Chapter 1

Millennia ago, during the Dark Age of Technology, ancient Corvunia encountered an alien species that the Corvun referred to as "The Beakless." These beings were humans, settlers from the now-lost empire of the United Systems of America (US), which sought to colonize Corvunia as part of its expansive interstellar projects. Corvunia's exotic natural gas—a critical resource for fueling the warp drives of US starships—drew these colonists to the planet.

The Corvun, who lived in decentralized city-states at the time, documented their initial encounters with the humans in historical texts. One such account was written by Kaelus, a renowned historian whose work, The Corvish Chronicles, remains a vital resource for understanding this period. The chronicles, written in ancient Corvun Greek and later adapted into Corvish (a hybrid of Corvun Greek and English), provide vivid descriptions of these encounters. Below is an excerpt:

"The Beakless things still wander around the harsh grounds of Corvunia, seemingly unafraid of the beasts that lurk in its shadows. Some of them have strange things that dig into the ground, as if fishing for worms. The other Beakless stand nearby, holding peculiar weapons and wearing black uniforms adorned with a repeating symbol."

Kaelus also included a sketch of the emblem, which read "UNITED SYSTEMS ARMY" alongside the flag of the United Systems of America.

"I tried walking up to the Beakless things to ask what they were doing and why they fished the ground. They did not speak our tongue, but one of them used a strange device that allowed it to speak in my language, though awkwardly. It said, 'We are drilling to collect exotic gas, primitive.' I felt great offense at being called 'primitive' by these Beakless ground-fishers. I left, fearing their strange tools might harm me, and reported my findings to the chiefs of the city-states. They needed to know of these strange beings and their actions."

This passage captures one of the earliest encounters between the Corvun and the US colonists, who likely represented a mining crew guarded by the United Systems Army. However, these interactions, fraught with misunderstandings and cultural clashes, foreshadowed greater conflicts to come.

As time passed and the Age of Strife approached, the US colony on Corvunia began to crumble. Political polarization and a failed coup within the United Systems led to its collapse, leaving the Corvun world unsupported. Stranded without resupply or reinforcements, the human settlers dwindled and eventually perished.

The technology left behind by these settlers, however, endured. One ambitious Corvun tribe scavenged and adapted this technology, drawing inspiration from US cultural principles such as democracy and industrialization. This tribe became the foundation of what would eventually be known as the Corvus Republic, a sovereign state that enshrined these ideals in its governing documents.

The most significant of these documents is the Corvun Constitution, a modified version of the US Constitution translated into Corvun Greek. Below is the complete text in both Corvun Greek and Low Gothic, the latter included for accessibility.

It is like the same, translated for both Corvun Greek and Low Gothic speakers. It is also updated into the Current reiteration of the Corvun Bill of Rights as of today.
