Sariel woke up and saw that it was getting close to dawn. He felt Death’s breathing on his left breast. She was still sleeping, soundly and completely calm. “Oh my, you are so gorgeous.” He thought as he looked at her. Her white hair and full red lips were like a magnet to his eyes and the smell of her skin like a dagger to his heart. He was just staring at her for a few minutes and then looked at the ceiling, thinking. “Girls are still sleeping, except for Catherine of course. Early bird as always. So much we need to do today. But Eliana is our priority. I will let Mori take the lead on this, it will be better for Eli.”

Suddenly he felt a hand on his face pulling his face back to the left.

“Good mor…” He could not finish the sentence as a kiss blocked his mouth. He leaned in and moved his body to the same level as Death as he wrapped his hands around her body in a hug.

“It really is a good morning.” Said Death as she finally let go of his lips. “I had the best sleep ever.” She stroked his face and moved her thumb across his lips. She kissed him again. “Let’s make this morning even better, shall we?” She said, pushed him on his back and moved on top of him.

Eliana woke up and saw that Lailah just stretched her body and got up. She sat on the bed and looked out the window, it was already late morning, she must have overslept. Yet, she was still tired. When she turned around she noticed that Lailah moved to the side of the bed and placed her head into Eliana’s lap with a deep sigh and chuff. Eliana froze for a quick second but then the fear went away as quickly as it came in the first place. She placed her hand on top of Lailah’s head and scratched her a bit. Lailah let out a sound that Eliana recognized as a pure bliss. This was nice. Really nice. The fur of Lailah was soft like silk, which was unexpected. Suddenly she started licking Eliana’s hand and it felt like a stone surface on her skin. She sat like that for quite a while, but eventually Lailah got up, licked her face, which Eliana found very nice but not so much the morning breath, and moved out of the room. Eliana eventually got up and dressed in her clothes, hearing voices from outside. She moved out of her room into the kitchen and realized that there was a breakfast for her ready on a table, which she decided to skip and moved to the door.

“Oh no you don’t, you will eat before you go out.” A familiar voice of Eva came from behind her as she was just leaving one of the rooms.

  “But I…”

“Come on, the day will not run out over one breakfast. You need your strength and trust me, better me to tell you than Catherine.” Eva interrupted her protest quicker than she could even start it and motioned her to the table.

Eliana took a seat and ate her breakfast. They chatted with Eva about her sleep and it looked like she was examining her, which she was. After some time she finally took the last bite and they both headed outside of the house to join the others. Eliana saw Sariel chopping wood and to the side of the training ground while Catherine was carrying it to the storage, Death and the other girls were taking care of the garden and the trees. Once Eliana wished them a good morning they all waved at her and continued, only Sariel and Death stopped and looked at each other.

“Catherine, will you take over please?” Asked Sariel and handed her the axe which she accepted graciously.

“If anything, let me know.” She said and got to chopping.

  “Always.”

Sariel and Death exchanged looks and moved in the direction where Eliana and Eva stood, Eva understood and exchanged with Death and joined the others. Sariel stopped for a second to wash his face in the barrel next to the house but eventually he joined the two of them.

“How did you sleep?” He asked.

Eliana knew that the moment had come. She felt the tension in the air from them.

“Good. So, what will happen now?” She asked and saw that Sariel and Death exchanged looks.

“Now, we will talk and see where that takes us.” Said Death. “Will you be more comfortable outside or inside of the house?”

  “Outside probably.”

“Very well, you ladies pick a spot and I will get us some water and join you.” Said Sariel and moved in. He knew what he was doing, better let Death take the lead than him in this situation.

Death and Eliana picked a spot right next to the lake and for a brief moment watched the surrounding paradise, talking about how beautiful it is and how calm everything seems to be, despite the outside world. After a short while there was a brief moment of silence as Lailah strolled around them, bumped into Eliana and moved out of the walls.

“What would you like to know?” Eliana asked.

Death looked at her with a calm expression. “Before I ask you, you should know what Sariel and Gabi found in your house. That question must be burning like a fire in your head.”

Death briefly explained what Sariel, Gabi and Lailah went through during the night and saw that Eliana was in shock and felt like it was her fault. The pain she felt and the blame was nothing like she ever felt before. Agonizing, to the point of tears and twitching muscles, this was all her fault, they could have died because she exists!

