Chapter Nineteen: Ankara's Exam
I haven't seen Mr. Ankara for a long time, when was the last time I saw him? It was about seven days ago? The old man is always so unpredictable, sometimes even if he comes back, I don't know.
However, today when I returned to the Law Master's Tower, I saw the long-lost teacher An Ka La. He called Ti Sen to call me over, and only then did I know that Teacher An Ka La had returned.
Ankara teacher's laboratory and study are on the fourth floor of the magic tower. When I went in, Ankara teacher was lying on a recliner, enjoying reading a book on magic theory. I followed Tissen into the room, respectfully calling out "Teacher Ankara, I'm here." Then, very neatly, I stood beside Tissen by his side. I knew that my assessment was about to begin.
Ankara teacher ignored us, continuing to read his book until I felt my legs numb, before seeing Ankara teacher put down the magic book in his hand and raise his eyes to look at us.
"Not bad, both of you have a lot of patience. A good magician needs patience. Patiently reasoning out a magical principle, patiently waiting for the enemy to make a mistake, patiently studying dry magical theories... all these require great patience and also being able to endure loneliness." Up to this point, teacher Anka looked at me with an eye that had two meanings. One was that I usually appeared as an impatient guy in his eyes, and the other was that my performance today was quite good, showing the patience a magician should have.
"Alyric, your performance today has fully demonstrated that you have the basic qualities of a magician - patience. So I can conduct an initial assessment for you as a primary magician." Ankala's eyes became serious, he took out an hourglass and solemnly said to me: "From now on, you will have three quarters of an hour to prepare. When the sand in this hourglass runs out, the assessment will begin."
"But you haven't told me where the exam is and what's on it?" I asked anxiously, staring at the constantly falling sand grains.
"The examination location is just outside of Fashi Tower, and the content of the exam is: defeat Tyson." Anka teacher stroked his beard, and said with a smile.
"You want me, a mere apprentice of magic, to defeat Tissen, a mid-level magician? Master Ankara, don't you think that's too much?" I couldn't help but shout out in protest upon hearing Master Ankara's words.
"Not a bit, and the teacher even believes you can beat Tyson, go prepare quickly, time is not waiting for anyone, without sufficient preparation, it's hard to beat Tyson." Ankhara teacher didn't give in at all.
"Alright, I won't be able to defeat him in words. You want a disciple with two identities as a magician? That's going to be tough!" Anka teacher smiled and showed no pressure at all. I turned around and walked towards my room in anger, just before reaching the door, Tyson made way for me, I glanced at him and found his face expressionless, as if he had known it would turn out this way.
As I passed by Tissen, I deliberately slowed down my pace and whispered: "Liaojie wants to eat your roasted fish." I clearly saw the muscles on Tissen's face twitch slightly, and I smiled with satisfaction, continuing to walk towards the door.
But my triumph was short-lived, just as I opened the door to leave, a cold voice came from behind me: "That's two different things." Hearing this sentence, I paused for a moment, dejectedly closed the door, and sighed. Failed! The strategy of attacking his heart had no effect on someone like Tissen who was so aloof. I couldn't help but curse those two guys in the room, weren't they deliberately trying to prevent me from becoming a magician? They wanted me to defeat an intermediate-level magician, and it was such a powerful guy like Tissen, how could this be possible? And I heard that Tissen had already qualified for the advanced magician exam, this was too much!
I stormed back to my room, getting angrier by the minute. Hmph, just you wait and see, I'll definitely defeat Tyson and ruin your plans! Alright, let's get started! With that thought, my fighting spirit returned, and since defeating Tyson didn't specify how to do it, that means I can use any method I want! I couldn't help but let out a wicked laugh as I began making preparations...
About two quarters of an hour later, I appeared outside the Fa Master's Tower. Tiesen was already standing on a platform on the mountain cliff outside the tower, waiting for me with ease. The night wind blew up his wide Fa Master robe, and he seemed to be about to fly away.
I didn't walk over, I just yelled out to Tyson: "I'm ready, let's go!" and with that, I turned around and blended into the night without waiting for Tyson's response.
Tissen saw that I didn't approach him, but instead disappeared, and immediately sensed something was off. Lurking in the darkness, I clearly saw a cyan glow flashing on Tissen's body from afar. In order to guard against my sneak attack, he had cast a magical shield on himself. This was an intermediate-level magic that could effectively withstand attacks from intermediate and lower-level magics. If it were an intermediate-level magic attack, it could withstand two hits, and if it were a low-level fireball or ice arrow spell, it could almost withstand twenty hits. At the same time, this shield also had excellent defensive capabilities against physical attacks. If Tissen, with his level of magical prowess, cast this shield, it could even withstand five full-force attacks from an intermediate swordsman wielding a two-handed sword! However, this magic was not without its drawbacks - in order to maintain the shield's existence, he had to continuously supply it with magical energy.
I smiled in the dark, the biggest advantage of an intermediate magician over a primary one is that they have abundant magic power and can cast intermediate magic to attack. But if I keep harassing him in the dark and consume his magic power, then he won't be able to cast even a low-level fireball spell, let alone intermediate magic. If it really comes down to that, defeating Tissen will be easy. Anyway, teacher Ancara only told me to defeat Tissen, she didn't say I could only use magic to defeat him.
I raised the bow in my hand, drew an arrow from the quiver at my waist and nocked it on the bowstring, taking aim at Tison who was radiating a blue glow of magical shields in the distance. In the dark night, Tison was a very obvious target.
The battle has begun. If I defeat Tyson, I can become an official magician. I released the bowstring, and the arrow flew towards Tyson with a sharp whistle...
