Chapter 7-Understanding that we cant understand

I finally managed to get off the ground and I swiftly threw an uppercut with my right hand. However Alice managed to recover from the previous attack much quicker then I expected and so was able to form a guard with her arms.

My fist collided with her guard and it pushed Alice off the ground by a little bit. Now that she was in the air and had to foothold I threw a punch with my left hand. Due to just blocking my uppercut her guard was weakened and when it collided with my left fist it fully fell apart.

She was sent flying a meter and a half away from me. I stepped forward with my left leg while lifting my right leg off the ground. I then did a roundhouse kick with my right leg. The kick was aimed at her lower body, specifically her knees, and because she couldn't recover from my attacks in time. She saw my attack coming and tried to back away so it wouldn't hit her but she couldn't do it in time. The leg her her knees which then buckled. She feel on her back and hit the ground.

I moved forward and was now standing over her.

"Looks like I win." I said.

She looked at me and pouted.

"That's only cause you used that sneak attack. You have no honor whatsoever." She stood up while speaking and crossed her arms in anger.

"Whether or not I won a fight honorably or not doesn't matter. If i was to fight Adam then I wouldn't care about having an honorable fight. I would just want to kill him." I replied.

"I understand that. I also hate Adam. He need to pay for what he did and that's why we need to find him." Alice agreed with me.

"We? Why are you assuming I'm doing it for the same reason as you? I don't want to kill Adam because of what he did. I want to kill him cause it will surely get me a reward and an opportunity to get stronger." I explained.

Alice looked at me. She had a shocked expression on her face. She couldn't believe what she had just heard.

"What? So you just want to get stronger? Is that your only goal?" She asked.

"Yes. While his betrayal is also a reason I hate him it is the opportunity to get stronger that motivates me to kill him." I explained.

"So all you care about I power?" Alice asked. She acted like she didn't know me at all despite the fact we just fought against each other.

"Power is the most important thing in the world, for better or for worse. It is what fuels conflict and war. It is what allows you to achieve your dream and crush the dreams of others. Power allows you to forge your own path forward. It is without a doubt the most important aspect of our world." I tried to get her to understand my worldview.

"I can't believe this. So you're some sort of power-seeking lunatic?" She asked.

"YOU THINK I LIKE THIS?" I screamed out suddenly.

Alice stopped talking and focused on my next words.

"You think I enjoy that this is the case? I hate it. I hate everything about it. But I can't deny it because it's the truth. I hate it cause I have to follow this belief in order to achieve anything in this world. I hate myself for being such a hypocrite. I hate Adam because he also understand this truth. He saw an opportunity to get stronger and took it without a second though. He is like me. If I was in his place I would've doe the same. I hate him because he reminds me of myself. I hate it. I hate myself."

After I was done I saw Alice's expression shift. She wasn't angry at me like she was a moment ago. She was analyzing my words and trying to understand all that I have just said.

She then opened her mouth and spoke. This time in a calm voice.

"I understand. I am truly sorry for you. I can't tell you to simply change your worldview because I know you won't be able to do that. I understand your hatred. Your hatred at the world, Adam and yourself. But no matter what you say I can't seem to be able to have the same opinion as you. Yes the world is filled with power-seeking lunatics but that makes all the nice people you meet become more special. It makes all the gorgeous places you visit stick in your mind. Yes the world isn't perfect but it's worth fighting for." She said.

I looked at her. Then I though about what she said for a moment before talking again.

"Just like you don't understand me I cannot understand you. I'm sorry."

When Alice heard me a small smile appeared on her face.

"Don't be sorry. Understanding other people is a useless effort because we aren't them. We don't think the same way and don't have the same experiences as them. Even understanding ourselves can be nearly impossible sometimes. The fact you understand yourself and hate yourself because of it shows that you are wise. You're an amazing person in my eyes. If you don't want to believe me that's fine. I can't understand you and that's fine." she said.

I had an expressionless face for a moment before a smile appeared on my face.

"Thank you for understanding me." I said.

Then I felt a pain in my stomach. I looked down and saw Alice's fist. She just hit me in the stomach and it wasn't a light punch either.

I fell to my knees and touched my stomach in pain.

"What the fuck was that for?" I asked in a raised voice.

"You idiot. My entire speech was about how we don't understand each other and now you thank me for understanding you? Were you not paying attention to a single word i said? If this was some sort of book then people would complain about the dialogue making no sense. You get it?" She explained in a slightly angry tone.

I groaned in pain for a moment because of the punch but when the pain subsided I looked at Alice.

  She looked at me.

  I chuckled.

  She chuckled.

Then we both burst into laughter over the entire ordeal.