“You are not to be blamed and nobody here does blame you for anything, so the only thing that is left is this, don’t you even think about blaming yourself. Sariel, Gabi and Lailah are fine and you had nothing to do with this, do you understand? You cannot foresee the future or any events that might happen, you are a soul caught in a play of forces you cannot control dear. Erase that from your mind and don’t be afraid, they would not let anything happen to you. Everything will be just fine.” Said Death and saw that Eliana calmed a bit. She wiped a tear from her face.

“What do you remember from your early childhood? Let me explain why I’m asking that. For a female in this world you are very much educated, even beyond things that some of the clergy knows, like purgatory. Which brings interest and could explain some things.” Asked Death. She knew that asking these questions will occupy Eliana’s mind and will force the feeling of blame more and more away.

Eliana explained to her that from an early age she was taught about the bible, but that it was always confusing to her because it did not exactly match with the stuff that the priest said in the church. She explained that her parents were more focused to teach her about demons and the devil, hell and purgatory and how things work more practically than the church let people know. Death listened with ears wide open and analyzed every word she said. Sariel was not far behind, he stood not so far with the refreshments, not too close that Eliana would notice him, but close enough to hear.

“So I know about these things, hell and demons, saints and angels. My mother taught me how to read and write in Latin and my dad used to teach me what he called a constant “meditation”. He said that I should always have my mind in control and not let my thoughts wander or be otherwise bent. He always said “You have to be a master of your own mind Eliana, for the time may come when the world around you will feel familiar, but that will be a trick by the dark forces. Never let them get to you!” I didn’t know what he meant by that, but he said it numerous times when I was younger. I remember one time that I asked him about why he was teaching me all of these things and he always just said: “So that you will be strong, my little Eliacta!” He always called me that. Ever since I remember he used to call me that. Mom scolded him for it several times, but he liked it and turned it into our secret game. He also always said that my mom loves me very much, it seems like he tried to remind me of that every day.”

Sariel moved closer and let his presence known to Eliana, he placed the water in front of them and Eliana immediately took one cup to her hands and took a sip.

“Can I ask you, there was a relief on the wall in your parents room. Do you know what it is?” Asked Sariel. Death gave him an uneasy look. She did not like the straightforward question and thought that it might be better to move a bit slowly to the topic.

“The Fall of Adam and Eve. Yes, I do know. Why do you ask?”

“You did not find anything strange on the relief? Something that might catch your eyes?”

Eliana thought deeply for a few seconds. Was she missing something?

“No, not really. It was beautifully made, but nothing comes to mind.”

Death realized where he was trying to go, but knew that this would not work.

“What were your parents like Eliana? Apart from what they were teaching you?” Asked Death to move the subject.

“Oh, they were amazing. I remember my mom always made me sweets whenever possible and my father always brought something new when he ventured into Jerusalem. Something that we could talk about or use around the house. He was also always nice to our servants, until recently probably like a month ago when he got them all changed for new ones, but they left as soon as my parents died. Never understood why and neither did my mother. We led a good life, my mom taught me during the day, all sorts of things and when my father came back home he always told me stories from the bible and some others. Legends and folklore. He also tried to teach me some language but I never grasped it, but he was patient. Said that the time will come when this will be almost natural to me. We also prayed a lot. Especially to Mary as my mother said. But it was different from the prayer in Church.”

“How different was it?” Asked Death.

“It is said like this: “Ave Mater Omnium, gratia vetita plena, Virtus Scientiae tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Messias. Mater Creationis, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora vitae nostrae. Amen.”

Sariel and Death exchanged looks. Eliana looked up to the skies for a second and visualized her parents, happy and loving to her and each other and the house with a loving atmosphere and good food.

“I wish I could come back there.” She said and wiped a single tear from her face.

“Do you want to? You want to see your home?” Asked Sariel.

“Part of me does, I feel like it would be easier to explain certain things, but from what Rei told me it cannot happen.”

Death placed a hand on her shoulder. “It might be during the day. I don’t want to boast but I believe that I might be able to secure the house enough for us to go in there.”

Sariel smiled because he knew exactly what she was thinking. She will send reapers to surround the house so that they could enter together and with her by their side nobody would dare to come to cross them.

“Really? So we could really go?” Eliana asked with excitement in her voice.

“Let me make the preparations and get ready. We will go in a moment. Can you tell Catherine to get ready and to gather everyone who would like to come as well?” Said Death and motioned Eliana towards Catherine. Eliana nodded and got up. When she left, Death looked at Sariel who exchanged looks with her.

