Ch 66: The First Son

The final days pass by with the undead army and elves staying within and around Kelinrask, the tension between the living humans of the city and the elves is high yet they don't dare do anything to anger the conquering necromancer. Yorun dealt with as much of it as he could the first day they arrived as they feared another invasion from the elves this time but upon learning the temporary alliance for the incoming fight against Honaril the humans of the city were a bit more appeased though most have deserted the city for other places in Yoruns territory such as Deranel leaving only the guards of the city remaining alongside the undead and elves. Yorun has stayed within the city's bounds during these days waiting the first sign of Honaril showing up, the defences of the city and the golem launchers now secured on the ground within the city as well are readied for it as well, the giant undead general stands infront of the city watching out further than anyone else can while the giant golems from Deranel lay beneath the waves. Golanier teleports to Yorun seemingly finished with his work.

  "Finally done?" Yorun asked

"Indeed, Giants have been made and they've been trained enough for the purposes we're using them for, that was done by yesterday since then I worked on the other thing you mentioned" Golanier said

  "Other thing?" Yorun asked

Golanier steps back as he opens a portal to Kragrum behind him, upon doing so Koralin flies out into the sky with hundreds of bird like beings covered in scales follow suit but then around nine giants come out one after the other heading straight for the water to join the golems in waiting. Koralin flies back landing on Yoruns shoulder.

"Seems you gave Koralin friends, now we don't need to rely on just his eyes" Yorun said as he gently brushed a finger on Koralins head

"Indeed, I suggest we have them scout ahead a bit now to see how far away our enemy is" Golanier said receiving a nod in response

Yorun quickly commands the birds to set forth and like arrows in the sky they dart off across the water to find how far Honarils fleet is.

"Shouldn't be too long till he's here so I'll go make final checks with the others" Yorun said now receiving a nod from Golanier who closes the Kragrum portal

Yorun begins to walk away towards where Norilas and Sunhale are standing with Koraz hovering nearby watching the elves as much as he is the horizon, Norilas and Sunhale clearly know but are ignoring him as they look to Yorun.

"So I can tell Golanier made his way here given the giants and fountain of bird things" Sunhale said

"Indeed, they're going to find out how long we have and I am checking in with everyone else to see how things are going in terms of preparing for it" Yorun said

"Well we've got our mages in the set places as is everyone else, they are all behind the undead as well so that they will have a far greater chance of living through this, they've also got your undead on the siege weapons as well given the fact those'll be targeted" Norilas said

"The mages both living and undead are prepared, they've got the barriers up and making weapons as well as armour stronger well at least as much as they can. Just have to hope they'll be good enough to match the imperial mages Honaril will have with him" Sunhale said

"The cities defences have been reinforced and fixed since your own take over at least as much as could be done in such a short time" Koraz said still lurking near them

Just as Koraz' input is finished a distant yet all too close booming sound of thunder and lightning cracks through the sky, Yorun immediately looks through some of the birds eyes where he sees the ships, he feels they aren't yet too far so he quickly switches to look through the giant generals eyes quickly seeing the incoming ships on the horizon.

"I see Honaril's fleet" Yorun said through the giant general who's voice was loud enough for all of them to hear

Yoruns sight snaps back into his own body as he teleports to the port calling the birds back with his telepathic commands though more lightning strikes in the distance with the thunder cracking through the sky accompanying it. As the ships begin to come into sight they see a figure fly up with lightning trailing below him and shooting towards the sky, fire erupting on the ship they were on before their voice bellows out across the water.

"Abandon Kelinrask now, show your leaders to my feet and I'll consider letting the rest of you live" Honaril shouted before launching multiple lightning bolts towards the city which dissipate on the barrier though the mages all feel the strain

Yorun takes control of the general once more.

"FIRE!" Yorun shouted through the generals mouth

Simultaneously the ballistae, archers, mages, Golem launchers and the water construct knights all begin to fire their own attacks, to the fleet at Honarils side they hear the word and the horizon and skies are filled with magic and arrows as well as the quickly approaching golems. None can see it but the smile that adorns the face of Honaril is genuine, as the barriers around the ships are quickly forced to be reinforced around the front and top of the ships straining the imperial mages due to the immediate onslaught of many different attacks forcing them to adapt the barriers to compensate. Honaril uses his lightning to destroy as much of the incoming attacks as possible yet he as well as others don't notice what lays beneath their ships until the giants bust up out of the water between the ships grabbing them from below and shaking them forcing all the soldiers on the ships decks into the water, the giants then quickly send the ships towards Kelinrask like children playing with toy boats. The giants quickly try to eliminate more ships in a similar manner yet it takes only seconds for them to attract the attention of Honaril.

"Giants? No, more than that, its that dead raiser. I knew the elves couldn't have such a force especially given who apparently took Kelinrask" Honaril said with a smirk

Within a moment blitzing at the speed of his own lightning through one giant exploding a hole through them with a blast of lightning from within Honaril quickly does it to the rest of the giants then the Deranel Golems who rose just moments after the giants, their arms designed more for attacking they destroyed the ships they attacks putting holes through the hull of the ships. Honaril quickly blows them apart.

