Chapter 52

The next few days went by in a flash as Samuel was swamped with work and the previous conversation had been shelved for the moment, it did nothing to stop Anya for lamenting over her mistakes.

Even now she was laying on the sofa with Faesol clutched firmly in her cutters, the evolution Pokémon found herself completely stuck with Anya, she wasn't exactly comfortable, but neither was she uncomfortable in staying like that for an extended period, she endured it for her friends sake.

"[You know Anya, as much as I like to laze around all day with you, like any other Espeon]" Faesol said, causing Anya to listen attentively

"[But, I liked it better when I was the one that did the lazing and you were happily doing the interesting things that I can not understand instead of moping]"

"[So, could you like cheer up already]" she said flatly to drive home her point

"[Who cares if Samuel knows that you know about the future, it is not like he knows what you know"]

"[You still have all the berries in your stash, even if your stash location is known]"

Anya gave a small laugh as she heard Faesol's oddly specific idiom

"[You are right, I was planning to do something soon-ish, but your fur is just so soft]" Anya said giddily while rubbing her face along Faesol's back.

  "[Okay, Okay, I'll get up]

Sliding herself off from the sofa Faesol still clutched on her cutters, the Espeon stretching length wise, her hind legs barely reaching the floor started to wriggle around in discomfort and Anya released her grip on her.

"[Thank you for being my emotional support Pokémon]" Anya said while carefully dusting her dress, trying to remove most of the purple fur clinging to it.

Having done a lot of tailoring and taking a break from making clothes for herself, she already had multiple sets of different kinds of clothes, she had made everything she could think of, from practical clothes to fancy multi-piece abominations, she even had made shirts for Samuel and embroidered napkin sheets for Faesol with different pictures in them.

On the plushie side of things, there was a strict no plush policy inside the house which was solely enforced by Faesol, the only place plushies that were allowed was a singular wooden box that had the word "Commissions" written on it with blocky letters, any personal plushies out of the box were promptly erased by Faesol.

Anya didn't know why, but the only plushie she was allowed to have around was Evie, her first Eevee plush she had made here at pallet.

Funnily enough Evie the Eevee plush was claimed by Faesol most of the nights with the excuse that Anya would accidentally cut it open in her sleep.

Standing around the middle of the room, Anya had started practicing one of his new hobbies.

Other than tailoring and making plushies, she has been fascinated by something she called the defensive matrix that was made when the Pokémon enters their battling state.

Recently she has been able to activate this state at will and she could study the inner workings of the matrix more easily, she couldn't see the layer around her, but she could still feel its effects.

Right now she was testing how much the protective layer extended past the skin, she activated her battle mode while wielding a leek which was stuck on her cutters with sticky silk.

She could feel the protective layer setting on top of her as the silk clothes she was wearing started to stick unnaturally on her skin as if being part of her all along. She concentrated her attention to the leek in her cutter, something had happened to it, but it did not feel the same as her clothes. She decided to put it to the test.

"[Now Faesol, if you would?]" she said to her friend as she held the leek towards Faesol who was still laying on the sofa, the red gem on Faesol's forehead shined bright, she soon manifested a purple psychic apparition and swiped it past the leek, cutting through it easily. The leek had split cleanly in two, Anya frowned.

"[Seems it was a failure, I wonder what I am missing, the clothes were protected just fine. Is there a limit of how much I can envelope in the matrix or is there some other variable.]" she said while waving the rest of the leek around. She has repeated the current experiment multiple times with varying results.

Some times she could feel the cut on the leek, she surmised that the protective coverage has something to do with how one perceives and believes in things. For example her own clothes stick on her as she believes she should wear them, but she feels like she doesn't have enough conviction to keep the leek intact.

While Anya was writing down the results of her latest experiment with the typewriter Samuel entered the room.

"Might someone tell me why is there a piece of-" He paused middle of the sentence to take closer look "-leek on the floor?" Samuel said as he identified the piece of green on the floor.

Finished writing and handing Samuel the just written paper explaining what she was doing, it took him a while to understand exactly what the paper was on about, the research on Pokémon innate defensive capabilities were practically unexplored scientifically.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

"Fascinating" Samuel said eagerly as he read through the papers "You do have some amazing insight into things"

"Who would have known that the perspective of a Pokémon allows you to perceive things differently" he laughed at his own wordplay.

"No one in the IRI has ever mentioned such a subject, even though it was right in front of our eyes the whole time."

"It makes so much sense that Pokémon with a tool or other external equipment would have them covered somehow during combat, even the records show that some Pokémon gain a tool during evolution"

He took a look at his watch sighed before saying "We can continue this later, but right now if it would be okay to continue the conversation we had some days ago, the one about your foreknowledge"

Anya stiffened for a moment, she wasn't exactly ready for this conversation, she thought it would be better to have it now than leave it to stew and have it out of the way.

Giving him the go ahead, Samuel sat down next to Faesol and ran his hand around her back, careful to not mess with her fur.

"I have been thinking for the past few days and I would like to know you a bit better, only about things that you feel comfortable sharing with me."