“You don’t like something, don’t you?” She asked.

“I have a feeling that something is not right, yes. Plus that was not a prayer to Mary, not at all. Mary is not the mother of Creation. There is something her parents tried to hide from her, or maybe for her in that prayer. I don’t know what it is yet, but something is not right about what she said. Why would they teach her all these things only to lie to her about a simple household prayer? And why did she not notice Lilith on the relief in her house?”

“It could be tied to the word “Mother” from the church.”

“You are right, but which one? So far we have three mothers, Eve, Mary and Lilith. Mary came later in history so the probability of her being the one from the papyri is less probable. But Eve and Lilith, those are some powerful figures. This poor child is living life inside of a power struggle or some other scheme. Makes me angry.” He said and Death saw him clench his fist on his knee.

“But you were correct in your assessment, the only way to find out is to go inside that house. She will open more, can you just make amendments to her soul so that she will, you know?”

Death smiled. “Already did. Come on, let’s get you ready, I have everything I need with me.” She got up and Sariel as well. They saw all of the girls rush into the house.

“That will be quite a party going. Feels like old times.” Said Sariel and laughed. They came inside the house and heard the preparations of the girls in their rooms. As they entered Sariel’s room he felt Death’s hand on his shoulders and turned around.

“Will you wait for me for just a second?” She said and motioned to him to close his eyes.

Sariel was confused but did as she asked. He felt her presence disappear for a few seconds and then appear once again.

“Keep them closed.” She said as she started to undress him. Piece by piece she took down most of his clothing and she was guiding his arms and other parts of his body to move with her hands. He felt something heavy, but quite familiar to be put on his shoulder and then he felt the rest of the armor forming on him, part by part, piece by piece. He did not believe it. Could it be?

“My old armor?” He asked in shock. Death kissed him on his right cheek. “Where did you get this? I thought that they would surely destroy it when I have left.”

“Well, they wanted to, but my hands were quicker. I hid it in purgatory, out of Michael’s eyes.” She said and giggled. “It suits you, even though you are no longer The Wraith and you don’t have wings, plus your armor here was damaged in the fight. And you look very…how should I put it…attractive in this armor. Always had.”

“So you were lookin at me even when I was younger? You fox!” He laughed and held her face in his hands. The armor separated when he touched her so that his skin would feel hers. For some reason this shocked Death.

  “Wait. How?” She asked.

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

“You don’t know how? Let me give you a hint.” He said and kissed her passionately, when he moved his body closer to her the armor separated completely and she felt his skin with her hand.

Suddenly they heard knocking and looked at the door. Catherine stood on the other side with her back to the wall of the room, so that she would not see in.

“We are ready.” Said Catherine and smiled. She did not see what was happening inside, but she could imagine. She was happy for him, truly happy.

“Catherine, where are they? This suit is not meant to be worn while sitting on my butt like this!” They heard Gabrielle screaming from the kitchen.

Sariel and Death laughed but gathered themselves and left the room, straight to the kitchen. When Sariel entered all of the girls dropped their jaws. Sariel stood there in a silvery armor that covered every part of his body. With chestplate highly decorated in all sorts of symbols and shapes like feathers, on his shoulders were pauldrons that made him look wider than ever, curved outward on the top so they hid parts of his face, with large horns that looked very sharp even from far, on his hands were gauntlets the were tight to his body and on their ends were almost like claws of an eagle. On his waist he had additional pieces of plates like faulds for protection and his legs were completely covered in armored greaves and sabatons. His back was covered in a dark red and black coat with the same fabric and style with a nine shaped star on it.

“How come I don’t get one of those?!” Shouted Catherine and everyone laughed, but were still amazed.

All of the girls were dressed in their adventuring gear, only Catherine had partial armor, especially made to cover her upper body. All of them had their cloaks with the same color as their usual dresses, only Gabrielle had her armor on her that she wore the previous night.

Death left the house and all of the girls followed her. They moved to the training area and Death pointed them to form a group circle.

“What will happen now?” Asked Eliana and Death turned around.

“Now, we shall travel. Just be careful everyone, for those who experience it for the first it could be, let’s say not pleasant.” She said and a symbol appeared under each of them which then glowed like a moon in the night. Some of the girls cheered but Eliana got scared, until Death approached her and said: “Don’t worry, I’m going with you.” For a few moments Eliana saw earth under her, from a bird's perspective. She saw buildings and people travelling under her, far under her. It was almost like if she stood on top of a floating mountain that traveled with a speed of light through the skies. They landed in front of Eliana’s old house and she tried to catch her breath and not to puke.

