to say that he would also go and help out, but didn't know what he could actually do to assist.

"Alright, go to sleep." Ye Shi knew she wanted to help, but it was better for the young mistress not to get involved in these matters, besides there was nothing much she could do.

Ye said, then led the midwife into the house.

Su Xiaofan walked back to her room in a daze, closed the door behind her, and sat down on the edge of the bed, staring blankly. At this time, she could already faintly hear some low moans coming from the Jia family.

"What's wrong?" Xiao Yimeng, who was originally lying on the bed, counting the stars in boredom, got up and moved to her side, asking softly.

"Hmm, why aren't you sleeping yet?" Su Xiaofan drowsily turned his head towards him.

"Can you sleep?" Xiao Yimiao raised an eyebrow and asked.

Su Xiaofan pouted: "Are you afraid too, as a man?"

Xiao Yi Mo gave her a silent, wordless glance.

"Fortunately, our little treasure is still so young, otherwise I would absolutely not sleep with you." Su Xiao Fan said calmly, her legs crossed on the bed, propping up her cheeks with both hands.

"Why?" Xiao Yimeng listened to this unfamiliar word, and vaguely felt that he could understand its meaning, but for a moment, he couldn't think of it.

"Huh, don't you understand?" Su Xiaofan rummaged through her mind for a moment, recalling the terms used in those ancient costume dramas, before continuing: "It's like that, same room and all, can you get it?"
