Grubnixs fear

  Earlier

Grubnix was afraid. He was afraid of lots of things. He was afraid of Slilb. He was afraid of skeletons. He was afraid of Scruffles but most of all he was afraid of Big Chief Omba.

There was a valid reason for his fear of the Big Chief. Big Chief Omba controlled Scruffles and the other two fears were nothing compared to the Big Chief. Especially when he proved his superiority when he found Slilb and used his mace to pulverize Slilb to a fine mist.

There was a reason however that Grubnix had been afraid of Slilb and his collection.

Slilb had fought tooth and nail before he went out scoring some debilitating wounds on the Big Chief's leg and a serious wound on Scruffles flank.

The Big Chief was furious. Grubnix could remember the look on Omba's face when he ordered him to take care of Scruffles. It was pure rage. If Scruffles died then Grubnix's skull was as good as powder.

This accumulated in Grubnix facing off against the fear of approaching Scruffles while being strongly motivated by the fear of falling prey to Omba's mace.

Grubnix was trying to inch closer to Scruffles ,flinching at each growl, when he heard a gasp.

Turning toward the sound he saw the sight of two midget figures that haunted his nightmares ever sense the ambush failure. The fire breathing winged terror and the electric horror. Fear overcame Grubnix and the stress of the situation was finally too much as he squealed and ran.

Grubnix ran through the camp in a frightened daze until that is in his haste he tripped over a tent stake. The impact with the ground knocked him out of his daze and something pierced his fear addled mind.

The trial takers are in the camp. I have to go tell the Chief, Grubnix thought.

Having convinced himself that it was a good idea he rushed to Omba's tent.

Big Chief Omba was tending to his injured leg when in rushed Grubnix.

"Big Chief the midgets are in the camp." , Grubnix squealed. Big Chief Omba took one look at Grubnix and blistering, hot rage overcame him. Fury at the incompetence of his subordinates overwhelmed him. Grubnix had just enough presence of mind to realize the danger he was in and dodged out of the way of Omba's mace.

For the second time that day Grubnix was overcome by fear as he ran screaming hysterically from the tent. Running for his life he didn't stop until he was miles away from the camp.

Chief Omba didn't give chase. Instead he went to a chest behind his throne and opened it. In the chest were what was considered artifacts for goblins. A leather cuirass thick and sturdy made to protect the chest and a pair of thick leather bracers. Pulling them out he dawned then all. He then hefted his mace over his shoulder.

Time to go greet his guests. They would not be leaving. A wicked grin covered Omba's face as he made his way out of the tent. It was almost payday.