“Breathe. Nothing to be feared.” Said Death and held her shoulder. Eliana took a minute to gather herself and looked in front of her. She could not believe it. In a matter of seconds they traveled in front of her old home! She saw Sariel and the girls looking somewhere and talking to someone, but no one was there.

“What are they doing?” She asked and pointed at the group.

Death turned around. “They are talking to one of my reapers, an old friend of Sariel. Could have guessed that he might show up when I called them and gave them specifics. But I guess that you cannot see them. Correct?”

Eliana shook her head, trying to visualize something, but nothing was there. She just realized. “Wait, what do you mean, them?”

Death placed her hand on Eliana’s forehead and Eliana immediately felt a force rushing to her head. She felt dizzy for a second and closed her eyes but as soon as the weird feeling came, it was gone again. She opened her eyes and saw that her house was surrounded by at least twenty different people, all dressed in white and black robes that covered their entire body and one of them was speaking to Sariel and the rest of the girls. Only Gabrielle was missing. Death motioned Eliana to join the rest of the group. As they got close they heard Sariel and the man talking.

“As soon as I heard the call, I knew I had to come to see you. All of you.” Said the man.

“How do you know each other?” Asked Idit.

“Well I was one of the first with the new purpose I took my life after my love died and was supposed to be sent to hell. Thankfully, Sar and Miss Death came to me and offered me this purpose.” He said and noticed that Death approached them. He welcomed her with a low bow.

“Shimon, good to see you.” Said Death and bowed her head.

“Ma’am. Everything is ready and the house is secured. We will watch the surroundings as you ordered and make sure that while you are here everything will be safe. Miss Gabrielle and Miss Lailah are already inside with the second unit.” Said Shimon.

Sariel grabbed his shoulder. “Thank you my friend.” He said and moved past him. Shimon bowed to all the girls and Death and they all slowly made their way to the house. Sariel waited for the girls and together they entered through the main door to Eliana’s old home. Inside stood several other people in line from the door and others inside the room, men and women dressed in the same clothes as Shimon and when they saw the group enter they all bowed before Death.

“Ma’am.” They all proclaimed their respect. Suddenly they all smashed their fists into the left side of their chest like if they wanted to crush their own heart and looked at the group. Eliana got scared and other girls widened their looks.

“They really know how to show their respect to you, Rei.” Said Sarah.

“This salute is not for me.” Said Death with a smile and looked at Sariel.

Sariel looked at the group and returned the salute. “May your battles be swift and your peace eternal, my friends.” He said and bowed before them.

The girls were amazed but quickly gathered themselves.

“Everything is secure. I’m absolutely sure that nobody can come close to this house.” Said Gabrielle as she strolled down the steps from the second floor. “We can continue.” Eliana noticed that behind her was Lailah, the only member of the group she did not see coming with them.

Eliana took a step forward and felt immense pressure on her, but she also felt calm. She is not alone in this house and has her newly acquired friends by her side. She looked at the walls.

“These writings started to appear as soon as my parents died. I never knew what they meant and when I tried to clean them but it was impossible. Nothing worked.”

“These are Akkadian invocations.” Said Sarah and moved closer to the wall. “It is an ancient tongue spoken before the Tower of Babel incident. They are speaking of a mother and her children, of an upcoming storm and the return of the burning flower. But it could be meaning something else, these are written with so many mistakes and the writing is like if someone made it while his hands were shaking.” She reached into her satchel and pulled out a papyri and a piece of charcoal. Eliana saw that she was transcribing the writings on the wall there and saw how much focus Sarah pushed into the task.

“If you find anything suspicious please, let us know. You know what you have to do. I do hope that you don’t mind Eliana?” Said Sariel and touched her shoulder.

Eliana nodded and the girls scattered around the room and Judith moved upstairs with Gabrielle. The only group that was left was Sariel, Death and Eliana. Eliana watched the girls go upstairs and ventured the same way up. She moved directly into the master bedroom and saw the horrors of the previous night still visible there, the cracked walls and the stench, traces of blood. She looked behind her and saw Sariel motioning to not bother herself with these and focus on herself and what she wanted to find. They all entered the room.

“My parents used to sleep here, and me as well when they died. It felt almost like I was close to them. Like when I was a child and slept here with them. I even dreamed that they were here, with me, almost as if I could have seen them.” She said and shivered. “Is this the place where you got attacked?”

