The Threads of Existence

Magic in this world is rooted in the very fabric of reality itself. The Weave is an intricate lattice of energy that binds together all aspects of existence, but it is far more than just a passive force—it is alive, pulsing with the power to shape and alter the world around it.

The Weave consists of countless Threads, each representing a fundamental aspect of life. These Threads weave together the fabric of reality, from the flow of Time, to the pulse of Life and Death, to the weight of Matter and the emptiness of the Void. Emotion itself is a Thread, influencing everything from personal decisions to the flow of entire civilizations.

At the heart of the magic are the Weavers, individuals born with the ability to manipulate these Threads, to "stitch" and "unravel" the very fabric of existence.

Threadbinders are the artisans of reality, capable of manipulating Matter to alter objects and even heal wounds by re-aligning the Threads that make up physical forms.

Echo Callers are gifted with the power to listen to the Weave, hearing past events, conversations, and movements that have left their mark. This ability makes them powerful seers, able to replay the history that exists in the threads of Time.

Horizon Walkers can step between the folds of the Weave, traveling instantaneously across space or seeing brief glimpses of alternate timelines. Their ability allows them to shift between realities, exploring the endless possibilities that branch out from every moment.

Tearbringers, perhaps the most dangerous of all, can sever the Weave entirely, causing chaos and tearing rifts in the fabric of existence. Their magic is wild and unpredictable, sometimes pulling in creatures from the Void—dark, horrifying entities that lurk in the spaces between worlds.

But every use of the Weave comes at a cost. The magic is not free; each time a Weaver manipulates the Threads, they fray their own Thread. With each spell, the Weaver shortens their own lifespan, distorting their fate. The most powerful Weavers, those who push the boundaries of their abilities, risk Unraveling—becoming part of the Weave itself, lost to time and reality.

  Author’s Note

Weave. There are four main categories of Weavers, each with a distinct way of interacting with the Threads that shape existence:

  1. Manipulation These Weavers alter reality directly, reshaping Matter, healing wounds, and reinforcing structures. (Example: Threadbinders)

  2.
  3. Listening These Weavers hear the echoes of time, past events, and hidden knowledge within the Weave. (Example: Echo Callers)

  4.
  5. Walking These Weavers move through space and time, slipping between possibilities or traversing great distances instantly. (Example: Horizon Walkers like Arcon and Seraphia)

  6.
  7. Severing The most dangerous of all, these Weavers can cut the Threads of existence, tearing rifts into the Void itself. (Example: Tearbringers)

  8.

subcategories based on their skillset. There are too many to list as every Weaver’s connection to the Weave is unique.

Weavers are inherently stronger than the average non-Weaver. Their deeper connection to the Weave grants them a kind of harmony with their own bodies, allowing them to naturally heal small wounds over time. However, they are not godlike beings. Every act of weaving comes at a cost fraying their own Thread and shortening their lifespan.

Arcon can perform high-level techniques such as "stopping time" but in reality she is creating a Temporal Fold, an area where time is drastically slowed. She can’t do this on a large scale or for too long or else she risks Unraveling, a fate worse than death where she ceases to exist entirely. To conserve her strength she uses it in controlled bursts, limiting the range to avoid fraying her Threads too quickly.

Seraphia, another Horizon Walker, has a different skillset. Rather than slowing time, she creates pockets of folded space, existing in another plane just outside reality’s reach. While inside, she can observe and move without being seen, making her an expert at hiding in plain sight. However, remaining in this hidden fold for too long drains her as maintaining an independent space separate from the Weave’s natural flow puts immense strain on her Thread.

Benedict, for example, is a Weaver who manipulates the Weave to enhance himself. While he may not shape reality directly like a Threadbinder, his magic allows him to push his body beyond normal limits sharpening reflexes, reinforcing his physical form, and heightening his senses.

Weaving is an art, a risk, and a sacrifice. Those who push too far may touch greatness or lose themselves to the Weave forever.
