In the current year of 311, Large space colonies built into the side of asteroids and comets were extremely common. They were mazes of gray Towers, domes, and ports. One such colony, labeled as: ‘ Flash-Point Delta’ was the largest of its kind. It was a melting pot, being the only Colony exactly at the mid-point between the Sol system and other systems with confirmed life. Here, let's zoom in:
In a tower next to the central dome, on the 4th floor was a small one-room apartment. That by itself was hardly unique, but if you zoomed even further in, you’d be met with a very interesting case.
In this well-lit, well kept and clean room, was a single girl sitting at a small desk. The girl herself was the definition of neat; her black hair was tied up into a braided ponytail. Her clothes too, were well kept. The only details that betrayed this ‘perfect’ image of hers were her Gloomy facial expression, and the bags under her eyes.
This girl was gripping a piece of paper close to her face, her eyes zipping from one end of the page to the other as she mentally scanned for errors. After a minute of this, she took a deep breath and spoke with a confident yet tired voice. “Alright, let's go over this one last time, from the top.”
The girl allowed a yawn to escape her lips, and then stood up. She walked to a mirror in the corner of the room, stood to attention, and began to speak once again:
“Melodie Fendal. Here to present This year's Final essay; The Apollios Problem-” Yes, the girl we’ve zoomed into today was none other than Young Melodie, although she older now. we figured that the best way to view the realities of this world would be to transition from father to daughter.
“-In the year 301 of the Space calendar, The planet Uldon-V was destroyed by apollios. The annihilation of the planet caused a ripple that still affects the Galactic Federation to this day. Namely 2 things: First was the induction of 1000 Uldonish immigrants into the greater community. Second was the realization and recognition of the danger of Apollios-”
Indeed, it’s been 10 whole years since that fateful day, not only was there chaos when attempting to calm all of those unfortunate people down, but there was also chaos on the political front. Should the well-off truly have to give up their own free space in the service of those who weren’t? It’s a highly debated topic, and many of the Uldonish still have yet to step foot on a planet since the destruction of their own.
“At least 6 planets have been lost to Apollios since then. And many more have had to be evacuated until the problem could be remedied. For people my age and younger, this Apollios problem can feel like just a way of life that the adults have breakdowns over, however-”
However Melodie Fendal knows… she’s bore witness to the darkness that surrounds Apollios. Present for the Uldon-V disaster, and being the daughter of two people responsible for creating the A.A.S has given her a clear view of this topic.
“- The governments of Orion's arm, and the A.A.S have been working tirelessly to find ways to do more against Apollios, and in a few months, plan to unveil their countermeasures to the public…Oh”
With a thud, Melodie’s body quietly gives up. Her legs buckle and she falls to the floor. The tired girl can only sigh as she uses her free hand to push her body up and lean up against her bed. The girl looks down at the paper in her other hand, and brings it closer to her, she groans as she scans the paper again.
“This…Isn’t acceptable, It gives away too much private information.” Melodie promptly crumbles up her script, she lets it roll to the floor. In a bid of frustration, the sleep-deprived girl quickly uses the side of her bed as a crutch to stand up once more, and she forces her numb legs back into her desk chair.
With new determination, our Heroine reaches for a pencil with one hand and opens her notebook with another. “This damned presentation Won’t beat me! I’m the daughter of those who traveled the cosmos, ended regimes, and slain dozens of monsters, I am Melodie Fendal! And I refuse to let it end here!”

With her newfound determination and willpower, our Heroine valiantly worked on her essay, for about, 2 minutes anyway. She quickly fell to the Sirens song known as rest. How unfortunate.

I don’t remember what I was just doing…but I knew where I was; I found myself standing on a rocky asteroid or comet of some kind. For some reason I could breathe, even though I was in the middle of nowhere-space without a spacesuit, the air was the cleanest and most refreshing I’d ever experienced.
I really did know this place! I was here before, this was… this was… I can’t put my finger on it. But I knew in my heart of hearts that I’d definitely been here. My eyes began to frantically dart around the area, looking for a landmark I could recognize.
In the distance, I could see the top of some kind of old building. The distant light of a shining star cast shadows on the structure and made it impossible to figure out what I was looking at. I turned my attention to another direction. More rocks, a bit of dust, space, My father's spaceship-- wait what?
Yes, I was standing directly in front of it. It’s a wonder I hadn’t noticed it beforehand. I swiftly turned around, kicking a small cluster of dust as I did. My father's ship, Its teal paint job was just as pristine as I remembered. I ran up to the ship, kicking up even more dust, but I didn’t care It had been years since I last saw it.
…Wait…
“That here, Yes.” I turned around again. And ran in the direction of that voice. I knew that voice, I’ll never forget that voice. As the dust settled, I found myself standing Inside the sleek walls of a ship. Those 3 important people were standing in front of me.
My father, and my mother, And my Uncle. The 3 of them stood in front of a hatch that was slowly opening. I excitedly opened my mouth, in preparation, I had so many things I wanted to tell them! But… before I could do anything of the sort, My father spoke once more;
The man reached down and gave my head a gentle pat before clearing his throat. “Melodie, your mom and I- and T too, I guess. We have to go.”
My father removed his hand from the top of my head and continued speaking. “Ah- wait, don’t cry! We’ll only be gone for 6 hours, Max.”
Following that, My mother crouched down, and wrapped her arms around me, I felt no warmth; I wondered if it always felt this empty. Tears were beginning to stream down my mom's face as she spoke. “It’ll be okay… we’ll be back before you know it, and your Auntie Lisa will be here to play with you!”
…
My mother hugged me tighter, and as she did, her promises became emptier. “When we get back, We’ll have all the tools we need to make your life the best, ever! We’ll be able to go to that amusement park you wanted to-- as many times as you like, so please sit tight, okay?”
After a few quiet seconds, my mom quickly released me. And she just as speedily stood up and turned around. The other two were already walking through the now-open hatch- into a deep purple haze. I watched in silence as the backs of my family disappeared into an abyss. And slowly but surely… that abyss grew and grew, it overtook all of my surroundings. The sleek walls of the ship stood no chance, quickly replaced by an endless mist.
After what felt like an endless moment, a familiar sound began to ring in my ears. I suppose it’s time to wake up now…
--
In the current year of 311-- Wait, I lost my place, while she was sleeping, here we go, found it;
As Melodie’s Alarm blared throughout her small room, Her eyes shot open with a surprising amount of speed. She stood up and quickly moved over to her alarm, she slammed the power button down and sat down on her bed in silence for 5 seconds.
Her face was the perfect example of that serene expression people have after first waking up, but when her gaze drifted towards her desk, she frowned. The girl’s right eye began to twitch with annoyance as she reached for her pillow, and grabbed it with her right hand. With her pillow in hand, she brought it to her face and screamed into it.
