Volume 5: The Great Plains Chapter 165: Giant Dragon
The next day, I walked out of the tent and Evan told me that the Vatican's team had already set off before dawn. I teased Evan: "Those cardinals still don't trust you, huh? By the way, has your Niya arrived?" Evan's face turned slightly red as he replied: "She did, I've arranged for her to rest at my place." I looked at Evan with a hint of a smile: "How is it? With a beauty by your side, aren't you happy?" Evan said somewhat helplessly: "Not really getting along with me." I lazily waved my hand and said: "Girls are like that, just coax them a bit. Go on, go on, you're not very interested in this man anyway. Go keep your little lover company, we'll be setting off soon too."
After sending Evan away, I saw Xilu and the others getting up one after another. After a busy morning, I finally saw Nia behind Evan during breakfast. Xilu warmly chatted with her, and Evan introduced us to her. The female pastor blushed as she greeted each of us, then stood silently beside Xilu. Evan tried to talk to her with a smile, but she responded indifferently, making Evan extremely embarrassed.
We slowed down a bit and started walking up the mountain. Along the way, Xiluo seemed very excited, actively trying to bring together my brother and Niya. Fuli quietly followed behind me, occasionally saying a few words to me. Dakuru and Manzhu took turns carrying the pole, and the atmosphere was very relaxed, as if we were just out for a picnic rather than going up against the legendary evil dragon.
This atmosphere wasn't broken until we walked to the middle of the mountain. A loud dragon's roar broke the silent atmosphere of the valley, and then we saw a huge shadow rising from the top of the mountain - yes, it was the shadow of a giant dragon. Two huge wings spread out, over 20-30 meters long, and brilliant magic kept striking its body, but it seemed to be completely unaffected. In mid-air, it lowered its head, and a stream of dragon's breath shot down, instantly engulfing the top of the mountain in flames.
"It's Kate Archbishop, they've made their move. Judging from the looks of it, that giant dragon is quite formidable!" Nia said with some urgency. Evan comforted her by saying: "Don't worry, your church's team is also very powerful, three Red Archbishops, if I hadn't used a sneak attack back then, in a face-to-face battle, I wouldn't have been a match for the Red Archbishops either. Don't worry, they'll be fine."
The battle on the mountain top was still ongoing, and when we were about 10 kilometers away from the summit, that giant dragon flew up again. This time it flew even higher, then dived down with a loud roar, spewing out a stream of dragon's breath. After the dragon's breath dissipated, its massive wings flapped fiercely towards the ground, and we faintly heard a chorus of screams. It was clear that many people from the Church had been killed by this giant dragon. Before we could even react, the dragon had already flown high up into the air again, with two white-robed priests clutched in its massive claws. From afar, it seemed like the two captured priests were still struggling. The dragon released its grip on them mid-air, and the two priests let out blood-curdling screams as they plummeted downwards. At that height, if not for our wind magic, they would likely have been smashed to pulp. The giant dragon didn't stop after disposing of the two priests, letting out a deafening roar before diving down towards the ground once more. The mountain top erupted into another intense battle.
Niyah seemed to be in a hurry, and couldn't care less about being reserved, she pulled Aiven's arm with all her might, pleading: "Aiven, let's go faster, help Bishop Kate and the others, our companions who came with us are kind people, they've been with me day and night, I understand them. They shouldn't die here in vain, please, just this once, help me."
Evan hesitated but said to us: "Let's hurry up and take a look, although we are in opposing positions, at this time they must be very critical, and if we can save one, it's one."
Everyone naturally gave Evan face and silently quickened their pace, soon arriving at the top of the mountain. However, when we arrived, that giant dragon was standing in the middle of a pile of corpses, looking around, with limbs scattered all over the ground, almost no one intact. The three red-robed high priests were prostrate on the ground in three directions, each with a large pool of blood under them. The remaining high-ranking pastors and temple knights had already been annihilated. Some temple knights' armor was twisted into a ball, clearly grabbed by the dragon's claws and pinched into an iron ball mixed with flesh and blood. Others had a huge hole in their chest, clearly pierced by the dragon's claws. The rest were either burned to charcoal by the dragon's breath or torn to pieces, scattered all over the ground. A team of dozens of people from the Vatican, led by three red-robed high priests, was slaughtered by the giant dragon in this short period of time.
Seeing this scene, Niya suddenly fainted, and the few of us were even more stunned, looking at each other with shocked eyes.
I couldn't help but secretly sigh, our strength is indeed stronger than Kate's, but such power against the mighty dragon is still a doomed situation. Are those old guys intentionally sending us to die? I couldn't help but suspect Losa's purpose.
At this time, the giant dragon had discovered our existence. Two huge dragon eyes stared at us fiercely, and a low roar came from its throat. Then, the giant dragon's wings suddenly spread out and flew into the sky. We had seen this posture before when we were at the foot of the mountain. Next, we all knew what would happen - that is, diving down and then breathing fire!
Ivan hugged Niya and shouted loudly: "Quickly hide! Dragon's Breath!" Then he immediately dodged behind a rock, and the rest of the people also quickly found places to hide.
I immediately pulled out the "Staff of the Gods" and opened a magical shield to protect Xilu and Freya, hiding behind a rock. We had just barely hidden when a scorching dragon's breath swept over our heads, its massive heat still palpable even from behind my magical shield.
After the dragon's breath passed, we rushed out of the rocks and looked at each other, only to find that everyone had miraculously escaped unscathed. It seemed like no one was injured, except for me, Freya, and Xilu, who all looked a bit disheveled outside of our magical shields.
Baran was enraged, raised his war hammer and charged at the giant dragon. A huge shadow of a war hammer followed Baran's attack and struck the dragon. This was the dwarves' special combat technique "Thunder God's Hammer". It was said that this one strike could create a massive crater even in a high mountain. The giant dragon stretched out its claws to block Baran's thunderous blow, but the powerful backlash sent Baran flying backward, slamming him into the muddy ground behind him. He struggled to get up, gritting his teeth and groaning, after a long time. Meanwhile, the giant dragon was also forced back half a step by this strike!
The giant dragon looked at the barbarian hammer that had fallen to the ground in surprise, then looked at its own claws, seemingly astonished that a small dwarf could possess such great power.
Taking this opportunity, I used the spiritual magic taught by Luo Sa to infinitely amplify the giant dragon's emotions. The giant dragon's eyes suddenly showed a bewildered look, and it just stared blankly, as if even forgetting to attack.
"It's now! Let's go together!" I shouted loudly, and at the same time released a huge lightning chain. The cyan-white lightning struck the giant dragon in an instant!
