Necromancy In Brief - Unknown Author

Assuming the ability to resurrect the dead does exist and is practiced in Lyvik, it is done so in secret. From what some Somancers may know, Necromancy is the attempt to transfer anima to a dead creature in the hope it revives. Sickening, and interesting. I’m sure a Somancer would be interested. Paranimancy would theoretically aid in this process. Anima from one creature may be transferred to another; this is Paranimancy. Nobody supports Paranimancy, at least using sapient creatures. Some might consider the consumption of meat and plants of a Paranimatic nature—and in essence, it is. At present, it is unknown whether the body holds the soul, or if the mind contains it. If one’s anima is stored within the physical body, it would be possible to enhance acts of Paranimatic nature by manipulating the flesh. With enough resources, perhaps a Somancer could figure this out? Which would be taboo, of course. I digress.

Little is known about Necromancy for obvious reasons. Paranimancy is spoken softly; Necromancy is silent. Those who have mentioned it have been viewed in the same manner as Ignimancers (to a greater degree). It is beyond taboo. Even this note may bring me scrutiny. Writings on Necromancy are sparse, and research even mentioning it is forbidden. A Somancer might I have have contemplated it, particularly one with unrealized animatic leanings. I’m sure the thought has crossed most Lyviki’s minds. A Somancer might understand the potential, maybe uncover the process. Should one exist, that is. Yet, Necromancy is forbidden knowledge; obscene, unnatural, and purposefully buried. Should someone discover a method to reanimate the dead, it will surely result in chaos and unrest, pun intended. We are consoled by the promised resting-death only until the dead breathe and Lyvik is a mountain of living rot.