"Bastard pieces of rock, SOLDIERS CONTINUE FORWARD! GET THE SOLDIERS AND MAGES IN THE WATER SECURED TO THE SHIPS SOMEHOW AND GET MOVING!" Honaril barked his command

The soldiers on the ships let down rope ladders attached to the ships for the soldiers in the water to grab onto while the mages began to fly and used their magic to lightly secure the soldiers on the ladders and ships while focussing the barriers, a lot of the soldiers in the water have already been pelted by arrows but those still alive do as ordered and grab onto the ladders. The ships continue to move dragging the soldiers through the water alongside them while Honaril now blitzes towards the city once again lightning fast in his movement crashing against the city's protective barrier he launches a series of strikes against it while calling down lightning from above on the areas he is not at. Yorun looks up at Honaril striking several points on the barrier and he flips down the faceplate of his armour before pulling the hood over the helmet and summoning Raeknars scythe to his hand, he flies up into the sky having practiced it multiple times staying behind the barrier yet it garners Honarils attention making him float just opposite Yorun on the other side of the barrier, several archers take the chance to shoot at him but the lightning crackling along his body strikes the arrows as they come destroying them.

"So, I'll take it you're the one I want, the dead raiser or necromancer, whatever you're called. You've become far too big a thorn in our side literally carving out territory that is our empires by right" Honaril said

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

"And I've taken it by right of conquest, sound familiar?" Yorun said unimpressed by his words though Honaril laughs

"Really? My just where did you pop up from? Oh who am I kidding what a perfect time to tell it, 'Raeknar comes from Kurinet and justice will be served' thats how you put it right?" Honaril asked confusing Yorun for a moment until he remembers a couple of soldiers before even the Orakin skirmish

"Took a while with the war planning, gods fighting and then the war breaking out but a report from a now abandoned military outpost near Gantoral reached the palace. This is all over that insignificant little village isn't it? What did you have family there? Friends? Too bad" Honaril said smirking

"Kurinet was my home, I was born there, raised a family and then on that fucking day I died there alongside them" Yorun said his anger growing now as he tightens his grip on the scythe

"Seems your body didn't get the message though it seems you've spread that around" Honaril said

Undead dragons fly out of the barrier low down passing Honarils notice as they attack the ships with green fire breath, the mages and ballistae rip through the ships crew once the barriers are damaged enough to force the barriers to start breaking down. The water constructs are constructed around the ships within their barriers and begin to shoot through the ships, the worried screams of some of the soldiers gain Honarils attention but as he is about to move he is hit by the scythe sending him flying as Yorun floats out of the barrier.

"I command the undead, I took Raeknars name, Gantoral laid in ruins after my message and everyone knew of the new chosen of Raeknar. My body got the message but I clawed my way back through this magic and I will bring them back when I've ripped your soul out and used it to end your fucking family!" Yorun shouted with his voice bristling with anger

Honaril now stops smiling despite his enjoyment he now sees to take it a bit more seriously, within a second the steel of the princes blade is locked with the scythe in Yoruns hand, Yorun quickly kicks the prince away shooting his green fireballs at Honaril while lighting up the black flames on the scythe. Honaril is no fool, knowing Yorun is the chosen he sees the black flames and guesses they're bad news avoiding locking blade to scythe once more, he dodges as much as possible which given his speed is more than simple enough for him. Yorun's attempts to slash at Honaril with the scythe again yet Honaril dodges and lands his own strike against Yorun and while it does move Yorun through the air it doesn't hurt him in any way.

"That armour is a masterwork, compliments to the smith, I think I'll take it once you're dead" Honaril said

"Thanks for the compliment, I made it" Yorun said as he makes waves of green fire emanate from himself consistently every few seconds

Honaril strikes the armour a few more times targeting the areas that are typically more open to damage in some way such as the joints yet he realises the armour covers those areas and moves with the body beneath like its constantly adjusting to protect his opponent entirely. Honaril calls down lightning striking Yorun with it which does force him to the ground with a large thud and a subsequent crater. Even with the armour holding up and not being damaged the slam into the ground is enough to rattle Yoruns brain for a moment and break a few ribs though as he slowly stands his eyes focus on Honaril who seems to be doing something to his sword yet as he notices Yorun looking at him again he makes a lightning bolt in his hand and launches it down at Yorun striking him then doing it again, Yorun each time is forced to his knees until he teleports behind Honaril and moves as quick as possible to touch him as his hand emanates black flames yet Honaril is still too fast moving away immediately before being touched.

"For a chosen I expected a more interesting fight despite the problem your armour gives me, only a matter of time before I get through that though" Honaril said

"Won't be that easy" Yorun said as he flies closer to the walls of Kelinrask as subtly as possible while blocking and dodging as many of the lightning as well as blade strikes as he can

Yorun splits his focus taking control of one of the undead operating a ballista nearby while controlling his body enough to protect it as best he can, the mental strain especially during the course of combat is a unique challenge for him but he aims the ballista as best as he can under the circumstance towards the battle and specifically at Honaril. Yorun while still controlling his body locks blade and scythe once more.

