Chapter 12-Venturing into the Frontier

  Today was the day.

It was time to find and kill Adam.

This was the very first though I had after opening my eyes. I got up from my bed and got dressed into my battle uniform.

I opened the door of my room and walked out into the hallway. I made my way to Alice's room.

As I turned a corner I saw Alice further down the hallway. She must have went to find me after waking up.

We looked at each other and without a word being spoken we made our way to the battle grounds.

Yesterday I had told the others that we would meet up inside the battlegrounds.

And sure enough all of them were outside waiting for me and Alice.

Once we all greeted each other I began explaining our course of action.

"We will first head to the sect hall to report our expedition. Once we actually go outside we will head south."

  "Why south?" Faust asked.

"It's very simple really. Our sect is surrounded by mountains at the south but at the north is a vast forest. Everyone would expect Adam to venture into the forest due to it being easier to move around. However this is exactly what Adam wants us to think. He is most likely hiding in the mountains which serves as a diversion of sorts." I explained.

Faust, Leonard and Pheobe all though about it for a moment. They all agreed that this was a perfectly sound argument.

So with everybody on the same page we headed to the sect hall and reported that we would be venturing north.

The female receptionist jotted this down in a report and told us we were free to head out into the Frontier.

  ...

We moved swiftly through the mountain. Even though there weren't as many trees here as there were in the forest to the north this didn't mean there weren't any trees at all.

In fact there was enough trees to provide pretty good cover.

As we moved through the forest we kept our eyes peeled for any sign of Adam.

I walked with a solid pace, never slowing down or speeding up, but was still in front of the entire group.

Alice quickened her pace to catch up with me.

"What is the actual battle strategy that we're gonna use when we find Adam?" She asked me.

"Attack all at once." I replied plainly.

"That's it? No complicated plan at all?" She asked another question.

"In battle there are too many unknown variables and circumstances. Unless the enemy has been thoroughly studied a plan without sufficient preparation will most likely fail." I explained.

"Now stop talking and listen closely for any sounds that might lead us to Adam." I ordered.

  Alice didn't say another word.

  ...

After around 30 minutes of walking and searching around we know entered a part of the mountain with less trees then before. Now there were several boulders sticking out of the ground. Despite the fact that the area looked mostly barren at first glance if one looked up they would notice a wide variety of life here. Squirrels and bird moved about in the treetops. If one looked closely they could even see snakes with brown scales waiting in ambush for prey.

"Nature really is beautiful." I though inwardly.

Suddenly I heard a snapping sound.

I became alert. I turned around and looked at the ground around the feet of my companions. There were no twigs or anything that could've made such a noise.

In order to even hear the noise among all the sounds of the forest that would mean that whatever made that sound was nearby.

I looked around and saw almost nothing but trees which left so much open space that hiding became impossible.

However there was a large number of boulders sticking out of the ground to our left. They were tall and grey and we couldn't tell what was behind them.

I turned to my group and whispered.

"Pheobe you go around the right side of the boulder and I'll go around the left side. Faust you are coming with me. Leonard and Alice you will both climb on top of the boulders for a higher vantage point and provide cover from above."

They all nodded and started moving towards their position.

Faust and I moved slowly around the left side of the boulder. Our steps became as silent as a girl having a passionate time with her partner while at her parent's house.

Our breathing slowed down as we approached the other side of the boulder slowly.

I peeked out from a corner and could finally see the scene on the other side of the boulder.

It was a humanoid figure. It had no clothing on it's upper body except for bandages on it's arms.

It's body was muscular. It's hair was golden in color and reached it's shoulders. The figure was resting against the boulder

Just based on the figure's physical look I was able to determine who it was.

It was Adam. The traitor of the Moon Flower Sect.

I looked back at Faust and nodded which served as confirmation that it was Adam.

I rushed out from the corner while forming a sphere of wind in my left hand. My quick and powerful steps were heard by everyone else, including Adam who quickly turned to his left to face me.

Our eyes meet and I had no doubt in my heart that he remembered me. His eyes became filled with fighting spirit as the skin on his arms hardened and gained a rocky exterior.

I shoot out the sphere of wind at him which collided with his rocky arms but didn't do much damage.

Adam's ears then picked up a set of footsteps coming from behind him as he turned around slightly and from the corner of his eye saw Pheobe charging towards him. She swung her right arm but Adam ducked and moved away, forming distance between himself and us.

However as he moved away he became a much better target for Alice and Leonard who both fired of attacks from a distance.

Alice shot out a beam of water from her palms while Leonard fired a sphere of wind.
