Grand Academy is a well-known school for people with a decent amount of mana to learn a proper way to use their ability. This is a magic school which teaches magic to their student. In order to enter this academy, there are 2 minimum qualifications that have to be met by the student. The first rule, the student must be around 13 – 16 and second rule student need to have a certain amount of mana in their body. What is mana? Mana is a spiritual energy that dwells within living thing in this world, by manipulating the mana some people can convert it into different shape and element. These peoples who can use mana is being known as a mage. Even in the first place, mana seems to give human many benefits, it also brings misfortune to human. Mana dwells within the living in this world thus wild animal and plants also have mana inside it. If animals and plants cannot control the flow of mana, it will turn into a demon beast and cause harm to others.

The library in magic school is as big as a palace, the amount of book and ancient note is more than a hundred copies. The student shall come here to find a book related to their interest and then learn to improve their magic. Far from other students, young men sit alone at the edge of the library. His hair is white with a blue pale pair of eyes, on top of his table stack with a different type of book and magic guide. This book-loving guy is known as Vayne Beldrik a first-year student in Grand Academy. Despite enrolling magic school, Vayne is an isolated student with the lowest amount of mana. Due to that, he is the only one who can’t properly use magic in class. In the morning, Vayne shall attend to his classroom to study about mana and magic. During lunchtime, he always spent it in the library and in the evening Vayne shall practice what he learns during the day.

The fact that Vayne cannot use magic is not going to let him down, Vayne has dedicated his study to understand mana and magic more than any student. Vayne has a good memory thus everything that he read shall be permanently saved in his brain, with this ability Vayne able to know what type of magic other student uses and can predict what kind of magic shall come next. During his reading, 2 male students approach him and take him with them, these 2 students are senior in this school. They have been using Vayne as magic practice and experiment. At a place hiding from other students, those 2 bullies start to raise their hand at the level of Vayne body and chant the magic words. The first one is trying to use water magic and the other one shall use wind magic. Vayne already knows because he can read the formula circuit that appears at the hand of those senior.
After a few shots of magic bullets, those 2 bullies feel satisfied and leave Vayne. By identifying what magic his opponent will use, Vayne able to expand his mana and use it as the counter of that magic. However, because his body just contains a tiny amount of mana, Vayne can't help but to endure the pain and take damage. Resting his body, Vayne notices that school time has finished, thus he began to lead his injured body to his house. Vayne is an orphan and extremely poor, at night he serves as a waiter at the bar in the city. The payment of his work is being used to support his life in study. Vayne has a dream to become a magic knight and serve the king in the future, but he knew that he lacks in talent and mana. Magic Knight is the highest rank of the order of knight in this kingdom, the main task of a magic knight is to terminate any deadly demon beast and protect the citizen of the kingdom.
