Chapter Eighty Bad News
I stood once again on the dock of Adrian, still those familiar streets, still those unfamiliar crowds. I sighed and walked towards the city center with a simple backpack.
I finally left Sulina, although we still have a deep affection for each other, but it's not enough to bridge the gap between us. We are not people from the same world after all. She has her own schemes and calculations, I have my own relentless pursuit. Although we miss each other, neither of us can convince the other to follow our own trajectory.
I looked up at the sky and it seemed like it was going to rain soon, I had to find an inn to stay in quickly, otherwise I would have to sleep on the streets.
I was gazing at the shops on both sides of the street, searching for a suitable inn, when a voice called out to me from afar. I focused my eyes and saw Terry hurrying towards me from a distance, waving at me from far away: "Your Highness, Your Highness, how did you return so quickly? Is there some urgent matter that needs attending to?"
As Derrick walked up to me, I smiled at him and said, "Nothing urgent, I just left Sulina."
Terry asked in surprise, "Why? What's wrong?" Then he smiled and said carelessly, "You must have had a falling out with Her Majesty the Queen? Young people, it's normal to quarrel, I remember when I first got married, we would have a big fight every three days and a small one every two days..."
I waved my hand, interrupting him: "Alright, alright, I'm really leaving your queen majesty, I have a lot of things to do, she does too, we're not very suitable for each other."
Terry heard what I said and scratched his head awkwardly, saying "Why bother..."
I smiled, pulled out a ring that was given to me by Serina when I left last time, the ring with the kingdom's emblem on it. I handed the ring over to him and said: "By the way, would you mind helping me return this ring to Serina? Just tell her that I forgot to give it back to her when I left. Also, please help me pass a message to her, no matter what time it is, as long as she needs me, I will be by her side immediately."
Terry solemnly took the ring, bowed to me and said: "Your Highness, please be at ease. Terry will definitely deliver the ring to Her Majesty the Queen and bring back your words verbatim."
"I shook my head and said, 'Terry, I'm no longer a prince, don't call me that anymore. We're still friends, okay? I should get going, take care.' After saying that, I patted his shoulder and continued walking forward. As I passed by Terry, he bowed again and said, 'You too, take care. No matter when, as long as you need me, I'll serve you like before.'"
After leaving Terry, I suddenly felt a little empty in my heart, as if I had lost something, but I couldn't say what it was. I just walked silently like this, even forgetting to find an inn.
As I was walking with a sense of loss, a figure flew over from afar and quickly landed in front of me, blocking my way.
I came back to my senses and took a closer look, only to find that it was Evan. I smiled, about to tease him a few words, but saw his anxious expression, before I could speak, he had already pulled my hand and said to me: "Quickly, follow me!"
I followed him with a bewildered expression, asking as we walked: "Evan, what's going on? Why are you in such a hurry?"
"Evan turned back to me as he walked and said, 'No time for detailed explanations, I'll give you a brief rundown. I just received intel that the Dark Elves have launched a large-scale attack on the Moonlight Elves' village of Mortelai. The war between the two elven tribes has broken out in full force, and your elf girlfriend's village is right at the forefront. I've already sent my sister to scout ahead for news, and I'm here to inform you. Hurry over as fast as you can - if you're late, everyone in that village will likely be slaughtered.'"
When I heard Ivan's words, my heart was burning with anxiety, and I didn't listen to what Ivan said next. I directly seized a horse by the roadside, regardless of whose it was, and rode it to gallop wildly towards the forest of elves. Although I could cast faster instant movement spells, that would consume too much magic, and I feared that before I even reached my destination, I would already have fainted from exhaustion of both magic and spirit.
I rode my horse at a frantic pace, not caring about the difficulty of navigating through the dark night, nor considering the horse's stamina. I kept whipping it, hoping to reach Freya's side as soon as possible. I had already lost one loved one, and I couldn't lose this one too - that would leave me with nothing.
All the way, my mind was filled with Freya's lovely smile, and the scene of Freya feeding me food and water when I was injured. My heart had already flown to Freya's side. Freya, you must hold on, you must wait until I arrive by your side. As long as you are safe, I will immediately take you away from here, spend my whole life with you, love you dearly, until the end of my life.
The horse under me finally couldn't hold on until the end, and when we were about to reach the edge of the forest, it let out a sad whinny, lost its front hooves, and threw me off. The wind magic unfolded around me, pulling me back gently and letting me float down to the ground. As soon as my feet touched the ground, I immediately turned my head to look at the fallen horse, which was clearly exhausted, lying on the ground with white foam in its mouth, barely breathing.
I pulled hard on the reins of the horse, kicking it futilely with my feet in an attempt to get it to stand up, but all this was useless, for the horse was clearly done.
I kicked the horse again with all my might and cursed: "Damn it, this horse is useless!"
I glared around, but there was no one in sight. I lowered my head and thought for a moment, whatever, if I'm going to die, I'll die after getting to Freya's side first.
I unfolded the instant movement magic and immediately moved to a place 500 meters away. The forest limited the distance of my instant movement magic, if it was flat land, this distance would be farther. But this is already an unavoidable thing, anyway, the village here is not far from the village, I estimate that when my magic consumption is almost gone, I should be able to barely make it to the village.
As expected, when my magic was almost depleted, I had just barely made it outside the village.
But the scene before me was stunning, the originally quiet village had only ruins left, some collapsed houses were still emitting wisps of black smoke, troops of moonlight elves were busily searching for survivors everywhere, treating injured villagers.
Corpses were scattered all over the ground, blood was everywhere, and the air was filled with the smell of gunpowder and the stench of blood. The wounded villagers wailed in agony, interspersed with crying and cursing.
