{Chapter - 17} I made it! An exploration of a Border City next time :]

  Feyre

It was a pretty decent sleep. As decent as one could get while a good way up a tree and in its branches, I assured myself. I gracefully hopped down with all the elegance of a one legged snake. That is to say, I fell off my branch and somehow landed upright and didn't hurt myself too bad other than the slight lingering of the impact in my knees. I hoped that it wasn't a precursor to something and that eventually my idiocy would wear off.

I wanted a bath. This wasn't technically a new thought, but since I was trying to put off the decision for that Reward, I wanted a bath. I missed coming home from work and just loading up a bath with a mesh of different bubble bath's that even Frankenstein would be proud of. I didn't miss work that much, actually. I loved playing games and I loved the opportunity I was given by the company to try and create a game I would like to play myself. What I didn't like was the incredibly long hours, often times two or more all-nighters in a week, sometimes in a row. Hellish business, and yet when I'd been up on that stage I'd felt it was all worth it.

Alas, I could put off this Reward as much as I could put off the passage of time. Therefore, not at all. The screen refused to go away, despite my many many rude words directed at it as I stretched.

  [System]

[Reward 1: [Unique Tome] "System Tome of Magicks" Within the Tome resides every single [Spell] in existence, along with its chant and description on what it does.   [Reward 3: [Unique Skill] chosen by the system to best complement your current goal and path. The System will ask you to input your goal and the [Skill] will be tailored to it and you.]

I hmm-ed and haw-ed for a couple more minutes before sighing and just picking one of the two I knew I was likely to be able to use.

  [System]

  [Confirm Choice? Y/N]

I nodded, breathed in, and mentally pressed Y. Instantly I felt a funny tingling sensation all over my body. This sensation quickly clawed its way up my arms and legs to my torso, before condensing and launching up into my head. Searing needles must had assaulted my skull at the same time because there was no way that some stupid skill which I hadn't even given the information needed for was this painful to acquire.

  [System]

[Skill Creation: [Unique Skill] Creation in progress. What is your goal, Feyre Agrifiti?]

I raised my eyebrows. Unless it was [REDACTED], the System had never used my name before as far as I could remember. I guessed that this was a bonus of getting a unique skill or something. The only problem now was, of course, I had no idea what my goal was. Then, like a freight train, it hit me. The most enjoyable moments I had spent in this world were while I was with people or while I was looking at the scenery. I just needed to choose from one of them and make a goal out of one of them.

It took me a few seconds, after that, to come to a final decision. This was a big moment after all. I doubted there were any take backsies or the like.

"My goals is to travel the world and enjoy all of the best views it has to offer."

  [System]

[Notice: Goal Acquired. Initiating [Character Breakdown] for individual Feyre Agrifiti.]

[Upon Skill Activation: You will gain a 50% boost to all Stats for the duration of the skill (5 minutes); You will feel a greater pull to the nearest viewing spot for beautiful landscapes; If someone is stopping you from moving to get to that spot, they will be heavily debuffed; Should you be trapped inside, you gain a proportional boost the the STR stat as the strength of the weakest wall blocking your way out; Should you be unable to move in order to get to that spot, for the duration of the skill you are able to move as if you were at full health with minor repercussions; Should you already be at a beautiful spot to look at the views, you will stop feeling pain and start regenerating health and mana at a rate proportional to your enjoyment factor of the view. This Active utilisation is only able to be used once a day, or after spending half an hour at a good viewing spot just enjoying the view.]

That was... A lot of words and a lot of buffs. I could already feel intrinsically that the forest had a lot of good spots to absorb the wonders of nature. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to check out each and every one. I focused instead, on going back onto the path and continuing along it at a leisurely pace.

It would have be such a waste to wander through such an enviably beautiful forest without letting it all sink in. I thought, briefly, that perhaps I had chosen the wrong goal. Maybe I could have chosen one like, become the strongest in the world. I quickly squashed that thought as I silently enjoyed the new feeling of peace I got from being in the forest. Hopefully this wouldn't affect me adversely in bad looking places. After all I wanted to see as many views as possible, even if they were atrocious to some they must be great to someone out there.

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Onwards I strolled, only pausing briefly to breathe in the atmosphere as I got to undoubtedly brilliant spots that I could just soak up for hours if I let my new skill take control. This did kind of confirm, again, that the System could change how I thought. Sure, previously I thoroughly enjoyed the views, but I wouldn't have been quite so enamoured I don't think.

When had I become quite so... ditzy? I wasn't sure. Everything melded together at some point or another and even though it had been barely over a week since I had first met people it felt like years and years ago now. Not that it mattered anymore, since soon I was to be confronted with what I can only assume is civilisation nearest to here. Wherever here may be.

I decided to put my sparkly cloak away and put on my armour and such, as to look more the part of adventurer. In addition, my acting skill told me I should rub some dirt and other things into it, if only for appearances sake. Apparently the cleaning enchantment had a handy feature of only cleaning what you want to be cleaned and not anything else.

After that short detour I got back on my way, changing my gait and posture as to more accurately portray a wandering knight who was decently skilled and had to fight to get this far. If my experiences of the forest, and my acting skill were anything to go by, this was a pretty dangerous place to try to travel through.