Caught unprepared yet again by Samuel, she wasn't sure how she expected the conversation to start, but this wasn't it.

She thought hard for a while, she did not like the idea of telling Samuel about her past too much, she started typing.

ONE DAY I WOKE UP ALONE INSIDE THE FOREST, I WAS NOT SURE WHERE I WAS AT THE MOMENT.

I MADE MYSELF SHELTER NEAR THE STREAM, SCAVENGED FOR FOOD AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE I WAS.

MET WITH AN ODD GROUP OF POKéMON, NINETALES, EEVEE, RATTATA AND VULPIX.

THEY INVITED ME INTO THEIR NEST FOR THE WINTER.

ABANDONED THE NEST THE MOMENT THE SNOW WAS GONE.

SOMETHING ABOUT WAKING OF THE BEEDRILL AND THEIR TERRITORIAL BEHAVIOR.

LEAVING THE NEST AND WALKING ALONGSIDE THE STREAM LED ME TO PALLET.

WHERE I MET YOU AND YOU KNOW THE REST.

"This is interesting and all, but I am more interested about the time before all of that, why are you Anya? What makes a Leavanny act like, for the lack of better word, like a Human?"

"I have not shared this with anyone, we have been living under the same roof for a while, the things you know, do and tell give me an impression. The way how you structure your sentences and how you act around people."

"I have a certain belief and this might sound crazy, but tell me Anya, are you a Human or were you one at some point?"

"It would explain most of the things about you, the foreknowledge on the other hand is still a mystery, the connection with Celebi might shed some light into your situation."

Anya was flabbergasted, she looked at Faesol and asked her "[Am I really that transparent?]"

"[Well, you have not exactly tried to hide it to be honest, you act like a Human most of the time anyways and I don't think being a former Human is that bad of a thing. Like what does it matter in the bigger picture"]

"[Nothing much, only the way how the people who know might behave around me]" Anya said while her eyes lingered around her cutters, steeling herself she started typing.

SEEMS LIKE THE MEOWTHS OUT OF THE BAG.

I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN SOONER OR LATER.

HIDING IT MORE WOULD JUST MAKE THIS SITUATION HARDER, MORE AWKWARD.

YES, I USED TO BE A HUMAN.

I WOULD PREFER THAT THIS INFORMATION STAYS BETWEEN US.

Samuel grunted in acceptance, he had a feeling that might have been the case all along.

"How?" was the only word he managed to say out loud.

Faesol too noticed the change in the atmosphere and rose up to Anya's side and used her presence to comfort her friend.

Struggling with her feelings, somehow this did not feel as bad as she had first thought, maybe it had something to do with what she knew of Samuel, compared to Giovanni at least.

  I DO NOT KNOW

IT DOES NOT MATTER ANYMORE EITHER

  I AM WHAT I AM, A LEAVANNY, A POKEMON

The tension leaving her body felt great, she felt free, liberated. Even if she felt a bit uneasy as her secret was out in the open.

Waiting for Samuel to pass his judgement.

"You look oddly at peace" Samuel commented his observation "I thought it was something of a species trait rather than a personal thing"

"Such a heavy secret on your shoulders, no wonder."

His eyes met Faesol's "I believe you knew already?" to which Faesol gave him careful but determined nod.

"No need to be so alert, I do not plan on doing anything to her or you. I just want to understand this whole thing better."

"Now that you have released the weight from yourself, what can you tell me about Anya the Human?" Samuel pushed the conversation forward.

Anya took a moment to think, before writing. She was honestly surprised on how calm and patient Samuel had been this whole time.

I WAS HOSPITAL BOUND DUE TO A FOREST FIRE INCIDENT, STUCK IN A BED FOR DAYS, MONTHS, YEARS.

AFTER A WHILE THE DAYS MERGE TOGETHER AND FORM A BLUR.

I DID NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO WALK ANYMORE, NEITHER MY FAMILY NOR MY FRIENDS DID ANY VISITS AFTER FEW MONTHS.

I AM HAPPY TO BE WHAT I AM RIGHT NOW AND I DO NOT CARE THAT I AM NOT HUMAN ANYMORE.

I MISS HAVING HANDS, BUT I HAVE BEEN GETTING VERY GOOD WITH THESE CUTTERS

WHOEVER BROUGHT ME HERE, I WILL GIVE THEM MY THANKS, BE IT ARCEUS OR ANY OTHER GODLIKE BEING.

Revelation after revelation struck Samuel mentally, his experience as a champion and a public image came in handy as he could keep himself calm.

Right now was not the time to show uncertainty nor was it the time to voice out his opinions.

He was here to listen, with some nudges here and there to steer the conversation forward.

"Maybe giving me a location or something. We might be able to contact your family" he suggested.

THANK YOU SAMUEL. I APPRECIATE THE THOUGHT.

I WILL TELL YOU SOME DAY AND THEN YOU WILL UNDERSTAND

WHY I CHOSE NOT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

"I understand. Its not like it is any weirder than turning into a Pokémon would be"

"[Well...]" said Anya while refusing to meet Samuel's eyes.

"You can't be serious" he said in disbelief as he understood the meaning behind Anya's action.
