chapter 6

As flippant as she was to this whole situation, the girl didn’t want to reiterate the news broadcast to the two boys again; persistent against their bribery and begging. Even when the boys’ came around to getting her to answer, they were met with implausible excuses for an answer. The brevity of each of her answers left them agitated to the brim. And while the whole time the two boys were floundering to get her to answer fully and concluding, the girl was having the time of her life being petty, refusing all the begging and giving them obscure answers such as : “yes”, “no”, “I don’t know”, “why should I tell you.”

This all started because the broadcast sophisticated girl didn’t want to share the pretty girl she saw on the news, especially to the two boys.

Verily, this was all a misunderstanding. To the the girl, when the elder boy entreatingly asked if anyone was being interviewed, and to give him an intricate description of them and what they said, the girl took that to heart, thinking that he has a secret crush on her; thus angering her and eluding every specific question they both asked. But what angered her the most, other than the fact that the two boys were, in her eyes, frolicking around the topic of her friend crush, but the fact that she was late to having an auspicious day with said friend crush. Prior to before the boys left, she was going to mention how the girl being interviewed attended their school too, and now when she was finally going to spend time with her friend crush, she gets held back by the same two boys that left her in the middle of her ranting! That is what angered her the most. Who knows if she’s palpable in this scenario, but her other friends, who were inquiring about the congregation from far away, most likely agreed with her.

Getting tired and coming up with a new plan, the younger boy pulled his friend away by his arm and had a one on one conversation with him, conjuring up a new plan.

“What if we just find the girl ourselves from other people, eh?”

  “What if she gets suspicious!?”

“Ahh you’re being too paranoid. It’s not like we’re the only ones going up to her.”

  “…”

  “…”

  “No.”

“Come on, let’s give it a try?”

The elder boy put his left hand on the younger boys shoulder, “give me an estimate—”

  “Of what?”

“How many people here do you know watched the news?”

The younger boy paused for a moment, reminiscing about people he knows who watch the news. And besides his family — who watches the news out of spite and as an opening to start an argument — he doesn’t really know anybody else who would watch the news, yeah maybe through social media they would, but who knows how long they watch it for before scrolling away into an impending doom-scroll.

After a while of thinking, his smart ass decides to say, “that girl :3”

  “...”

  ‘Bitch?’

Sometimes the elder boy wonders how he’s able to tolerate him, considering how aloof he always is. But if you put all his bad traits with his good ones, there's a higher ratio of good traits than bad traits. Well, it also depends on the person and how they perceive it.

Throughout that whole school day not once had they been successful in getting her to give them the persons’ name. No sort of enticing would convince her at all, and so while they thought their attempts were futile, they sat down together for lunch again on the same set of stairs.

Going on his phone, he kept on seeing more news outlets updating about recent anomaly attacks, as if they weren’t involved with one already. It was like the world was giving them an obvious hint that they should do something fast. But what can they do? Even if they did find the person, they would only get maltreatment from them and the world if the word spreads that they were involved. No good would come out of it; but subsequently, it was their fault. Maybe it was a bad idea to just go with the flow. Maybe it was a bad idea to take ‘it’ home. Maybe it was a bad idea to even have an affinity to ‘it’.

Why did Marcus even decide to take care of it in the first place?

Soren looked at Marcus head on, even if he was looking at the dead cockroach that was there since yesterday.

  ‘This school is nasty…’

  “Marcus.”

He averted his trepidatious gaze towards his voice, his pupils venturing all over his face waiting for him to continue speaking.

“I- uh-” Soren stumbled over his words, panicking, “ let’s just go find them…”

In the end, Soren couldn’t speak his mind eloquently; he wasn’t audacious enough to interrogate his friend. He was too precarious.

Gnawing at his own hesitancy, Soren was left alone unbeknownst on the staircase by Marcus. When he looked up he was able to catch a glimpse of his elder friend exiting through the door, leaving not anxious, but with a look of duty on his face. Soren continued sitting down on the staircase waiting until the bell reverbed throughout the whole stairwell.

The amount of progress made from the information Marcus accumulated from his other classmates wasn’t sufficient enough. He was really astonished by how many people of his age don’t watch the news, well he can’t really blame them since he doesn’t either, and the news are pretty much more imperative to older folks (even indulging in false ones too). But how was he supposed to get anywhere without any information? This whole ordeal felt like a rinse and repeat of when he and Soren was finding info on Diesel: time consuming, inundating, and capricious, garnering from the amount of times he went ballistic. The inclement weather didn’t provide any help either to the situation he's in; going from hot to cold then hot again and then a frequency of cold days. Even the rain…

The inclination between him and the weather wasn’t so amiable to say the least. You can compare it as a curse that befell on him, shackles around his neck so whenever there was expected downpour he would always fall ill. A perfect example as a weak little child when they catch a cold or virus, that's how he is when he gets so frail.

Recommencing his walk back to Soren, whom he left isolated on the staircase, he halted to a stop once he heard a familiar voice adjacent to him; and when said familiar voice gradually became more eloquent and conspicuous, he readied himself in anticipation of getting scolded at by her again.

Yes it was his classmate. The one who went on a little date with their coveted person.

The girl was pretty ostentatious dazzling herself up in bright colors alongside with muted ones to contrast each other, big bangles either made or a handydown, baggy cardigan layered on top of her collared shirt paired with baggy white pants to fit the color palette, and a headband to compliment her elongated hair that reached her backside and tall stature. When the sun beams that shone from the window landed on her tanned skin, it somehow enhanced her by making her more prominent and an eminent of a high school celebrity who happens to assimilate well within a community of students floundering with penury.

Oh how he wishes Soren was right next to him–

  “Woah she’s tall.”

