THE MISSION

  > [Military Headquarters – Mission Preparation Room]

Luna leaned her back against the cold metal wall. She was filled with that familiar tension she always felt before a battle. She clenched and unclenched her fists. Her fingertips warmed momentarily, but she tried to keep herself calm. At the same time, she was thinking about the day she and her brother were taken from the orphanage. That day, she thought their lives had ended with all its cruelty and that they would finally have a better life. That was until the first injection... After that day, life had never smiled upon her again. As she thought about these things, her fingertips began to grow even hotter.

Boris glanced at her out of the corner of his eye while checking his weapons. "Burning yourself again, Ild?"

Luna frowned but didn’t respond. Alex, placing a liquid-filled tube on the table, intervened. "Boris, give her some space."

There was one more person in the room. The man the team disliked the most: Tom. He was leaning against the edge of the table, watching them with a mocking smile. Tom had always been by the side of the commander who held them captive, and whenever something happened, he would immediately report it to the commander.

Tom: "Hey, don’t get too comfortable. This mission... it’s not ordinary."

Luna glared at him angrily. "What do you mean?"

Tom raised the order sheet. "Commander John’s special order. A new test: You’ll be injected with rage serum to measure your emotional response."

An icy silence fell over the room.

Alex narrowed his eyes. "What kind of test are you putting us through?"

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

Tom’s smile widened. "After the rage serum is injected, you’ll be ordered to attack an orphanage."

Luna’s heart turned to ice. She thought about her past. The orphanage... Those innocent children seeking a safe and loving home...

Luna's eyes widened, and a look of shock spread across her face. Attacking an orphanage... This wasn’t just a mission for her; it was a direct assault on her past. The heat in her fingertips was now unbearable, and small flames began to flicker from her palms. But Luna tried to control her power, taking a deep breath.

Boris put his weapons down on the table and took a firm step toward Tom. "We’re not accepting this nonsense. No matter what Commander John says, this is a crime against humanity."

Tom didn’t lose his mocking smile. "You don’t have a choice. Either you follow orders, or... you face the consequences."

Alex moved closer to Luna and gently touched her shoulder. "Stay calm, Luna. We’re not going to play their game."

Luna looked into Alex’s eyes, and the anger inside her slowly turned into determination. "You’re right," she whispered. "This time, we won’t fall into their trap."

Tom, seeing their resistance, began to lose his smile. "What are you planning? Are you going to defy Commander John?"

Luna slowly walked toward Tom. There was a fire burning in her eyes. "Yes, Tom. This time, no one will stop us."

The tension in the room grew thicker. Boris and Alex stood by Luna’s side, forming a wall against Tom. Tom had completely dropped his mocking attitude, replaced by a look of unease.

Tom: "This is suicide! Commander John will never forgive you!"

Luna took the final step, closing the distance between herself and Tom. "Then let him try to stop us."

Tom was forced to step back and headed for the door. "I’ll report this conversation to the commander. See you around."

After Tom left the room, Luna, Boris, and Alex looked at each other. There was no turning back now. They had defied Commander John’s orders, and the consequences could be severe.

Alex took a deep breath. "So, what do we do now?"

Luna, with determination in her eyes, replied: "First, we find and destroy those rage serums. Then, we take action to put an end to this cruelty."

Boris picked up his weapons again. "I’m ready. This time, we’re fighting not just for ourselves, but for the innocent children in that orphanage."

Luna looked at her team and felt the fire inside her spreading to them. She was no longer just a soldier; she was a revolutionary. And this revolution would bring an end to Commander John’s reign.
