It’s a Friday afternoon. Jade and Tori are making out on the couch in Tori’s home. Tori’s mom comes up from behind them and drops some papers on Tori’s lap, startling the two of them.
“Mom! You said you were fine with us!”
“I am fine with you two. It’s just that I’ve always wanted to do that. You haven’t had someone for me to interrupt since Danny and I didn’t think it would be another boy because you have bad luck with them. Plus, Trina makes boys feel uncomfortable in the bad way. Check those papers out. They’re important.”
“Oh. They’re from the driving school. Thanks.”
“You don’t sound so enthusiastic about that, Tori.” Jade says.
“Yeah. I think she’s scared to take her test. That’s what those papers are for.”
“Mom! Okay. You’re right.”
“We already have a date for you. Check the papers.”
Trina and David come in along with Jasper.
“We got doughnuts for Take Your Son to Work Day! Thank you Mr. Vega!”
“I’m glad I could finally bring a son to this!”
“Remember how you used to bring Tori and me? We’re right here.”
“By the way, Tori, have you thought about the driving test yet? Your mother and I scheduled it.” David says.
“You really need to get your license, Tori. I have mine. André, Beck and Jade have theirs. Imagine if Robbie and Cat get theirs before you.”
“Robbie, I believe. Cat, no.”
“I can help you, Tori.” Jade says.
“Could you? She’s scared. We already did driving school with her. She just hasn’t made the push.”
“Dad! Never mind. You’re right. I am scared.”
“I can if she’s ready.”
“She’s ready.” They all say.
“Just believe in yourself.” Jasper says.
“Well, we can always make out and get interrupted at my mom’s place.” Jade says sarcastically.
Tori laughs. “I’m not sure if I’m ready yet.”
“But seriously, I’m here. We have a date to go to. I’ll open the car door for you. I need to freshen up upstairs.”
“Okay.” Tori goes outside.
“I’ll pick you up when it’s over, Jasper.”
“Okay, Jade.”
Jade goes to the upstairs bathroom. “My first date with Tori that isn’t school related or with others. No free grade, no play, no Sinjin or Burf, no other friends. Just us.” When she exits the bathroom door, she’s met with David.
“I’ll give you a hundred dollars if you help Tori learn to drive so she can get her license.”
“Um, okay.”
“Fine. I’ll give you two hundred.” He hands her the cash and walks to the bedroom.
That was weird. She goes downstairs and is met with Holly.
“I’ll give you a hundred dollars if you help Tori learn to drive so she can get her license.”
“I already plan to do it, Mrs. Vega.”
“Fine. I’ll give you two hundred.” She hands her the cash and walks to the bedroom.
If I knew I’d get free money, I would’ve been nicer to Tori sooner. And then we would’ve had sex. But how am I going to help her?
She walks downstairs.
“It’s Olive Bargain time, Tori!”
“What took you so long?”
“Your parents—”
“Enough said.”
“Our parents will cook for him.” Trina says.
“Enjoy!” Jade says.
“You’re such a good sister, Jade!” Jasper hugs him. “I’m glad Mom had my name legally changed!”
Tori and Jade are now at The Olive Bargain. They’re sharing a plate of spaghetti and meatballs.
“You know, I’m surprised we’re eating our own entrées and sharing a plate of spaghetti.” Tori says.
“You know, we’d probably get together quicker if we came here instead of Nozu for our date. If we were forced to kiss in the middle of spaghetti, I might’ve fucked you before dessert.”
“I’d much prefer after. Public restrooms are gross.”
Jade laughs. “You want to try it?”
“Sure.” Tori picks up a noodle. “Get the other end.”
“Okay.” They eat their way to the middle and kiss.
“I love you, Jade.”
“I love you, Tori.”
They kiss again.
“You turned me into a corny person, Tori.” Jade laughs.
“You make me laugh at dark jokes now. I’d say we’re even.”
They just stare at each other.
“If we stare too long, our food will get as cold as me before we started dating.”
“You’re right, Jade.”
They finish their food. Then the dessert comes in.
“We’re lucky we were hungry.”
“We’re lucky your parents gave me so much money.”
“Time for dessert.”
“We should’ve kissed the first time at Nozu. Maybe they would’ve taken the hint after we sang.”
