“Can I ask you some things before deciding?” Sebastian said.
“Understandable,” The Archivist said.
“Can you tell me when I was sealed?”
The Archivist turned her head to look at Sebastian, that… Was a question that she wasn’t expecting. “Around the time you were born.” She said.
The Archivist looked at Sebastian with curiosity, she wondered if he would be able to notice.
“So it must have been someone from my family,” Sebastian said.
The Archivist was rather surprised, the young boy had actually noticed the clue she left.
“What makes you say it?” The Archivist asked.
“Well you said that the seal was placed around the time I was born, meaning, it could have been when my mother was pregnant or just after my birth, knowing my grandfather, there is just no way someone would have been able to get close to my mother during those times, well, just my family, meaning that it must have been someone from my family who placed the seal on me” Sebastian answered.
“Quite the deduction,” The archivist said. “where did you learn to do that?”
“Me and my sister have been being trained since we had memory, physical training, mental training, spiritual training; you name it, if I were incapable of doing this much, then I would be a bigger failure,” Sebastian said.
The Archivist simply stared at Sebastian, he was indeed on the right track, it had been someone from his family, but, she would allow him to figure out who exactly was by himself.
“Stop thinking that you are a failure, if you agree to my offer, you’ll not only attune with a conduit, but with a very special conduit,” The Archivist said.
“Would I be able to use the conduit powers to find out who and why sealed me? Also, Will I be able to use the conduit to do what I decide to do after finding that information out?” Sebastian asked.
The Archivist looked at the young boy. His body was the body of a normal eight-year-old, his soul was the soul of an old man, and his mind, his mind was an amalgamation of both, the curiosity of a child but the wits of a person that has lived and survived multiple things in life.
“I only asked you to look for the forgotten that escaped, besides that, the conduit will be attuned to you, so, you can do as you wish” The Archivist answered.
“Then, I accept” Sebastian answered.
The Archivist, who had been moving her arms in strange patterns, in front of that strange Sphere, stopped at that moment. She turned her head and looked at the wolf entity.
“Mahvyr,” The Archivist said. “Become this young man conduit, will you?”
Mahvyr, the wolf-like entity, looked at Sebastian, he looked at the young boy from head to toe. Mahvyr's eyes seemed to be performing Sebastian’s body. If before, Sebastian had felt that he had been laid bare naked to be analyzed, in front of Mahvyr, Sebastian was being broken apart, atom by atom, and Mahvyr was looking at each atom with a suffocating attention to detail. Strangely enough, he didn’t feel the weight and pain he felt before, he felt more like a spec of dust that picked the attention of someone walking by.
“I agree” Mahvyr answered.
“Rejoice Chimeric Soul”
Mahvyr spoke, and its voice seemed to break reality apart, the beings that had terrified Sebastian not long ago seemed to be running away as far and fast as they could.
“For I”
“Mahvyr, Guardian of The Void”
“The Woven Shade”
“Have deemed you”
“The perfect holder to attune with me”
With each word that Mahvyr said, The Void seemed to tremble, to shake, to break and reconstruct. Sebastian felt his soul starting to resonate with Mahvyr, he felt his very existence changing.
The Archivist watched the scene with a smile, not many have ever seen the attunement of a holder and a conduit happen in real time. She saw how Mahvyr's paradoxical presence fused with Sebastian's paradoxical existence. Amrita itself was reacting to the event, from The Archivist's perspective, it even seemed that Amrita was approving of this event. Had Amrita always intended for Sebastian and Mahvyr to attune? The Archivist couldn’t avoid a sarcastic laugh escaping her lips, even for her, Amrita was still a mystery in many ways.
The Void now was illuminated by a strong green light, it had been a very long time since the last time The Void had been illuminated in such a way.
Several reflections of Sebastian started to appear, and each new reflection started to flicker in and out of existence, some of them appearing in different positions, The Archivist could see how Sebastian was moving between the reflections that had appeared of him, with each new reflection waves of black green light would ripple through the space of the void. Then a hollow black moon rose with a halo of emerald light that filled The Void.
The Archivist watched the scene with surprise, the reaction caused by the attunement with a conduit, depended heavily on the amount of Anima the holder had. The Archivist knew that Sebastian had an immense amount of Anima, but she had just figured that it was due to his past self, now, she could see, that the current Sebastian had a large amount of anima too, increasing the Anima one had was not easy, Anima was the strength of the soul, if you managed to find a way to strengthen your soul, then, increasing Anima would be relatively easy. But that an eight-year-old was able to increase his anima, well that was unheard of.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
“Well, it’s probably due to him being cut off from Amrita, his soul had to compensate for the lack of nutrients with its strength, now that his connection to Amrita is back, his soul is free to express its full strength, I wonder, how will that affect him” The Archivist spoke to herself, before going back to focus on the sphere.
With time, the attunement of Sebastian and Mahvyr was complete, now Sebastian had a living entity as his conduit.
“Now, go back, you can tell your family that you are attuned to a conduit so that they no longer consider you a failure”, The Archivist said, still completely focused on her sphere.
