Chapter 16: The Head Maid!

Trixie didn't get it, if one just needed to double down into what they already were doing. Wasn't this something like... just do it again but with more gnnuuuuu?

Trixie could do that, it was how she had made the ToyBox! She had done the same thing she did with the ToyChest but used more Gnnnuuuuui!

  Yes, Trixie could see it.

The knight and mages were dumb!

  They had the dumb!

That was why they didn't do it like this even though it was this easy! Should Trixie fix them? It would be fine if she fixed them right?

"It isn't that easy of a solution," Nanny Mary said nodding at Trixie, "But you are right in part of your answer, good fish."

  Trixie wasn't a fish!

...Unless the fish was cute. Then she may be a fish, but she doubted it was cute! Trixie had only seen ugly fish! They were all slimy and made her grabbers hurt! And it was tiring! They were so scaly! And she had spent almost two days dealing with the smell! It was bad!

  She hated Fish the most!

"You see, this is the first circle average spell for Fireball." Nanny Mary said showing a weird squiggle again, Trixie didn't get how that squiggle would make a fireball, but if Nanny Mary said it, she guessed it was true. "And this is the most standard direct upgrade to Fireball, rarely anyone takes it, and most go for Fire Spear or Fire Lance. But here it is... Spiraling Fireball."

And sure enough, a bigger squiggle materialized, this one was almost two times as big as the previous one, and for some reason had more squiggles jammed into it.

"The difficulty jumps greatly from the first circle to the second," Nanny Mary carried on, "This one for example, merely adds spin and faster travel to the Fireball. It also adds a function that allows one to change the size of the projectile."

Nanny Mary then pointed at specific squiggles within the circle, as if they meant something. Silly Nanny Mary, those were squiggles! They meant nothing!

"Compared with what some people may pick, you can see why some may decide to pick Fire Spear instead," Nanny Mary said pulling a second(Or third?) squiggle, this one was as big as the second, but...

Trixie could see what was wrong here! "This one is more different!" She raised her handsie and pointed at the squiggle!

"Exactly," Nanny Mary said nodding proudly at Trixie's incredible deductive prowess, "The Spiral Fireball magic circle uses many of the foundations of the first circle, this one is closer to a 1.5 Circle rather than a Second Circle."

Trixie knew it, they were cheating!

"So most people decide to create a new Variant spell instead, and that is how we get Fire Spear as a second circle spell." Nanny Mary dismissed all the squiggles she had shown, "I for one was taught using a different methodology."

A different metapod? What is a metapod? A pod made out of meta?

"This is something I don't usually use as example," Nanny Mary said snapping her fingers and creating a weird... feeling around them, Trixie felt as if the connection to her Toychest and Toybox had almost snapped, but she was able to keep the connection in place.

She did notice that the sound was... weird, Trixie got the feeling that it was as if the sound of the birdies was coming distorted for some reason that she couldn't get, and it was annoying her.

"For now the people around will not notice that we aren't making sound to them," Nanny Mary said turning to Trixie, "Sorry about that, but this will be the most important teaching lesson that I can give you. Never reveal your foundational circle spells."

"Trixie's foundations?" Trixie asked tilting her head to the side ever so slowly, "What's that?"

Trixie didn't have foundations, Papa had said that she was still too little to use makeup, she had asked!

"The base of your power as a mage," Nanny Mary said, "Unless you are sure you can defeat all your enemies beyond any doubt... or unless you become too much of a hassle to deal with."

The second one didn't sound like what a refined lady of high society would say... Trixie would remember to use that the next time someone wanted to scold her!

"The first circle I created, the original one anyway," Nanny Mary said pointing with her finger to a napkin on their picnic, "Was Telekinesis."

There a squiggle was drawn on the napkin.

"Then when I moved to the second circle, the first thing I did was remake the first one." Nanny Mary said as the squiggle got redrawn, "This time I remade it so it was a better first spell, more refined, it wasted less mana per casting and integrated it better to my second spell circle. Which was Force Barrier."

