Chapter 5: Dystocia
Jian Rong's sister walked towards the delivery room, Li Mama was stunned and couldn't help but ask: "Rong Jie, what are you going to do?"
Rong Jie turned her head and gave Li Mama a reassuring smile: "Go to Er Niang's side and take a look, see if I can help you save Er Niang."
The voice is not loud, but it's probably because everyone attaches great importance to this matter, and even the people in the courtyard are quiet.
"The Marquis's residence is indeed a place where talents emerge, even an unmarried young girl can cure illnesses that the imperial physician cannot." Due to the Old Madam's agitated emotions, the imperial physician's face instantly turned very unsightly, and he no longer showed his previous enthusiasm towards the Old Madam.
Old Lady's face also turned very ugly: "Rong sister, do you know what you are saying? How can you possibly have a way to save the second lady? Hurry back to your own courtyard and stay there, don't lose face here again."
Liu Rong didn't expect that her casual attempt to comfort Li's mother would lead to the current situation, but if she were to obediently return home, with these people's words and temperaments, it's likely that there really would be one dead body and two lives lost.
Not to mention Li's mother being good to her, but even the medical ethics of "doctors' parents' hearts" she couldn't do what she saw and not try to rescue.
Thinking so, Liu Rong didn't respond for a moment, but the whole scene cooled down, and Madame Ta's face became increasingly ugly. On the side, Mrs. Liu couldn't help but reveal a hint of a smile on her face.
"Rong Jie, what are you staring at? Hurry back home, children don't understand anything and talk nonsense. Quickly return to Zhong Yiniang's side, you've been out for a while too, lest Zhong Yiniang worries." Seeing that Liu Rong didn't respond to the madam's words, the big madam hastily spoke up to her.
She still quite likes this granddaughter, knowing what's right and wrong. If she were to be with Xuan'er in front of the nanny, it's possible that she could influence Xuan'er's temperament and prevent her from being coaxed by Liu Dainai into doing outrageous things again.
Liu Rong furrowed her brow, looked at her mother Li again who was staring blankly, took a deep breath and said to the crowd: "I want to go see Auntie Er, see how she's doing."
"Grandma, since Rong Jie wants to go see the second grandmother so much, let her go take a look. Who knows, she might really have some way to save the second grandmother and also keep our Liu family's heir." Liu Dà Nǎi suddenly changed from being strict with Liu Rong to being serious and helpful, speaking to Tai Furen as if she really had faith in Liu Rong, but in reality, Liu Dà Nǎi didn't think much of her.
No matter who, it is impossible not to know that a lady from a noble family who has never left the house and has no experience with childbirth would not be able to understand the methods of treating difficult labor that even experienced midwives and doctors cannot handle. Madame Liu was so enthusiastic about helping Liu Rong persuade Old Mistress, clearly she wanted to use this opportunity to completely destroy Old Mistress's impression of Liu Rong.
The madam's eyebrows furrowed instantly as she listened, and a hint of disgust appeared on her face at Liu Dà Niáng's attitude. This daughter-in-law was really not presentable, and now with so many outsiders around, she still dared to expose her attitude and methods towards the concubine-born daughter so blatantly.
A daughter who has not been well cared for and taught by her mother is indeed useless. In comparison, although Liu Rong is a bit awkward, she is much better than Old Lady Liu. The Zhong family is truly a noble family, their teaching of children is not something that someone like Old Lady Liu, who relies on others for support, can compare to.
It's just a pity that the Zhong family is involved in such a thing; if it weren't for this...
Liu Rong didn't know what the madam was thinking, but at the moment when Liu Dà Niáng opened her mouth to help her speak, she saw through Liu Dà Niáng's thoughts. Although she knew that Liu Dà Niáng's attempt to elevate herself would harm herself, this pit was dug by herself, and she still chose to jump in despite knowing it would be harmful to herself.
This feeling is really not likable. However, no matter what, I still have to seize this opportunity. Thinking of this, Liu Rong looked up at the old lady: "Grandmother, my favorite thing to do every day is to read some medical books. Although it may not be useful, Second Aunt has been kind to me. Rong'er asks Grandmother to let me go see Second Aunt. Even if there's no way to save her, let me make a small effort."
Old Lady Tai's expression became even more displeased at Rong'er, others were just politely comforting her, yet she actually followed along and really wanted to enter the delivery room. Is a place like the delivery room somewhere an unmarried young lady should go? Being so unaware of propriety, how did Mistress Zhong teach her?
"Mrs. Liu, since the young lady of your esteemed household is so distrustful of my judgment, let her take a look then. It's just as well that I get to see the medical skills of the young lady of your household." Dr. Shi Yu interjected from the side.
The thing that doctors detest the most is having their judgment questioned, and although Liu Rong was only a daughter of a marquis's family and not a fellow practitioner, she had already offended Shi Yu.
The old lady frowned, and instantly made up her mind: "How can this be? In the mansion, whenever someone is ill, we will invite Dr. Shi to come and diagnose, how can we not trust Dr. Shi's judgment?"
As she spoke, Lady Wang instructed Chen Mama, who was standing beside her: "Chen Mama, Rong'er is tired, hurry and take her back to rest."
Liu Rong's eyebrows furrowed tightly, she hadn't expected Old Madam to make such a choice. As Chen Mama led people over to forcibly take her away, Liu Rong couldn't help but bite her lower lip, could it be that she really couldn't intervene in Second Madam's affairs?
"It's all over! It's all over! Second mistress, second mistress is no more!" A maid rushed out of the delivery room in a panic.
Liu Rong was startled and took advantage of Chen Mama's momentary stunned state to quickly step forward: "What's wrong?"
"Second Madam, Second Madam has fainted! The midwife says that the water has broken for three hours and the child cannot be saved. Second Madam may not make it either!"
Liu Rong didn't care about what others were saying and rushed into the delivery room quickly.
Old Lady's face turned black: "Don't hurry up and take Rong sister out!"
"What's wrong with Third Miss? Has she lost her mind? How dare she be so disobedient to Old Madam!"
"I heard that Third Miss has been acting strangely since she woke up after falling into the water..."
"Offending Lady Tai like this, I'm afraid it won't end well..."
But then Liu Rong quickly entered the delivery room, saw several midwives surrounding the second lady, and was completely unresponsive. Frowning, she quickly squeezed to the front of the second lady.
"What kind of person are you? What do you want to do? The second wife is about to be no good, what do you want to do?"
Liu Rong, however, was deaf to the words and quickly opened Er Nainai's eyes, seeing her pupils rapidly constricting. She let out a breath and turned to look at the speaker: "Is there something that can be used to replenish Er Nainai's energy?"
"Want some more energy?"
"How can we continue having children without physical strength?" Liu Rong said quickly, while walking towards the second lady's lower body, stretching her hand to explore what was wrong.
Suddenly, Liu Rong's expression solidified, and she finally knew why the imperial physician was helpless. The fetus could not be delivered by conventional means in ancient times because the baby had been unable to come out all along due to being wrapped around by the umbilical cord!
