chp1: The Dark Lord (aka Lord of Night)

Exhausted, the Lord of Night stepped back with a stumble, to admire his great work with half-lidded eyes. The formation of runes and circles shimmered and rippled, its size encompassing the entire expanse above head. It was so massive that the ends and edges could not be seen and it continued past the horizon line. The Lord of Night had succeeded in creating a sky for the Night Kingdom. He exhaled deeply and floated closer through the dark void to examine the fresh formation -or as fresh as it can be, considering the start of its creation was three thousand years ago- and gently stroked its surface.

The formation gave a deep rumble and purred contently, a ripple radiated outwards from the point of contact, settling down and slowly, little by little, tiny orbs of blue light tinged with streaks of sickly dark purple, drifted towards the wall of spells from the void on the other side. Sifting through the thick layers, the numerous orbs of souls glowed brighter as the stains of Ebonal corruption from the Ebonblight were filtered off, absorbed and purified into sustenance for the organism that is the formation, whilst the orbs float through unharmed.

The Lord of Night -he preferred to think of himself as- eased his tense spectrally-metaphorical shoulder, and drifted down alongside the dozens of new souls back to the ground of his realm. He laid down spread-angled as he continued to marvel at his feat of magic, as faint green energy from the sky softly illuminated his formless figure, drowsy from fatigue. Still, the Lord of Night examined the sky he had just constructed meticulously, scanning the mass expanse of a wall, alert for any disruptions in mana flow and holes in the net. Satisfied that the sky was working as it should -cleansing souls and converting corrosive Ebonal energy to sustain and repair itself- the Lord of Night stopped trying to stare a hole in his shiny new half-living dome, and considered his following plans. He could sleep off the exhaustion and refill his shockingly depleted mana pool - as expected of such an undertaking, although the mere sliver left is absolutely pitiful - , orrrr...he could nip up to the mortal realm to quickly see what he missed, THEN have a thousand year power nap.

The Lord of Night couldn't resist, after all, what could possibly go wrong?