“Maybe we would’ve ended up kissing at the end of that play. I love you, Nancy.”
“I love you, Walter.”
They both laugh and gaze at each other.
“We have to eat this.” They say after realizing that their looks are distracting each other.
After eating and paying the bill, Jade drives Tori to her house, but stops once they’re in her neighborhood.
“Why did you stop?”
“Try driving to your house.”
“What?”
“Just grip the steering wheel, look at it like a clock and put your hands on 10 and 2, put your right foot on the brake pedal right where I’m pointing at, pull the gear shifter from P to D then move your foot to the gas pedal slowly and go. It’ll be fun. Plus, it’s just one block and there are no kids.”
“I don’t know.”
“Please? I believe in you.” She strokes Tori’s face.
“You’re lucky I trust you when you use that soft voice.”
They switch seats and Tori gets in the driver side.”
“Foot on the brake.”
“I know. I learned from driver’s ed.”
She starts slowly. Jade laughs.
“What’s funny?”
“Speed up a little.”
“Um … Okay.”
Tori goes from 5 MPH to 10 MPH. They finally make it to her house.
“Why?”
“I just felt spontaneous. That’s all. Also, I have surprise for you on Monday.”
“Does it involve sex again?”
“Not this time, Tori. But it’ll be useful in the long run. Kiss me goodnight, Sweetie.”
They kiss and Tori gets out of the car. Jasper comes outside to give Tori a quick hug before entering the car.
“I love you, my gem. Drive home safely, mi amor.”
“I love you too, Tori. I’m not mad that you make me give you pet names.”
“You know you love it, mi joya.”
Jade drives.
“I like seeing you smile like that when Tori makes you happy.”
“I’m smiling because of thoughts in my head.”
“What thoughts?”
“They’re gross thoughts.”
It’s now Monday morning at school. Beck, André, and Jade are in the parking lot getting out of their cars. Trina parks the car and she and Tori get out. Suddenly, Robbie and Cat are in separate cars and each drive into a parking lot spot.
“Cat and I got our licenses!”
“On the same day!”
“At the same place!”
“Not at the same time though! That would’ve been funny!”
“My car’s blue! It’s not a convertible though!”
“My brother isn’t allowed to drive the car anymore after another incident with the police. Oh! We can have friend trips in the car!”
Trina leans into Tori’s ear. “Told ya!”
“At least I’m in driving school now! It’s a start!”
“Can I still count on your brother for fake blood and fake body parts in the future?”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
“You’re the only one left without a license, Tori.” Beck says.
“I always said you needed to get yours. And now you’re last.” André says
“I know, guys!”
Now they’re in class with Sikowitz.
“Today’s exercise will be about improv. We will be doing a taxi cab game. There will be a driver and passengers. Each new passenger will have their own personality and everyone else has to follow suit.”
Tori groans.
“Is something the matter Toro?”
“That’s not my name!”
“She’s upset that she doesn’t have a driver license.” André says.
“And Cat and Robbie got theirs first.” Beck says.
“I started driving school though!”
“Nice joke, you two. Cat and Robbie getting their licenses makes no sense. Now what’s really bothering you, Tori? You’re one of my best students. You’re one of my six favorites here in this class.”
The shruggers mumble.
“You all know it’s true. None of you say anything loud enough.”
They mumble again.
“No. He’s right. Look. Robbie and I got ours.”
Robbie and Cat hand Sikowitz their licenses and he laughs.
“You let puppet boy and crazy red head girl get theirs before you?” Sikowitz then starts to laugh.
“I don’t bring Rex out much anymore!”
“Yeah! His hand and arm are busy with me now!”
Everyone except Tori laughs at what Cat said. Sikowitz still laughs at Tori’s misfortune. Jade glares at Sikowitz. He clears his throat.
“Anyway, let’s continue the exercise.”
Now they’re all at the Asphalt Café.
“I feel so lame.”
“Then ask mom and dad to help you drive more often.”
“But I’m scared, Trina. Jade let me drive home from our date and I was stiff.”
“Well, your test is going to come up soon. You’ll need that license.”
“We all got ours.” André says.
“Do you need me to wear a dress again and take your test?”
“Beck!”
“Alright. But it’s not like Jade can push you off of a chair again.”
Jade looks down.
