Chapter 7: The Dragon Problem

  Chapter 7

After our meeting, everyone filed out of the room one by one, leaving only Jacob and King Tomo behind. I had asked them to stay so we could discuss the dragon problem in detail. Once everyone had left, I began to use my ability, Terepashī, on Jacob and King Tomo. Despite not having practiced much with my abilities, Terepashī was relatively easy to use, and I could communicate telepathically with up to three people simultaneously without any trouble.

As I initiated the telepathic link, it felt like we were having a normal conversation, except that it was all in our heads and completely silent to anyone else. Jacob initially panicked when he heard our voices in his mind, but King Tomo quickly calmed him down, explaining that it was just one of my magical abilities. Once settled, Jacob was the first to speak.

"I'm pretty sure I know why you wanted me to stay," Jacob's mind-voice was deep and soothing, reminiscent of a late-night radio host. "It's not just my skills as a farmer or running a private security firm. It’s because of my nickname: the Dragon Slayer."

"Of course," I replied quickly. "How astute of you. But contrary to what you might think, it's not about killing the dragons."

Jacob and King Tomo's eyes widened in surprise. "What do you mean?" King Tomo asked, stroking his beard.

"I don't want to kill the dragons," I explained. "I actually believe they can be a great asset to the kingdom."

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

King Tomo looked puzzled. "What would we do with them? In the history of Starfall, dragons have always been part of the culture."

"Exactly," I said excitedly. "But it wasn’t always negative. The first people who settled here were actually dragon riders and tamers."

King Tomo looked at me with a mix of curiosity and confusion. "How do you know about the history of Starfall?"

"As my room was being converted into the War Room, I spent a lot of time in the library, learning about the kingdom's customs and history," I explained.

Jacob interjected, his deep mind-voice cutting through. "In that era, having such abilities was so common that today it would be considered extraordinary."

I cut him off, excitedly. "You couldn’t possibly be talking about the Dragon Tamer ability, right?"

Both Tomo and Jacob looked at me with wild expressions. "How could you possibly know that?" they both asked simultaneously.

"I do have the skill," I confessed. "But I don’t really know how to use it yet. Princess Komachi has been trying to help me figure it out, but we haven’t had much success."

King Tomo spoke up, his voice filled with authority. "We need to find an Erudādoragon."

  "An Erudādoragon?" I asked, intrigued.

"Yes," King Tomo continued. "Having the Dragon Tamer ability is only one part of the equation. With just the Dragon Tamer abilities, you can only control smaller, lesser dragons. But if you receive a blessing from an Erudādoragon, you'll have dominion over all dragons. The stronger the blessing, the more powerful the dragons you can control."

"So, our first step is to find an Erudādoragon and earn its blessing?" I asked, already formulating a plan in my mind.

"Exactly," King Tomo confirmed. "It will be dangerous, but it’s the only way to truly harness the power of the dragons for the benefit of Starfall."

Jacob nodded in agreement. "I can help with the logistics and security. My experience as a Dragon Slayer will come in handy."

I looked at both of them, feeling a surge of determination. "Then it’s settled. Our next mission is to find an Erudādoragon and secure its blessing. This is how we will save Starfall."

The three of us continued to strategize late into the night, planning our next steps meticulously. The journey ahead was fraught with danger, but with the combined efforts of this new council and the power of the dragons, I felt confident that we could overcome any obstacle in our path.