“Yes. This is the place where I fought with Legion.” Answered Sariel and moved to take a look at the relief on the wall. The face of Lilith was still there. Eliana turned around to meet his gaze and stood next to him.

“You asked if I saw something weird on this relief, but I see nothing. It seems normal, northing out of the ordinary.” Said Eliana and studied the relief closely. “The only thing is that crack over there at the bottom, this was not here before. You see, right there where the table had hit it.”

Sariel saw that she was right. In the moment when he fought Legion and was thrown at this table it probably hit the wall and made a crack. But this seemed weird. The walls were not supposed to be hollow, yet a crack with visible space behind it was there. Sariel dropped down to inspect it. Death came closer to Eliana and decided to push her a bit into seeing the relief for what it is.

“Eliana, look at me please.” She said and Eliana turned to face her. She was now standing with relief on the left side of her. “Now I want to search within you for your own self preservation instinct. It is gonna be tough, but it might work. Are you ready?” She asked with a serious face.

Eliana gulped and nodded her head.

“I want you to imagine the first night here after your parents have died, but if you feel any pain let me know and I will make sure it stops.” Said Death and Eliana saw a little flash in her eyes.

Eliana closed her eyes and remembered the first night. “It was dark, way darker than any other night. The wind was blowing through the house and the shutters were slamming into the walls. I heard the whistle of the wind coming from the door and it was cold. Very cold. I heard voices, whispers like from outside but all around my head. Calling, screaming. Screaming to find someone who they called “The son or “The Key”. I remember nightmares. Demons crawling above me on the ceiling, shadows dancing on the walls and my own parents, dead as husks standing in front of this bed telling me to run.” Eliana shivered and teared up.

“Now I want you to open your eyes and with the corner of your left eye to look at the relief.” Said Death.

Eliana wiped the tears from her eyes and after a few breaths she did as Death asked. She was in shock. The relief was different, full of some writing and a female on top of the tree. “How is this possible? How did I not see it?”

“Ancient magic, Hell magic.” Said Death. “It is magic that makes you perceive as you know you should perceive it, you watched the same relief for the most of your life and when it was changed this magic was placed upon it to make you see it as you always have. The only thing that can beat this is your own soul's preservation instinct, but you have to be pushed to a limit. You did not see it during the nights here because your soul and eyes were occupied with other forces that you saw.”

“Who is that?” She said and pointed at the woman on top of the tree.

“That is Lilith. Mother of Demons. First woman, First wife of Adam. The one that rebelled, spoke aloud the name of the Almighty and became the Mother of all that is corrupted.” Said Death and held Eliana’s shoulders with her arm.

Eliana studied the relief even more. “These writings, they look like they were here for a long time. Longer than they should.”

“Why do you think so?” Asked Sariel and got up next to them.

“Because my father used to take care of this relief every day. Every day he would get a dry cloth and wiped the relief so not even a single dust was on it. He loved it. He would have noticed if something was up there, something like this.” Answered Eliana his question and instinctively held onto Death’s arm. Clenching her hand in hers.

Sariel wrinkled his face and thought for a second. Then his face went into shock.

“Eliana, did your parents change whatsoever before they died? Think, anything out of the ordinary? Any changes in behaviour or how they treated you?” He asked and looked at the crack in the wall and then to the corner where the walls met. His suspicion got stronger and he moved to the corner.

Eliana thought for a minute and then with confusion replied.

“Now that you mention it, there was something. You see, my parents loved each other very much and put that on display. But the last month before they died, they were more separated for some reason. It was almost like my mom tried to keep her distance from him. They also did not sleep that much, I have noticed that when I accidentally woke up in the middle of the night they were still downstairs, sitting by the fireplace. My mom was talking to my dad in a weird language and he was saying something back, I think it was the one that my dad tried to teach me once. It sounded like a poem of sorts. Also my dad changed the servants, all of them. Even those that have been here since my childhood.”

Sariel turned around and exchanged looks with Death. She knew what he meant by the look of horror on his face.

“We should go to get some air.” Said Death and motioned Eliana out of the room.

Eliana did not protest. This whole situation took a toll on her state and she felt like it was a good idea. “I can show you around the house. Maybe there will be something that might take your interest.”

“When you pass them, could you send Catherine, Sarah and Eva here. I would like them to take a look at this place.” Said Sariel and looked straight to Death’s face. She knew immediately what he meant. Now she was even more confused. How in the name of sanity she did not sense it. She out of all beings!