“Oops.”
“No. It’s okay, Beck. It was messed up of me to push her without her being ready. She just needed it and I wanted to push her to be a jerk. Wait. Push? Push. Push! I have an idea!”
Everyone stares at her.
“I’m not going to push her off of a chair from a second floor again!”
They still stare at her.
“I’m not pushing her into oncoming traffic either. I still fear the entire Vega family.”
“No offense, but how did you get your license before me, Cat?”
“My brother may be weird and banned from a lot of public places, but he’s a good driver. He taught me.”
“Robbie?”
“Since I started dating Cat, there was a lot of peer pressure from my family to be a man.”
“You know, if Rex were here, he’d probably make a joke at my expense of being the last one to drive. Then he’d mock Robbie about his man comment. I miss him a little.”
“I don’t.” Jade and Trina say.
“What’s wrong with asking your parents to let you drive around since you’re in driving school? Your dad’s a cop.” Robbie asks
“She’s still too scared to ask our parents.”
“Tori, can we make out somewhere alone after school? Like the Blackbox Theater?”
“Yes! Thank you for changing the subject!
“Are you actually going to push Tori?” Cat asks.
“I’m her girlfriend now! We’re holding hands and wear matching necklaces! I was alone with her in her house and in my car multiple times already and I could’ve killed her if I wanted! Is it really that hard to trust me?”
Nobody says anything.
“Yeah. I shouldn’t have asked that. I walked into that one.”
“Hey, at least she loves me. We schedule days where she wants to make out with me for a minute.”
Jade and Tori are on the stage of the Blackbox Theater kissing. Tori is on top of Jade.
“Get up. I have a surprise for you, Tori! Close your eyes and I’ll hold your hand!”
“What is it?”
“You’ll see. Let’s just avoid the others.”
“Why didn’t we pick the library? That’s the other make out spot.”
“Doesn’t matter. I got my kiss. Let’s go.”
“Okay!”
“You know how I’ve been a bad person in the past?”
“Don’t worry about it.”
“I was such a jerk.”
“But you changed.”
“I made you feel scared that day you needed a ride and you jumped out the car.”
“I trust you now.”
“I’m glad you said that because here’s your surprise!”
They walk to Jade’s car. Jade opens the driver’s side and moves Tori inside.
“This doesn’t feel like the passenger seat. Am I in the back?”
“Open your eyes!”
Tori removes her hands.
“I’m teaching you how to drive! Yay! Say something!”
“Something.”
“Don’t worry. I’m here. It’s an empty parking lot. You’ll be fine.”
“Jade, why am I—
“Your parents wanted me to.”

After kissing, Jade tells Tori to drive around the school and alternate from increasing and decreasing her speed every time.
“And stop. Alright. How are you feeling?”
“I feel fine. There was nobody around for me to kill.”
“Good. We’re picking up Jasper.”
“Huh?”
“Don’t worry. Just listen to what I say.”
“But he’s 12. Isn’t there a school bus?”
“He likes bonding with me, Tori. I though … I thought you loved it when we bond.”
“Don’t you dare stroke my face and kiss me!”
Jade strokes Tori’s face and kisses her.
“Ugh! Why do you look like that? Who allowed you to be so hot? Fine!”
“You have to drive slowly anyway.”
They make it to Jasper’s school.
“He’s coming. We had to wait a while longer because it’s middle school, but he’s coming.”
Jasper comes in and enters the car. “Why did you bribe me to skip the bus?”
“Yeah. Why, Jade?” Tori asks.
“Why is Tori driving? Won’t you get in trouble?”
“Because her parents are paying me to get her confidence up and I’m sure I’ll get six in Latin if I help her.”
“Six in Latin?”
“Don’t look that up.” Tori says,
“Too late.” Jasper looks it up and then looks at Jade. “Really?”
“Jade, why are you corrupting your brother?”
“Sibling bonding.”
Tori drives to Sapphire’s house.
“Mom’s home with stepmom. They’ve been hanging out a lot.” He gets out of the car.
“Good job! You drove to my house!” She gives Tori a kiss on the cheek. They get out and enter the house. “Our moms don’t want us to bother them. So, homework, snacks, and television. Then you drive to y our house.”
“Why?”
“You have to go home eventually.”