“I won’t” Sebastian answered. His expression was relaxed, the same as his body, he had a soft smile on his face. “I can’t really trust my family now, can I? I’ll keep this a secret for now and start looking into who could have sealed me, once I attune to a deeper level with Mahvyr I’ll think of revealing the information, for now, it would be too dangerous”
“You can also look for another conduit once you are ready, remember, you are a chimeric soul, thus, you can have more than one conduit” Mahvyr spoke directly into Sebastian's mind.
“That’s a good idea, but I would wait until you are more accustomed to having Mahvyr as your conduit, as you may have noticed he is quite the powerful conduit, so, attuning with another one right now could cause some issues, it could even lead you to fall,” The Archivist said.
“Fall?” Sebastian asked.
“It’s better if you go to rest now; too much information at the wrong time can also cause problems,” Mahvyr said.
“That’s also true” The Archivist confirmed Mahvyr's words. Then she waved her hand and a bridge of spectral light formed. “Follow that path and you’ll be able to go back to reality”
“Thank you,” Sebastian said giving The Archivist a small bow. “For everything”
“It’s a deal from which we both stand to win things, so, just keep your part of the deal” The Archivist answered.
Sebastian then began walking, following the bridge, now, he didn’t have to worry too much about the several ancient beings that were everywhere in The Void since they now showed him the same respect that they showed Mahvyr before. Reaching the garden of the building from which Sebastian entered The Void didn’t take too long. To get out of a Liminality, you needed to go back from the exact same place you went in thus, Sebastian would need to cross the garden and get back to the Alaric mansion.
Crossing that garden was much easier this time around. Eventually, he found himself back at the Alaric mansion garden. The mist was still there. This time, Sebastian realized that these were spirits from The Void that had been brought here to bring him back to The Void in case The Archivist had deemed it necessary.
“Get to your room” Mahvyr spoke. “Once you are there this Liminality will be completely closed, I can prevent any other liminality from being summoned here for some time, thus you won’t have to worry about being forced to go into another one trying to get you another conduit”
“Thanks” Sebastian answered.
The rest of the members of the Alaric Family were still shaken by the presence that had invaded their home. But as soon as Sebastian entered his room, the mist started to dissipate and with it, those strange beings started to disappear as well. Soon enough the world came back to normal, color came back, and, most importantly, the connection the members of the Alaric family had with their conduits came back. For a moment, peace reined in the Alaric Mansion.
Then, it started, it began with a simple call.
“What?” Clara answered the call.
“Praetor, we’ve been trying to reach you,” A female voice said. “For the last couple of hours, things have gone crazy”
“Explain,” Clara said.
“Many of our agents reported losing connections with their respective conduits, some reported strange things happening all over the world” The voice continued saying in a frantic tone. “We think we need you…”
“Today is my kid's birthday, I was informed that I wouldn’t be available a long time ago, so no, I won’t be coming over today,” Clara said firmly and then disconnected the call.
Then it was Arthur who received a call, the measurement equipment had gone crazy showing an Amrita anomaly like it had never been seen before.
“It affected the whole world?” Arthur was asking incredulously. “What could have caused something like this?”
“Well, according to some very old records that we have, we can assume similar things could have happened before when Gods descended into the world” A voice answered Arthur.
“We need to start researching this now” Arthur exclaimed excited at the prospect. “Maybe we could be on the verge of discovering a new God.”
At the same time, Celine was walking towards her room, still shaking from the experience.
I’m still weak, mom wasn’t faced with those things, she remained calm, I need to get better and be better.
She was feeling so weak at the moment, but even then, she was walking to check on her nephews on the way to her room, knowing her brother, he wouldn’t check to make sure his kids were safe, so, she decided to do it herself.
In his studio, Gerald was poring himself a big drink, when his wife entered in a rush.
“Was that…” Abigail started saying.
“Yes, yes it was” Gerald answered while still being focused on his drink.
“Hod did this happen?” Abigail was saying still scare from the whole ordeal. “Back then those maniacs did everything they could and never experienced something like this, why did this happen in our home”
“I don’t know, the only thing that could have triggered it was our grandkids trying to get a conduit”, Gerald said.
“But that went well,” Abigail said confused. “Aura got hers without issue and for Sebastian no Liminality open”
“Could it be that this is the liminality that open for him?” Abigail asked. “That a conduit from that place chose him…”
“Well it’s not unheard of that a conduit that is not in the vicinity chooses someone to take the test, but, we have no record of a conduit coming from that place, ever. If that’s what happened, then…”
“Then our grandson might be an objective from the government and that organization” Abigail finished Gerald's phrase.
“Let’s just keep an eye for now, see if he shows any signs of having attuned with a conduit, then we see what to do next,” Gerald said.
“OK” Abigail answered, then she grabbed her husband's hand. “Let’s go, I’m tired, and I need my husband next to me in order to sleep tonight,” She said while dragging Gerald.
Gerald simply smiled, sleep was something everyone in that house needed that night, and, sleeping next to his wife had always been one of the things he enjoyed.