The two of them left the room leaving Sariel behind. Sariel stood in front of the relief and observed for the last time, he did not want to believe what he thought was the answer, but everything so far seemed like it was the only possible way. “The wall is newer than the rest of the room, it is not seen at first but it was built not so long ago. There is a space behind that relief and if behind it is what I think there is, how come that she does not feel it? How come that we don’t smell it? That is not possible. What in the hell is this place? Could it truly be what I think it is? Please, just not that…”

After a minute Catherine, Eve and Sarah entered the room.

“Did you find something?” Asked Sariel.

“There are some writings that should not be here but nothing alarming, some manuscripts that are way too high in education for this house and we have found traces of blood in the third room. Older blood. I asked Eliana when they went outside how long ago she was in the last room and she mentioned that it was a study room of some sorts and that her parents did not allow her to go there. There were a lot of hidden magical components, herbs and scripts about long forgotten Edenian rituals. According to what I saw her parents proclaimed themself and the “HaShomrim”. “The Sentinels, but of what or who, it did not say anywhere. I have gathered the most important things and the most dangerous and prepared them to be transported with us.” Said Sarah.

“Good, Sarah, could you take a look at this?” Said Sariel and pointed at the relief, but Sarah was already eyeing it with precision.

“I will transcribe this in no time, give me a second.” She said and started writing on a piece of a papyri that she already had in hands. As soon as she transcribed the first word she stopped. “I will place this into a protection, just in case.” Sariel nodded in appreciation as he saw her drawing a magic circle with latin words and symbols around the text.

“You wanted us to look at something? What is it? You have that serious face on you, what is it that you suspect?” Asked Catherine.

“Take a look at this wall. It seems new, not at first but when you look at the corners you can see it, it has a different pattern, just a little bit and the shade is also newer. Plus that crack over there points to the fact that there is something behind that wall. Some space.” He explained while pointing at different spots on the wall. “Plus this relief, it has a magic from hell on it so that Eliana did not see the writings and the head on the snake. Someone tried to hide something here.”

Catherine looked and confirmed his suspicions. Something was not right.

“I don’t think that I really see anything.” Said Eve with disappointment.

“You my dear are here, because I fear that I know what is behind this wall and will need to confirm what I think.” Said Sariel with a low tone, as if he was on a breaking point of his mental stability. He felt anger, so much anger, but also felt like he was about to burst into tears.

“I got it all. Plus some notes about the relief. What do you plan to do next?” Asked Sarah and packed the papyri into her satchel.

“Catherine, will you help me?” Asked Sariel and clenched his right fist. Catherine understood what he meant and put on gloves. Together they smashed their fists into the wall near the crack so it would get larger so they could grip it and tear it open. As soon as they did they noticed a foot behind the wall. Male foot, without a single sign of decomposition. They continued and the girls saw how Sariel shook his head, his suspicion was correct. The space behind the wall was a tomb. A tomb for Eliana’s parents.

The uncovered majority of the wall and saw that behind it were two people, male and female. Crucified on the same relief as they saw on the fake wall, but this was the original. No head on the snake, no writing. Just a bloodied pentagram with a name under it. The name of Lilith.

“This is why I called you Eva. I need confirmation that their souls are bound and by the looks of the symbols on their bodies, they are.”

The bodies they uncovered were completely naked and scarred all around. Symbols of binding and hellish symbols around the whole body. Eve came closer and examined the bodies.

“Correct. Their souls are not there. Also they are not decomposing but they have been dead for quite some time by the looks of it. Both of them have their throats cut, single cut, nothing really sharp as the skin is torn on several places. No signs of struggle, but the female, she is cut in a weird way. More brutal and slow. Like if she…” Just as she said she turned in horror back at Sariel and saw that he suspected all along.

“Sarah, the female, left breast just above the heart position. It is what I think it is, isn’t it?” He said and pointed at a symbol not carved into the chest of the female, but painted with blood. A triangle pointing downward in a circle and spikes all around the circle.

“Symbol of female possession.” Said Sarah and immediately realized what he meant.

“Eliana said that her parents were distant in the last month of their lives. That it was unusual, they used to talk long into the night downstairs in ancient language and the father sounded almost like reciting a poem. But it was not a poem, it was a protection spell of some sorts…” Said Sariel and wiped his face. “They knew that her mother was a target and that they were trying to get to her.