Tori and Jade make it too her house, but Tori is still hyperventilating.
“We’re here.”
Tori starts to cry.
“We didn’t die though, Tori. You don’t need to cry.”
Tori can’t stop.
“Okay. Let’s get out and sit in the back.”
They sit there and hold onto each other.
“Tori. I promised Trina that she can beat me up if you cried again. I’m not ready for that. Are you mad at me?”
“No. I’m scared.”
“I know, Baby.”
“I am a baby!” She cries louder.
“Okay. I chose the wrong word. Let’s go inside.”
They go inside and Tori runs to her room.
“She drove home, but she cried the whole time.”
Trina and her parents sigh.
“I’m going to comfort her in her room.” She goes into Tori’s room.
“Room for one more?”
“Please?”
She gets in the bed.
“I’m here. It’s okay. We can work on your fears. You did well. Let’s just take a nap.”
She holds Tori and Tori starts crying.
“I’m sorry that I’m crying on your boobs.”
“That’s why they’re here.”
Jade holds her for a few seconds.
“I’m sorry about your shirt.”
“It’s not the same as that pillow I ruined when I was upset about Beck. Your grandmother didn’t deserve that.”
Tori cries harder. “My grandmother is dead!”
“I shouldn’t have worn a white shirt today or remind you of your grandmother. Let me just do this real quick.” She takes off her shirt and her bra. “Better?”
Tori sniffles and nods.
“Do you want to be topless, too?”
“Please?” Jade takes off Tori’s shirt and bra. Tori holds onto Jade and continues crying.
“Yeah. Just cry into the breasts. Let it all out on my warm bosom."
“They’re so much bigger than mine!” Tori cries louder.
“Yours are a good size, too.”
When Tori finally falls asleep from crying, Jade kisses her on the forehead. She puts her bra and shirt on and walks out. She’s met with Holly, David, and Trina.
“I’ll get there with her. I promise.”
“She cried all over your shirt.” Trina says,
“It’s fine.”
It’s now Tuesday and the group, minus Tori, is at the Asphalt Café.
“When she gets here, nobody ask about the driving.” Trina says.
Everyone nods. Tori enters.
“Hey.” They all say. Tori just mumbles and shrugs.
“How are things?” Robbie asks.
Tori mumbles and shrugs again.
“Oh, no! Tori’s a shrugger now!” Cat yells.
“Cat, don’t be ridiculous. She just needs help with driving.” Jade says.
Tori mumbles.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Jade yells.
“Jade, that’s my catch phrase!” Cat says
“Jade, you mentioned the driving! I just said don’t do that!”
“Forget that. Tori, look at me. We can do this. Look at my eyes. We’re getting this figured out.” She kisses her forehead.
“How?” Tori finally says.
“Girls’ night on Friday! In the meantime, we can still practice.”
“Girls’ night?” The girls say.
“But Cat and I—“
“I already said girls’ night, Robbie.”
“We can have a date another day, Robbie.” Cat grabs his face and they kiss until Sinjin and Burf approach the table.
“Robbie, how did you do it?” Sinjin asks.
“Huh?”
“How did you get a girlfriend?” Burf asks.
“Well—”
“It’s because he tries really hard to love me every day! I’m not that stupid anymore, so I decided to stay with him so nobody can steal him and HE’S MINE!” She then kisses Robbie repeatedly on the cheeks and forehead and on the lips for more than 10 seconds. “Gabriella can’t have you.”
“I think Cat pulls off the being a crazy and possessive girlfriend better than me.” Jade says
“Can we have a guys’ night?” Burf asks.
Robbie looks at Beck and André and they nod their heads and say “Friday.”
“Can we pick up chicks?” They ask
“Woah! You’re not there yet. We will see how you communicate with girls, but you two aren’t ‘pick up chicks’ ready.” Beck says.
“But how did Robbie—“
“Cat and Robbie just mesh well. They’re weird enough together that it makes sense. Sinjin, she might’ve used you to get him jealous, but you’re weirder than them.” Jade says.
Sinjin looks at Tori’s face being close to Jade’s chest. “I wish I were Tori right now.”
“See what I mean. She has boob privilege because I’m her girlfriend, not because she’s a weirdo.”
“Write that down, Burf.”