"Let me know one thing, your family. Looking to bring them back through service to Raeknar right? Fair plan but really, fighting a personal war against an empire, really thought it'd work out?" Honaril asked

"You tell me" Yorun said as he grabbed the lever for the ballista and pulled it

The ballista bolt shoots forward heading straight for Yoruns own back though the aim is a little off heading for more the left side of his torso just above the hip, Yorun teleports to the side, his form no longer hiding what's behind him leading Honaril to have the bolt pierce the armour and rip through him, taking a chunk out of his side and ripping the armour of that area off like paper shredding. Honaril screams in pain as he in an instant uses healing magic on his side and conjures some armour there to protect his insides and keep them as insides as he looks at Yorun.

"F-fuck... Couldn't even... argh... do it alone" Honaril said while grunting through the pain

"Oh but I did, I can directly control the undead, just had to control myself enough to not die, I aimed that ballista at my own back, I pulled the lever and now I will kill you" Yorun said coldly as he launches at him attacking with fireballs, a couple conjured swords and of course the scythe

Honaril blocks the attacks or dodges what he can but now more are hitting him as he focusses more on keeping himself from bleeding out and healing, he teleports over to the ships hoping to use his soldiers as shields while he and some of the healers tend his wounds yet as he arrives on a ship he sees the melee his soldiers are now in as the ships have reached the city and the water receded allowing the cities defenders to rush out and attack with the giant general literally crushing some of the soldiers. Yorun lands down amidst the melee and he slashes through the first line of the enemy soldiers cutting clean through them with the scythe, he continues to cut a line through them as the undead and elves push through the line to attack the enemy in the new path between them. The mages form a group ahead of Yorun and unleash a torrent of lightning infront of them directly at Yorun, the force of the attack which is constantly coming at him with it being a combination of fire, lightning and rock it forces Yoruns advance to slow yet he continues force slashing through the rock, ignoring the fire and while the lightning does push him back its not as strong as what Honaril struck him with so he soon enough quickly kills the mages doing that attack and he then raises every corpse nearby capable of being raised.

"HONARIL GHOHALAN COME BACK AND FINISH THIS OR I SWEAR TO RAEKNAR I WILL MAKE YOUR SOUL SCREAM" Yorun shouted amidst the battle cries and screams of the injured

Yorun blinks and a hand is on his throat as he is sent backwards being held by Honaril, he forces Yorun through his own undead and some elves coating them both in blood, the smell filling Yoruns nose as he attempts to touch him once more but within a second Yorun is thrown into the ground with Honaril backing up as he starts striking Yorun with lightning strike after lightning strike creating a deeper and deeper crater with Yorun right in the middle of it, the scythe leaving his hand. Yoruns brain rattles with each strike and he takes control of the general who stands above Yorun taking the strikes from above and shielding Yoruns body as he then stands back up slowly his body shaking.

"Let's see who's soul screams" Honaril said

Yorun focusses on Honaril his ears bleeding from the constant strikes and thundering sound of it as Honaril speeds forward and his blade pierces through into Yoruns shoulder crackling with energy and lightning primarily. Yorun barely reacts with his brain out of it as he just reaches out behind Honaril making the scythe appear in his hand properly once more and pulls back driving the scythes blade into his back cutting through the metal of his plate armour like nothing. Yorun headbutts Honaril forcing him back more into the scythes blade and finally Yorun uses the souls, screams coming from all around him as he conjures blades that stab into Honarils hands and force him to the ground pinning those same hands to the ground. Honaril screams and sputters blood from his mouth coughing it up but then he feels it something wrapping around his very soul rightening around it lighting it aflame like it was ready to be ripped away from it's home until Yorun takes the soul ripping it away just as they thought and Yorun grabs the body flying into the sky holding it up presenting it to the army that accompanied the now dead prince. The shock on their faces is evident and the undead as well as the elves continue to cut ever soldier down the smart ones surrender and are left untouched save for the blood of their comrades that splash onto them before Yorun raises the body of the prince and tosses it down to the ground so the newly risen princes body can slay his own soldiers, when this is done however Yorun falls being caught by Golanier and spirited away to the backline healers, after the amount of times his brain was rattled around inside his skull plus the broken bones particularly the ribs and the new shoulder wound he falls unconscious yet still a victor of his personal combat with the prince. The battle rages for a couple days even after the death of their leader the command structure stays, with the soldiers continuing to fight until they finally all die. The waters around Kelinrask are stained red from the blood, the bodies in and around the city piling high with all too many sinking to the bottom of the sea floor yet those who live such as the remaining guards, elves and those who surrendered watch as Golanier rises into the sky when the battle is finally done, the the screams of the souls he has bound ring out as he raises every corpse on the battlefield and within the waters. This single act, despite the difficulties of the battle particularly for Yorun, more than doubles the army of the dead all the while the empire has lost the heir to be with the loss of Honaril...
