The Boy

“That voice again….” Hadi mumbled, annoyed that the voice had gotten stronger than ever. He picked up his trusty stick and went out.

Lately, the voice that came from a place so alien to him grew louder for reason unbeknownst to him. Originating from the foggy horizon, he knew that the voice only brings trouble. But now that it turned into ravings, the urge to seek it out had grown stronger than ever. Perharps the madness is spreading to him.

“To go or not….” before he knew it, he arrived at the village outskirts. Staring at the guards, the two returned the stare. However, nobody truly did anything. Hadi kept walking towards the forest while the two guards continued their watch.

Diving deeper into the forest, the fog grew thicker. So thick that at some point, could no longer see anything beyond arm’s length. His nose could no longer smell anything, his ears only heard the eerie silence that ran throughout the entire place.

Looking back, Hadi wasn’t so sure about what he’s currently doing. He just walked without thinking, maybe this isn’t the best thing he could do, but he can’t turn back now that he’s this far in.

He felt closer than ever to the source, but what had been waiting for him at the end remains a mystery. He has no recollection of his past, he doesn’t even know who his parents are. He had always felt out of place even when he’s hanging around with his friends, he felt closer to the voice. That’s when he began speculating that the source has a connection to him.

Maybe the source actually has the answers he had been seeking, but could he actually make it there?

That’s when he noticed something amiss. The eerie silence had been haunting him for a while.

“Am I the only one here? Did the fog suppressed my hearing too?” Hadi stopped in his track, looking around as to find a clue on whatever is happening.

But he forgot about one thing. The fog had been obstructing his view. Even now, he can’t see anything beyond arm’s length. Stupefied by his current state, Hadi decided to keep heading deeper.

He knows very well he might as well be considered dead or missing. Maybe, in three days, some people would even hold a funeral for him. Shaking his head, he can’t help but sigh. What has he gotten himself into?

That’s when a sudden rustled broke the silence. He quickly turned his head, full of anticipation. A figure emerged, a boy wandering through the forest seemingly looking for something.

Why is there a boy out here? Hadi can’t help but question what he had just seen. The forest is known for the creatures lurking within. Monsters, mythical creatures, and other weird existences. Clearly, this is not a place for a random boy, unless….

Suddenly, the boy stopped. His head turned to Hadi, clearly aware of his presence. Hadi can’t help but feel a shiver going down his spine. He could barely see the boy yet the boy noticed him immediately.