Then, besides the first napkin, a second napkin was drawn into, only this time the squiggles were smaller and, honestly, to Trixie it looked like someone had attempted to paint the inner part of the circle instead of writing something to design a spell.

"Then when I was moving to third circle I did the same to my second circle." Nanny Mary said as the original second squiggle got erased and... she drew a circle, a very thick circle. "I carried on like that all the way to my current circle. Each time refining the previous circles instead of moving forward."

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

That sounded tiring, and boring, Nanny Mary was boring!

"So, whatever skill or spell you have here..." Nanny Mary said pointing around them, "Never reveal how it works or what it does."

"But the cheaters still cheat Trixie!" Trixie said puffing her cheeks, "The Green cheating bad person cheated Trixie and he didn't know how the ToyBox and ToyChest worked!"

And Trixie was still mad about that, cheating was not coolz!

"There are ways to defeat or block an enemy circle even if you don't know what they are or how they work." Nanny Mary said snapping her fingies and returning the air around them to normal, "They probably used the standard ways to deal with contractual powers. Which will be the second lesson for today."

  Contractional powers? Powers that... contracted?

"Contractional spells are a subtype of Circle magic that is focused on a promise and a penalty." Nanny Mary said moving a napkin in front of a cup of Tea, "You make a promise 'So long liquid from this Tea cup is not drank, no liquid shall spill' and add a bonus of some kind, some positive effect."

Then Nanny Mary poured some of that weird mystical energy she had showcased before. Gnnuuu.... looking at it from this point of view, wasn't this what the cheaters had done?

"And so long as I don't drink from this cup, nothing will happen if I do this." Nanny Mary picked the cup and put it pointing down, but no liquid spilled from it, truly, what one could expect from a witch. "Not a witch, a mage, or well, a Sorceress in this case."

You can't deceive Trixie, you witch!

"How can Trixie do that?" Trixie said with sparkles in her eyes, "And if you can't spill the contents, how are you going to drink it later?"

That was what confused Trixie the most; she knew better than anyone that to drink, you needed to spill the contents into your mouth after all.

"Good catch," Nanny Mary said, nodding proudly (again) at Trixie's mystical deduction abilities, "The promise was made wrong, you can't drink this normally, because of that inability to pour liquid into your mouth, you will need one of these."

Nanny Mary said as she pulled a straw from her purse, "And so, I can drink from this cup of tea," Nanny Mary said taking a sip from the straw, "And since the contents are consumed, the spell no longer works."

And to exemplify this, she poured some of that Tea into the ground beside them, or well, somewhat far away from Trixie and Nanny Mary, but still near that Trixie could see the liquid fall into the ground.

"That was a promise made, with a positive effect and a way to break it." Nanny Mary turned to Trixie, "Can you imagine what could have happened if the promise was not made with thoughts about how to break it? If I didn't have a straw to drink the Tea, your cup would have never been able to be used for anything else. Ever." Nanny Mary seemed to want to ensure that Trixie got that bit of information. But she already knew it!

She had seen firsthand how that worked! But she hadn't seen any of the Knights of White or Papa do this though? Wonder why?

  Was something only Witchs-

  "Sorceress."

Was it something only Sorceresses could do?

"But that sounds stupid." Trixie ended up saying, "Why would you want a Tea cup where you can't drink from?"

"You are missing the point here," Nanny Mary said sighing, "The point here was that usually to achieve this you would need a barrier spell, a water control spell and very fine mana manipulation to pull this off."

  So many?

"And if we use the contractual promise and vow approach, you only need one spell." Nanny Mary said showing the base of the Tea cup, there it was a different squiggle drawn upon the base, "This way you only need the one for the example."

It was still stupid, they were stupid, why didn't they ask the Tea cup to not spill the Tea? Trixie did that with her toy box, and it worked just fine! Couldn't she say that? No wait, she said to never reveal their circle... But Trixie didn't have one of those.

"Why are you teaching Trixie this?" Trixie decided to ask instead.

"Took you long enough, thought we would be at dinner when you asked it." Nanny Mary said smiling at Trixie, "To be honest, part of the reason why your father asked for me was so I could teach you Magic."

So Nanny Mary was a teacher of magic?

