Volume 5: The Great Plains Chapter 145: The Tribe
As we left the Dwarf Kingdom, our group entered the vast grasslands, where the scenery was completely different from human lands. The grasslands stretched as far as the eye could see, and the sky was an extraordinary blue. Walking for a while would reveal a lake, none of which were large, but with crystal-clear water, and occasionally we'd spot fish swimming in them. Xiluo exclaimed that she wanted to eat roasted fish, but Dakuru told us that these fish had many bones and weren't particularly tasty, otherwise the carnivorous Beastmen would have made a meal out of them long ago. That's why these fish could still swim so leisurely in the water - because they simply weren't worth eating.
Dakuru also told us that the prairie is vast, and it's rare to encounter nomadic beastmen, but once you do, they will be warmly welcomed. No matter where you go, every nomadic tribe is like this.
As expected, after walking for two days, we encountered a nomadic beastman tribe. The tribe was not very large, with only over 200 people in the entire group. The chief was a middle-aged beastman who looked around 50 years old, with rough skin and red hair tied up in a ponytail that had already begun to show white hairs. When we met him, he was helping the elderly in the tribe set up temporary tents. The tents needed to be secured, which required driving large stakes into the ground, each stake as thick as a bowl mouth, requiring huge hammers to pound them into the earth.
The chieftain held a huge hammer in his hand, raised it high and slammed it down fiercely. The stake was driven into the ground with just one hit, no need for a second strike. After he had hammered all the stakes into the ground, he threw the hammer to the ground, leaving others to do the rest of the work.
The chief turned around and saw us, smiled at us in a friendly manner, opened his mouth to reveal sharp teeth, looking very fierce but able to make people feel his kindness. The chief walked over, bowed deeply to Dakuru, and said: "Respected Shaman, welcome you and your guests to our place, I am the chief of this tribe, Sindai, don't know if I have the honor to invite you and other guests to stay with us for a few days?"
Dakuru shook his head and said: "I and these partners have more important things, we can only stay here tonight, and set off early tomorrow morning."
The chieftain Sindah nodded slightly disappointed and said, "That's a pity. Our tribe hasn't had a shaman visit for many years. I thought..."
Daku Ru said: "Don't worry, I will bless every person in your tribe. If they have any illness, they can also come to me and I will do my best to treat them."
Xinda was overjoyed and burst out laughing: "That's great, I'll arrange your accommodation right away and spread the news of your arrival to everyone!"
Xiluo asked on the side: "Dakuru, I didn't expect that your Shaman ritual still has a high status, even the chief has to pay respects to you."
Dakuru smiled and said, "The shaman's status on the grassland is very high. If a tribe encounters a shaman, it will be considered to have received the blessing of the shaman god. And we shamans will also cast spells to drive away diseases and disasters for the people of the tribe, answer questions and dispel doubts. Therefore, in our beastman tribes, we all respect and welcome the arrival of shamans."
As they spoke, Sindra had already brought over the tribe members who were ill, and Dakuru didn't rest either. He planted a totem on the ground, and instantly, vibrant life force spread out within a ten-meter radius. Some minor illnesses immediately healed on their own, while for more severe ones, Dakuru personally performed healing magic. Green light flashed continuously in his hands as he treated them. A patient who had been on the brink of death quickly recovered, and a young beastman whose finger had been cut off miraculously regrew it after being treated by Dakuru. The few of us stood by, helping Dakuru with some trivial matters while marveling at the shaman's incredible healing abilities.
A tribe of over 200 people, with dozens of them having various injuries and illnesses. Dakuru was busy to the point of being overwhelmed, so Freya also began using her Wood magic from the Spirit Tribe to treat these beastmen. Her magical abilities were stronger than Dakuru's, and the treatment effects were excellent, immediately earning the respect of the beastmen. My own Wood magic wasn't strong, but I could still help with treating some minor injuries and pains. Evan and Ciel also had their own ways of dealing with simple external wounds, while only Baran was sitting on the side looking idle.
Thanks to everyone's concerted efforts, all the patients were soon treated. Each of the beastmen who received treatment respectfully left their gifts beside us, and when we finished our work, the gifts piled up into small mountains around us. I took a glance, and most of them were meat products from wild beasts, as well as cheese made from cow and sheep milk, and some woven goods such as scarves carefully crafted by skilled female beastmen in their tribes.
Dakuru gathered the gifts, selected some handmade woven fabrics for each of us to take one and wear it on our bodies. Then he pushed the remaining gifts in front of Chief Sindah and said: "Sindah, there are too many things here, we can't carry them away, leave them behind and distribute them to the elderly in the tribe as a return gift from us."
Xinda didn't decline either, and respectfully bowed to distribute the gifts.
Daku Lu began to bless the people who had already gathered in front of us, inserting one after another totem, loudly reciting the ancient language that we couldn't understand, and then lightly touching each person's head, while the blessed people all looked exceptionally devout and excited, as if Daku Lu's blessing could protect them from peace and happiness.
Xī Lù stood by and watched, disdainfully curling her lip, saying: "Fake divine stick, no different from those guys in the Vatican, watch me expose him."
Evan hastily stopped Xilu's words and said, "Don't talk nonsense, the Shaman is the most respected person on the grassland. Whether their blessings can bring good luck or not, I don't know, but at least they can give these suffering people a glimmer of hope. With hope, people have the motivation to live on. Do you want to deprive them of even this? How cruel would that be?"
Fure nodded thoughtfully on one side, and Shiro also stopped saying things like going to expose Dakuru.
Time slipped away in an atmosphere of reverence, when suddenly Evan's face tightened, he listened carefully and said: "There are many cavalry rushing over from afar, I don't know what's going on?"
We told this situation to Sindah and Dakuru, and the two of them looked at each other and said: "At this time, there is only one possibility, that is, the bandits have come to raid!" All the beastmen's eyes immediately focused on Dakuru, including Chief Sindah, which shows how high the position of the Shamanic ritual is in the hearts of these beastmen.
"Prepare for battle!" Dakuru said without hesitation. "Take up your arms, only blood can prove the strength of a warrior!"
Xinda immediately raised the weapon in his hand and shouted: "Fight!"
All the tribal savages immediately shouted loudly: "Fight! Fight! Fight!......"
The brutal hammer also excitedly raised the war hammer in his hand and shouted together. Finally, he had something to do.