“You two can drive, right?” Robbie asks.
“Yeah.” They say.
Tori groans.
“We’re working on it.” Jade kisses Tori’s forehead and then her lips.
“Can you do that again?” Sinjin and Burf ask.
“Gross!” The four girls yell.
“And the feeling is gone.” Sinjin says.
“Sinjin!” They yell again.
“Maybe we start with not asking girls who date each other that question.” Beck says.
“Write that down, Sinjin.”
“Cat, you pick me up and then we go get Tori and Trina. Can you trust Tori with your car?”
“Kay kay. When do I pick you up, Jade?”
“I’ll text you when.”
“The convertible?” Tori asks
“Yeah! We can drive topless!”
Sinjin and Burf start to smile.
“Gross! Not like that! Robbie, your friends are weird!” Cat says.
“But so is he!” They say
“But he’s cute.”
“Write that down, Burf.”
“You two need help.” André says.
“That’s why we’re here.” They say.
“Psychological help.” Jade says.
“We know.” They say with their heads down.
“Burf, put the bell pepper down.” Robbie says.
Days pass. Tori continues getting help from Jade. It’s now Friday after school.
“When are they getting here?” Tori asks.
“Just wait. Be patient, Tori.” Trina says. She and Tori get texts. “We’re going out.”
“Where to?” Their parents ask.
“Girls’ Night. It’s a sleepover at Jade’s mom’s house. Jade’s making me drive Cat’s car a bit before we get there for practice.”
“Don’t ruin her car!” They say.
“Thanks for the pep talk.” Tori says sarcastically.
The girls leave.
“Holly, how much do you think we should pay Jade if Tori gets her license?”
“Maybe $400. Let’s just hope she gets it, David. Right now, we’re alone and we can have a date night without interruptions this time!”
“Good call! Get the fancy stuff!”
The girls are outside.
“Switch seats with Cat. You’re driving.”
“I know, Jade.”
“I’ll sit next to Cat.” Trina says
“Jade, you’re so pretty and everything, but why is Cat sitting in the back if this is her car?”
“One, you’re damn right I’m pretty. Two, it’s my plan.”
“Why did you have to call her pretty before asking that?” Trina asks
“If I didn’t it would sound like I didn’t want to be next to her. Also, she is really pretty.”
“That’s why you’re better than Beck. Give me your face.” She grabs Tori’s face and kisses her on the lips. “Now I want you to know that you are fine. Nothing bad is going to happen. From now on, we might sound different, but we still love you. Okay?”
“Okay. Why were you two late?”
“I had to drive home and then wait for Cat to pick me up. I waited too long because she was busy making out with Robbie.”
“I was!”
“Okay. One more kiss.”
The two girls kiss and Jade takes a deep breath.
“Now drive.”
“Why the sudden switch up in tone?”
“Just go, Tori!” Cat and Trina yell.
“Alright! Damn!”
At Karaoke Dokie, the boys gather together.
“Alright. So if you two want to be good at getting girls to think you’re cute, you have to play it cool. Watch what André and I do.” Beck says.
They sit and read their menus.
“But you two are just sitting.”
“Sinjin, just watch! The cool kids are up!” Rex says.
“Why did you bring Rex?” Sinjin says.
“I thought he would be good for you two so you don’t mess up.”
“I’m just here to mock you two for my amusement.”
“Rex, we’re here to boost their confidence.”
Two girls approach the table.
“Hey, we noticed you guys from the other table.”
“Do you mind if we sit here?”
“Northridge girls! My favorite kind! I’m Rex. The guy holding me is Robbie. Pretty boy in the flannel is Beck. Dread head is André.”
“Hannah.”
“Allie.”
“What about us?”
“Right. Right. Glasses is Sinjin and Afro is Burf.”
“Uh. Hi!” They both wave.
“Are any of you taken?”
“The guy holding me is.” Rex says
“Here’s my girlfriend. Catarina Valentine.”
They look at the picture of him and Cat.
“I’m gonna text her. I let the girls know you’re my girlfriend. Don’t worry. And send.”
“Sit.” Beck says.
They sit next to Sinjin and Burf.
“Uh. We go to Hollywood Arts.” Sinjin says.
“I’ve heard of that school.”
“What do you boys do?”