  …

‘Where the fuck did he come from?’

Now Marcus has all the leverage for the possibly imminent scowling, perhaps? Who knows if she’ll holler at them — mostly him — or if her mind has cooled down a little bit. Hopefully it’s the latter, he doesn’t want to deal with any more endeavors coming from her; she was already a handful as is.

The two girls were gradually coming closer to them in the same hallway and direction of the two boys, who were just standing there like nothing was happening, whilst eating the victuals that was pre-prepared by the two boys’ classmate. You can tell she was way head over heels for this tall girl; she was practically thinking of her as an epitome of an elysian and even committing herself as her devotee. Who knows what else she did but you can feel that burning affinity that was educing out of her and engulfing all three.

Soren and Marcus telepathically connected thoughts and unanimously decided to devise a plan to interrogate the tall girl together. They already brought themselves down this deep, they might as well keep going until they burnout.

Fortunately, they didn’t have to go through with all of that, as the tall girl already blurted out how she wanted to talk to us about something confidential.

The two boys already anticipated this for quite some time, but they didn’t think that it would happen this soon. At most, they thought they would have to venture out again on another cat and mouse chase game just like they've always been doing, in which case instead of them being the mouse they were instead the cats. A long and diurnal cat and mouse chase…

The same could be said about the other as she carefully and intently scrutinized the two making sure it was them her hobo; drunk uncle saw two days ago.

Now it was about a matter of time and convincing.

  “I’ll be right back.”

“Alrighty! I’ll save your food until you come back :3”

They didn’t leave any margin for dithering, leaving the girl alone and getting straight into the conversation.

In the staircase a level below their prior congregation, there the three of them stood, going back and forth with a jumbled recollection of events. One not believing the other and ardent convincing. Even after the bell rang, all three of them continued going back and forth, concerning other fellow schoolmates. The whole ordeal felt perpetual.

Originally, the whole plan that they conjured up was to convince the tall girl that, yes, they openly admitted that whatever she saw was true, plus the anomaly part, but to deny the fact they had anything to do with the bodies and they are just as worried as she is. But what was supposed to be a calm discussion soon ended up being a heated argument between them. The tall girl kept on insisting that anomalies aren’t real and that what her hobo uncle really saw was two boys fleeing from a crime scene that they committed. And evidently, Marcus got upset at the fact that even though she had a valid point, she wasn’t believing either him or Soren. And as the two continued on and on, their tone became more and more aggressive.

Soren felt the whole argument was becoming more indiscernible rather than conflicting. Midway through arguing he stopped because even he went off tangent in their contending. So now it’s just the tall girl and Marcus battling each other in a heated tug-of-war, which is obviously insulting each other until the other prevails.

Soren in the corner: should I tell them the bell is gonna ring soon? …. Nahh I kinda wanna see where this goes.

The first bell, then the second, then the third; they already skipped at least four classes max. And of course, Soren was there contemplating whether he should record them both bickering or pretend to be a little child witnessing a potential divorce forthcoming. Either way, he was in a little pickle since he didn’t know what else to do besides watch their perpetual contention.

  “go suck a cock bitch!”

“I’m not that much of a whore like YOU.”

“You’re just jealous you can’t pull any bitches, bleh!”

  ‘Can I go home now?’

Soren was on the verge of running away annoyed. The weather was nice and he wanted to go out and have some fun, but with the way things are going, and the amount of classes they already skipped — it was pretty much the end of the school day — he might as well take a long stroll alone; maybe tag a random person along with him. Turning his back around and making sure his bag didn’t shuffle a lot, he obscurely and listlessly gravitated down the stairs, and when he looked back to make sure the two bickering people didn’t notice him, he continued down until he reached the exit door. Their argument had no more meaning to it other than trying to one up the other, so to Soren, it technically means that the tall girl and Marcus are both ok with the fact that one knows about their Diesel, and the other is content knowing they have Diesel. Maybe later they’ll come to a consensus and go back to Marcus' house to introduce Diesel.

Speaking of Diesel, he never really told his parents why he’s been having sleepovers at Marcus’s. He’ll probably just make up a blank excuse to cover up the fact he’s taking care of an anomaly.

When Soren was a few meters from his school, the weather acted up again and what was supposed to be a nice zephyr turned into harsh wind.

‘…heh, woah!’ Soren thought to himself as he hugged himself to garner and accumulate a little bit of warmth from his own heat. ‘Marcus is definitely gonna get sick coming back home.’

Marcus and the tall obscene girl finally met up with Soren sitting on Marcus' bed hiding Diesel behind his back.

Apparently, according to Marcus, he involuntarily offered to show off Diesel as proof that he wasn’t lying and the tall girl agreed. Thankfully they came back without bickering nor any fighting.

Diesel, suffocating from being forcefully hidden by her guardian's back, slipped her way out through between his arms and laid her eyes upon what she deemed as her new guardian.

  “...!?”

The tall obscene girl jumped from seeing her slimy self reveal herself so bluntly and without a care. She looked at Soren who sighed, glad he didn’t have to introduce Diesel, and spun her head to look at Marcus, who was frowning his eyebrows and looking back at her with a ‘i told you so’ attitude.

  “Its so–”

“Whatever you’re about to say, we said the same thing too.” Soren said while jiggling Diesel.

  “Also it's a baby and a girl.”

She had an epiphany after hearing their clear up of the situation and suddenly she felt a sudden inclination to immediately cater to the little thing.

“Awww! Hi there you pretty little thing! My name’s Nylah, what's your name, pretty little thing.?”

  “Her name’s Diesel :3”

  “...”

“What kinda fucking name is that you dumb bitch.”