Which explained quite a lot about Tyrril's entourage, thinking about it. They were all powerful: Karrlund, Emrik, Pavolia, and even Lucius I guessed. I thought that if I hadn't caught him off guard when he was overconfident then he would have probably killed me quickly. Such was life in Eurani it seemed. Even the strongest man can't survive a lethal blow it seemed. Luckily for me because so far, the only humans that had cornered me wildly underestimated me.

After a while of walking I made it to the edge of the forest. It must have been around midday and I had only eaten a few morsels of food since starting my trek so was really excited to make it back into civilisation. However, there was one eensy problem. Before I could even make it out of the forest I had to first get past two rough looking gentlemen in matching brigandines with an emblem of some sort on it.

I was hoping I could just walk be when one of them saw me approaching. I had but a single hand lazily resting on the pommel of my Arming Sword, which was now in it's sheathe and on my waist, but obviously that I had one in the first place was cause for stopping me for those guards.

  Strevi

I had thought this posting would be an easy one. Usually, there was only one or two idiots who decided that the rules were beneath them. Obviously if they were coming from the other side of the forest, then it wasn't really breaking the rules.

When that Forest-Man came I was surprised, more than anything. If the tales were true, then that Faerie Queen had let him live out of pity or something. I was not one to assume the mentality of a monster that could probably remove Errol from the map with a sweep of it's hand.

So when Gert saw the woman in armour I wondered just how powerful she must be to have made it. The first thing I noticed, was her beauty. She was a real looker she was. If I were a lesser man, I would've probably been completely smitten within seconds of seeing her. Even with the leaf in her fiery hair and the scrapes of dirt and mud along her armour and under layer of protection, I could tell she was absolutely enchanting.

I think Gert was thinking along the same lines as me, because when I looked over, he was struggling to close his open gob. Errol must've been blessed or something, because this was the second adventurer (as that is what I assumed this woman was) that was absolutely drop dead gorgeous.

She approached and we gathered ourselves, using the Guardsman skill to keep proprietary.

"Good aftah-noon missus. Could ya please state yer place o' origin an' yer reason fer comin' across the Great Divide to Errol."

Gert was a good lad. A bit of a greenhorn and clearly he hadn't taken any proper speech lessons in the Academy yet. Nonetheless, the lady understood, so whatever complaints I might've had against him, were moot points. She smiled a little and took her hand off of her fancy looking sword hilt.

That made Gert visibly relax but I knew better. If she had managed to make it all the way through the Great Divide, then she didn't really need a sword to be dangerous. I awaited her reply to Gert's questions a little bit impatient after she paused. Perhaps she was thinking on whether or not she should lie to us.

"Many apologies ser, I was trying to translate my City's name into your natural tongue. I am from the Aetherium Republic, Tearan."

I squinted at the woman. I had never heard of the Aetherium Republic, and definitely not Tearan. But I had also never left Errol, so I wouldn't know all the places. My lie detecting skill didn't go off, but it did alert me that she hadn't said everything she could have. No one ever did though, so I ignored the warning.

"That must be a far away place ma'am. Is it on the other side of the Iftanian Theocracy?"

She winced, and instantly I felt kind of stupid. The Iftanian Theocracy was not a kind neighbour. They were nice enough if you accepted their religion as your own, but if you were an independent state that refused then I reckoned they were pretty brutal.

"Ah, I'm sorry for potentially bringing up a sore subject, ma'am. I assure you, while we do have the same faith, we are not the type of kingdom to go on heretic-hunts and cull the non believers. We'd have to turn on our own princess then!"

Gert snorted at that, I knew he would. She politely chuckled behind a hand. I smiled underneath the fabric of the gaiter I was using to hide as much of my facial expressions as possible. I had said it before but she was absolutely stunning. The sun caught her in all the right ways.

"Alrigh' sorry fer de furver questions bu' I nee'ta ask if yer registered wiv the Adventurers' Guild or no'."

Gert. I should turn that into an adjective meaning blunt and to the pont, even going as far as completely ignoring context clues. There was no way this woman was an adventurer. More likely to have been a knight to some Noble or equivalent from her Republic. I nodded as she gave her reply, reinforcing my predisposition to her job.

"Nay, ser. I am a wayfaring knight nowadays. I'm not a part of any organisation or order anymore, and long have I been without a crest to bear. Furthermore, I realise that I had neglected to answer your second question. I wish to offer my services on this side of the Forest, or Great Divide as you called it, to all who need my assistance. I also want to see as many sights as possible."

Not a single lie was spoken. That was the most truthful thing I'd ever been told since becoming a guard. Which was insane, thinking about it. I didn't particularly like thinking though, so I didn't do that much.

We asked her a few more security questions, such as whether she was involved with any crimes past or present that may affect our city. Not really needed when her previous answer had been so full of truth, but them's the rules.

When she finally passed us, we informed her of the fee to get into the city and she winced but nodded and continued along. I hoped for her sake, her Republic's currency was an accepted one. The guards at the gate were pretty damn tight even locking me out once, when I forgot to put my badge on. One Silver Huntress wasn't exorbitant but it certainly wasn't cheap.