“I act.” Beck says.
“Acting and music. I play instruments.” André says.
“I too do acting and music. I sometimes even do stage work with these two.” Robbie points at Sinjin and Burf.
“Say something. You two are a bunch of stiffs.” Rex says.
The girls look at Rex and then Robbie. “Oh. He also has a talking puppet. What are those people called?”
“Ventriloquists!”
“Are you two really gonna let me pull more girls than you?”
The girls laugh.
“Is this how you got your girlfriend?” One of them asks.
“Yeah. You’re pretty interesting. She’s lucky to have you.”
“I play the guitar.” Robbie says.
“And I bet you’re an actor because you’re hot.” The other girl says while looking at Beck.
“I’m taller than six feet.” Sinjin says.
The girls look at Sinjin, but go back to looking at Beck.
Back in the car, Tori continues to drive. Cat reads the text Robbie sent her.
“He’s so sweet!”
“What did he do?” Trina asks.
“He made sure that some girls knew he’s taken.”
“How am I doing with my driving?”
“Anybody want food? Cat? Trina? Tori?”
“Huh? You’re making me drive to get food?”
“I can eat.” Trina says.
“Yay!” Cat says.
“Nobody had dinner yet, so we’re getting food, Tori.” Jade says.
“But is anyone actually hungry?” Tori asks
“Not really.” They say.
“So why drive?”
“Food sounds nice.” Cat says
“When you see the nearest Taco Guapo, get in the drive thru.” Trina says
“Can’t we go inside?”
“No.” They all say.
“Wait! nobody told me how I’m driving!”
“Nobody died in my car yet.”
“Cat!”
“She’s right, though.” Jade says.
“Alright. I’m in the drive thru line. How did I do?”
“So can we eat in the car, Cat?” Trina asks.
“No. We can go inside and eat. I don’t want my car dirty.”
“Good idea, Cat.” Jade said.
“But why was I told to go to the—“
Jade taps Tori’s hand. “You’re next in line, Tori.”
Tori groans.
Back at Karaoke Dokie, the boys are still talking to the girls.
Robbie gets a text from Cat. “Cat says Tori’s getting them Tacos!” He pulls out his phone “Sinjin and Burf are talking to Northridge girls. We’re eating right now. Don’t worry, they flirted with Beck, not me.”
“So, what are you guys doing here?” Hannah says. She and Allie start looking at Beck.
“Oh. It’s guys’ night and we’re trying to help our friends over here get girls.” Beck says.
“You sound so nice and polite.” Hannah says.
“I’m Canadian.”
“He’s exotic.” Allie says.
The food comes.
“Thanks for paying, um…”
“Sinjin.”
“Yeah. And…”
“Burf. Short for Burftholomew.”
“Interesting names.”
“Thank you, Allie.” They say.
“And your names again?” Hannah asks.
“André.”
“Robbie.”
“Beck.”
“Beck is such a cute name.” They say.
“Let’s eat!” Robbie says.
“I’m having a great time.” Sinjin says.
“Too early.” André says.
Tori and the other girls are at Taco Guapo
“Did everyone finish their restroom business?” Cat asks.
“Yeah.” They all say.
“Robbie is so sweet!”
“I could eat more. We didn’t eat much.” Trina says.
“Yeah, those tacos aren’t that filling. Let’s go somewhere else, Tori.” Jade says.
“Huh? How long am I going to drive?”
“To the nearest inside Out Burger.” Trina says.
“Fine.”
“Yay! More food!”
“Yes, Cat. My girlfriend wants to drive us to get more food.” Jade kisses Tori again.
“Ugh! Why are you my weakness?”
Back at Karaoke Dokie
“Wow, that puppet can sing!” Hannah says.
“How do they do that?” Allie asks.
Rex and Robbie come back to the table. Robbie continues eating.
“So, how was my singing?”
“How are you this talented?” Allie and Hannah say.
“Well, Rex really loves to sing.”
“Maybe we should all do some singing.” Beck emphasizes.
Sinjin and Burf stare at the girls until André snaps.
“Huh?” They say.
“Let’s get up and sing.” André says
“You two nerds can sing, right?” Rex asks.
The girls laugh.
Back to Tori, Trina, Jade, and Cat.
“Alright. My place.” Jade says