"Then you are doing it wrong!" Trixie said laughing, "All the teachers of magic that Trixie knows have done the same, and it wasn't this!"

She didn't like those teachers, they all made Trixie sad, she didn't like them, and not a single one of them listened to Trixie! She got the hurts for weeks and couldn't use the broom right whenever that happened!

So that meant that she couldn't eat her lunch! She got hungy too many days because of them!

"And how did they taught you magic?" Nanny Mary said interested, "As far as I your father said, you haven't magic education yet. Did he lie?"

"They weren't Trixie's teachers," Trixie said shaking her head, Papa would never lie, "They were there for Shiori-sama."

Trixie was there because Shiori-sama wanted her to be there. She was good with Trixie, she wanted Trixie's hidden ToyChest to be better and had assumed that those classes would help.

They didn't, mostly because Trixie got used as an example and sometimes a target practice dummy. All those teachers got what they deserved for bullying Trixie, so that was good in the end!

"Shiori...sama?" Nanny Mary said confused, "Why sama? Was this Shiori someone from Japan? I was not aware there was japanese people within the White compound, if I was told that I would have brought complimentary gifts."

"Shiori-sama is no longer here, she told Trixie that she and her family were going away!" Trixie said helpfully, "And most of the yellow peeps are gone too, at least Trixie hasn't seen them."

And the Toychest and ToyBox couldn't find them, she had looked! Well... not all of them anyway. She got hold of most of the bad teachers that had bullied her. Because of that she hadn't managed to check on Shiori-sama.

"And you call her Sama because...?" Nanny Mary asked, "As far as I know, that is the word used to showcase respect isn't it?"

  It was?

"Trixie doesn't know, but if she didn't call her with that Sama, she got scolded by the head maid!" Trixie didn't want to get scolded, the Head Maid was too powerful! She always knew when Trixie was slacking off and had full control over the refrigerator and the snacks!

If not for Trixie being friends with Shiori-sama, then she would never get candies! Trixie wasn't even sure how the Head Maid did that! It helped her because she had based some of the search functions within the Toychest on what the headmaid had taught her to find the dirty, so it was useful... Sometimes Trixie even missed the head maid (Not when it was time to clean or eat the veggies tho)

"Hmm... I see..." Nanny Mary hummed the answer, "Well, I'll need to check about that. I do wonder what kind of head maid the white family has that can scold the heiress."

"No no, we don't have one of those." Trixie said shaking her head, "We have cleaners and janitors, but having maids is for rich peeps, we are a normal family."

They did have a few people cleaning here and there now that they had more money. But that was because Papa had said that as soon as they got some money, they would hire a cleaner to help them with their things, so now that Papa had the full power of the White in the open, they could afford to do that.

But they didn't have a head maid. That was for rich peeps.

"... I see... Well, each family does things at their own pace I guess." Nanny Mary said shrugging, "I think your family can afford a head maid and will speak about that with your father later."

  They could?!?!!??

"A mansion this big and no head maid to manage... The workers must be overworked." Nanny Mary said shaking her head, "Part of my duties are ensuring you are cared for, and a head maid would help with that."

"But... But..." Trixie said hugging herself, "My candies..."

"They will not take your candies, they will work for you." Nanny Mary said, "The only one that can take your candies is your Nanny or your caretaker, in this case both are me."

"And you will take Trixie's candies?" Trixie asked with tears in her eyes, "Trixie promises to clean her scheduled zones!"

She didn't know if those zones still existed, she would need to ask the new head maid... She knew it was bound to happen, but she was smarter now! She had a bigger ToyChest too! She could hide more candies than before!

"You are the daughter of the house," Nanny Mary said placing a hand atop Trixie's head, "You are to be pampered and raised right, you don't have to clean or do anything. And if a maid (Head maid or not) asks you or scolds you without reason, you tell me or your father."

  ...She was?

"Yes," Nanny Mary said nodding at Trixie, "So let's go, you have to show me the house so I can plan your classes."

Trixie could do that! She knew this mansion better than anyone! She had drawn it herself when she and Shiori-sama were playing about their dream house!
